Super Bowls are a rarity. We've got quite a few.
There are a few teams that have never been, Cleveland for example.
I read a while back that some guy thinks dynasties no longer exists. I think they do but these days it is not the same.
KC has one going on, though I doubt they can match the Patriots.

Now days, teams are more fluid. Players leave with Free Agency and you have to be good enough to replace them with great talent.
If you're smart you try to build your roster with a horizon of 2-4 years and try to catch the window of opportunity when it pops up.

Tomlin has a lot of wins and he did make the playoffs this year.
The problem is that the roster is not built good enough to stay in the ring and punch it out with KC and Buffalo.
I'd also say that this staff has grown a little stale.

Am I tired of winning? No. But I'd like to see it taken to the next level.

It depends what winning means to you I guess, to me winning is not collapsing every year and going one and done in the playoffs after taking advantage of a very favourable early schedule.

One and dones are acceptable fikrst and second time up after a rebuild, not every season.

After the loss to Jacksonville in the 2017 Divisional Playoffs their were several minority owners that wanted Tomlin canned.

Art II laughed at the notion. So here we are....And what has changed? Everyone but the common denominator.

Ray I concur. I have been enjoying watching football games in which I have no rooting interest. This isn't for everybody though.

I'm tired. To me until their is a regime change it will stay the same. Some like that. I don't...

And their are two constants in all of this. Common denominators. Art II and Tomlin.

That's what is meant by the "next level"
Currently we can't slug it out with KC and Buffalo.. they are blocking the path.
    We need to be better.

The fundamental definition of the insanity quote is “doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.” - Albert Einstein - Feels like a rinse and repeat cycle every da*n year.

See if the only problem with this organization was we can’t beat KC and Buffalo that would be another story. Our issues go way beyond that.

I think we will be adding NE back into that mix soon. If they land the right coach and put the pieces around Drake I think that kid is the next big sensation. Man he can play.

This thread made me finally think up a New Year`s Resolution.

I won`t say anymore nasty things about Tomlin if we beat the Rats Saturday night.

Who else here will sign up for this oath? Put it in writing, LOL.

True. With them, we just get a "little" excited when they start out of the gate semi-hot just to fall apart later in the... oh wait. ;);)

And we can't do that without much better coaching and a franchise QB. In the NFC the QB level required is lower in general. Teams can get it done with Hurts, Stafford, Goff, even Sam Darnold got a team to 14-3.

We've no hope of consitently competing with stone age schemes and outdated theories, "splash plays" LMAO, nothing more than lottery ticket football.

This is Tomlin's catch all excuse as to why we lose games, didn't get enough splash, didn't win the key downs etc

NO. We lost play by play, down by down, mistake by mikstake, lack of discipline too often, poor game management in general and MOST IMPORTANTLY BY FAR because we lost the majority of the 140 plays or so during a game.

This emphasis on splash, is just a way of glossing over the overall poor levels of coaching, scheme and game planning - it's self-delusional by MT et al and I think people are finally waking up to what utter nonsense "splash" etc really is.

Then he says "back to the lab" "there's going to be changes" - what happens? NOTHING!!!

Next week it's same gameplan, same plays, same players - same results.

They've no new ideas, it's the same thing they decided on in the off-season, this is who we are, and this is how we win, and i'll show you all i'm right.

    It's INSANITY.

I do think our coaching has gone stale. Austin's defense seems to lack creativity.
As a QB, Coach and sometimes journalist, I've seen the game evolve as have many here. I know the guy with his birthyear in his handle, 1856, saw Jim Thorpe play.
I don't think it is right to trash Tomlin so bad, the guy has produced many wins here as we could have been a perennial 4-13 team.
But I do think he's gone stale. Seems like the better teams dig up an OC or DC and ride their success for 2-3 years then move on.. (That really generic but in the zip code) And that keeps the system fresh.

I throw a caution flag out because there's a lot more to it than just Tomlin.

I'll throw out Detroit. Perennial losers. They have had legends play for them yet waste their careers....
I don't know what spark finally ignited but they have a top not organization starting with the arrangement of their front office. It is loaded with good football people.
The hiring of Ray Agnew and Brad Holmes has really clicked and it has flowed down from the front office to the field.
They bring in Dan Campbell, draft some really good talent, comb the Free Agent wire and get role players...
Bammo! You've got a really good team.
So the blame goes all around.

If Tomlin is not getting it done, our GM's have to make the tough call. They also have to have the plan to go forward.
They have to draft good talent. It's great to hit on Tier II players and be able to hit on the no-brainers (TJ) but they have to find the gems and/or also move on players that can bring big play capabilities (splash plays).
They have to find a coach who can run that machine and then they have to be on the same page to keep that machine fed the type players that pose threats to other teams.
    Our system is currently broken.
I don't know why they decided on the 3 loser QBs's we have. Russ did get us to 10 wins..so did Kenny Pickett. (7 of those wins).
The real brain bomb is the fact that they even gave Matt Canada the OC job and then stuck with him! There is little doubt in my mind he destroyed any promise of Picketts abilities as I see him playing well in Philly's system (I don't think he is a Franchise QB though)

This is the kind of stupid crap that Detroit once did.
Sheila Ford Hamp, I don't know how or why, must have gotten hit on the head and turned operations over to folks who know something and it is working.
I see the same thing happening in Washington. (Can add KC and Buffalo also)

I definitely agree there. That was blatantly obvious that the coach sucked. They will be back. Probably kicking themselves for winning that last game, they had the 1st pick in hand and already have a QB, they could have landed 2-3 players with a little luck.
