I agree with you on that. No way I would pay Darnold $40 million a yr! Don’t trust him. He is playing with a team that has 2 #1 wrs.

I think he’s had a new offensive coordinator every year. That’s a sure fire way to slow development. Im all for giving the guy a chance to improve. However, he can’t be plan a. Yes, he showed some improvement over what he did in Chicago, but that doesn’t mean he’s ready to start. Maybe working with Arth during the offseason will help considerably.

I just find it hard to believe he made it to this level with his lack of basic qb skills… no touch pass, always throwing heaters… no pocket presence, not sure if it’s true or not, difficulty in reading defenses.
In all fairness to Fields and our other qbs, the OL isn’t doing them any favors

Yeah the line hardly deserves all the blame here. When your qb is holding the ball for 3+ seconds bad things tend to happen. Earlier in the year Wilson wasn’t holding the ball, but then he started doing it again and the wheels have fallen off. Early in the game borrow was getting rid of the ball in 2.05 seconds. When a qb does that it makes a line look great. The defense simply can’t get there in time to do anything. Fortunately they made some adjustments and we started getting home. Of course the offense decided to phone it in for the majority of the game

I would let him test free agency first. I doubt he gets a serious offer.

There is no way a bring him back for the contract he expects.

GGuess you didn’t read or hear about the division between the defense and Russ that whole season and Russ pushing to throw more ? Yea nothing wrong with a defense and a running game it’s how Ben won his first one. But we can debate forever cause Russ isn’t even as good as he was then or close to it now. He isn’t the answer for the Steelers even short term cause he isn’t getting this team anywhere near a Super Bowl. So the point is either find a qb who can which this draft isn’t possible or let a cheaper stop gap qb like Fields try and see what he really is once and for all or let him fall flat and lose enough games to get a high enough pick in next years draft to pick a qb.

I personally do not dislike Russell at all. I have followed his career since he was at NC State but I just do not think he is an AFC North type QB! One because of his age and you also have to be a big strong QB in this division to survive. We need a QB that brings a toughness and size to take a beating, that a lot of QB’ s does not have! Even as big and strong as Big Ben was, he is going to live with permanent pain for spending his whole career in this division!

They're paying Wilson 1.2M a year and Fields 3.2M. How is that cheaper?

Some realistic free agent QB's that will be available in the off season are Jameis Winston, Jimmy Garrapalo, Cooper Rush, Gardner Minshew and Carson Wentz. None that will take you anywhere but will win the all important 9 games.

No, I didn't but, with that many superegos on the defense, I'm not surprised. Especially with Richard Sherman!

I highly doubt I will find myself wishing that. It wasn't just six games. The guy also had three years in Chicago. As down as I am on Wilson, I am certain this team would have missed the playoffs if they had stuck with Fields. I'm not fascinated with running quarterbacks the way you are.

Really? If they go with Fields next season and he doesn’t pan out You wouldnt have wished they found out what they had in him this season? Odd. To each their own. I’m not fascinated with old washed up QB’s the way you are I guess.

True, but Omar and company are not striking me as "Capologists"
And they haven't done much to rectify it.

In the real world (where I awoke) yes, not much will change.
I don't agree that they done too much right, when you do deep analysis, we've got pieces and those pieces are tier II. (Aside from TJ)
Our skill positions are filled with ne'er do wells. Our QB's all suck equally.
But in my dream world, I thought a rebuild of the coaching staff would go a long way if spearheaded by aggressive, competent GM drive.
But here we are. Maybe they get better as time moves on.

Let him walk. Would not mind him being a backup on the cheap. He might fetch quite a bit as backup, maybe be highest paid backup. Doubt anyone wants him for a starter, but there is a small chance.

I like the fatalism in your answer.

I say yes also, but not for exactly this reason. I don't like any of the big name free agents in Darnold or Cousins and I don't want the huge cap hit when they inevitably suck. Russ can suck for a much more reasonable price, plus he's older so we wouldn't be stuck with him for long.

No, because we already know he's not good enough. The guy has been proving it for four seasons in the NFL. If they really saw him the way you do, they would have stayed with him.

Here is the difference between our comments. You have a history of being fascinated with running quarterbacks. You made it clear that you very badly wanted them to draft Willis in 2022 and you are very upset that they didn't stick with Fields.

I was never thrilled with signing Wilson or trading for Fields. I thought Fields was a good acquisition as a backup when they had traded away Pickett, but that's it. My interest in playing Wilson over Fields was that the offense got better when he stepped in. His ability to hit the deep ball opened up the offense. It was mostly a matter of realizing that Fields isn't good. The Steelers seemed to agree. They trusted Wilson in a way they didn't trust Fields. Of course, he has faltered badly of late, though he has plenty of help. Moore has been horrible. Pickens missed three games and sucked Saturday night. That is just a killer given the team's piss-poor receiving corps. Austin disappeared Saturday night and Jefferson stinks. That doesn't excuse Wilson's failures in both two-minute drills. I still can't figure out how he didn't convert that quarterback sneak before the half. It is as if he dove instead of just driving his legs and pushing forward. We've been over the many ways he blew it on the final drive.

I rather have Mason back than these guys as a stopgap.

The first thing they need is a competent OC play caller. Otherwise, even if we traded for Darnold or kept Fields, it wouldn't matter one bit. What free agent, of any position, would like to play for this offense??

Not sure what that has to do with the price of tea in China, but ok. I'm onboard with the move on from Russ train, but I'm not ready to blame him for everything. Our coaching staff is weak schematically. Bo Nix would more than likely had the same success here as Wilson. Albeit his athleticism given his youth has helped him. So by that logic, Wilson's performance in Denver could even been seen in a brighter light.

No, he didn’t. You’re watching what Denver fans watched and still don’t get it. Look beyond stats.

I agree there is more than just the stats, but I also think there is more to what happened in Denver than Russ not being able to run a system. I'm also not sold on Bo Nix as some are. Maybe that is more my point than kinda sorta defending Russ.
