Why would they give up on Khan after only two years? What has Weidl done to deserve the GM job?

I agree, and I mentioned before that I'd be on the phone with the Jets about a swap for Garrett Wilson, who is rumored to want out bad. If we have to add a pick, so be it. He has his 4th year and 5th year option left. I'd throw in a 4th rd pick.

What do you mean what has he done? He’s the assistant GM, you think he just brings Khan coffee? He has nearly 25 years scouting experience and helped build a SB roster for the Eagles. I would do it in order to keep him here, personal preference. From what I have seen and read, I think he has a great understanding of the game and talent needed. Nothing against Khan, I’ve been a fan, just like Weidl better and he’s going to get GM offers this offseason. Don’t know how long he would be willing to pass that up, he did this year in order to stay here but that won’t last.

That doesn't mean he deserves Khan's job Weidl got interviews last offseason and returned.

Well in spirit of the thread, thats what I would do. I feel he is better than Khan and to let him get away would be making the same mistake as letting Flores go just because they had just hired Austin.

He got interviews, don’t know if he got offers. He’ll get more interviews this offseason.

As a GM I would do the following

    1. Fire Tomlin, Austin, and Smith
    2. Hire Ben Johnson. If not him, then I would consider Kubiak, Vrabel, or Flores. Minter from LAC would be interesting as well. If we go defensive minded HC, then we MUST go for a young offensive mind that has some talent at the OC position. High end coordinators a must.
    3. Preston Smith, Cole Holcomb become cap casualties.
    3. Russ, Dan Moore, and Najee walk with no contracts offered. Pickens extended. Take a run at Darnold if we have a shot, otherwise Fields extended. Herbig (G) extended.
    4. Sign Chris Godwin in FA, BJ Hill or DJ Jones signed to a short term contract, sign Byron Murphy or Carlton Davis to play CB opposite JPJ. Swing tackle signed via FA.
    5. Draft a DL in the first, Treyveon Henderson (or another RB) in the second, and grab another young WR OL or CB in the third. WR, OL, Safety, QB, and Edge can be later round picks.
    6. Build the locker room a bit. We need an emphasis on hiring and drafting/signing LEADERS. This team needs a bit more accountability as a whole. Cam wont be here forever and he seems to be the only true leader we have (outside of Queen and Elliott stepping up in this regard).

I would trade Tomlin in a heartbeat if we could get multiple first round picks for the guy from a team like the Jets that could be huge. We need a coach that is disciplined and runs a no nonsense ship where its Team first period end of story. That is my number one problem with Mike. The double standard of separate rules for separate players, accepting garbage behavior if the guy produces, the continuing lack of mental discipline exhibited by our players in many games, etc. Perhaps the my way or the highway won't work but that was the way with Noll, Cowher, Bill B, etc. Now I remember Mike Singletary tried that in SF and it didn't work but I would rather go down that way then running the ship the way we have and dealing with all the character BS issues we have had over the last 10-15 years and I include Ben in that as well. IF that is what Rooney wants and that's who calls the shots, then ensure the next head coach whomever that is will coach in that manner and hold the players accountable to that one standard which is Team first period. No players with Radio shows, blogs, webshows, etc during the season, its about the team and the goal of winning a Super Bowl. Your individual stats mean nothing, its about teams wins and what are you doing to add to that equation. I hated Ton Brady with a passion but that is why he and the patriots were so successful, it was the Jordan approach, win at all costs and how am I making myself better and my teammates better to achieve that goal of a championship. Do that and the money takes care of itself.

I don't think Khan should be on this list. He's done a phenomenal job with personnel and contracts.

It’s not a shot at Khan so much as I just think Weidl would be better.

I like the job Khan and Weidl have done with the exception of the WR position this year. Big fail there.

I would be shocked if any team would give up multiple number ones for Tomlin. But if we could find a sucker, I would make that trade in a heartbeat. Then send Ben Johnson a contract with the salary line blank, and tell him to fill it in.

    re-sign cook now.

holcomb, smith, leal, seumalo, cap casualties.

    sign kyle allen back.

lot's of CB's become free agents this year, get in the pile.

demarcus robinson may be a nice WR pickup.

pick up a guard in free agency.

i like the kid from notre dame. maybe 2nd rd.?

i don't draft a qb in the first but get one in the pipeline. maybe even the kid from houston if not the one from ND.

DL through the draft or a free agent minimum.

Good options. As for Pickens, the guy has a talent to make him a name that's remembered for decades. His problems are all mental and maturity related. The right coach can fix that. He doesn't need a friend, to becoddled or pampered, he needs strong leadership.

He's already on a team that makes a good showing every year without actually going anywhere. You're right. Why would you want to come here? Lol

From the head coach up positions, I think that Khan is the only one that's doing a bang-up job and deserves to be there.

And this will have to happen in 2026 draft when I think Steelers will select a QB. Trade MT if possible this year
and stock draft choices and hopefully have another good draft this year DL, CB, WR (2) OL.

    Tomlin has to go.

    Khan/Weidl axis I like.

Clear out of coaching. Only DS worth keeping. Go and get Ben Johnson.

Move on from Wilson, Seamalu, Moore, Holcomb, Harris.

I'm not rewarding Pickens. I don't see him ever being whnat we need him to be, that's who he is, every team knows he's a nutjob and will wind him up with it, we see it every week. I can't think of a WR we let go that went on to have a better career elsewhere, even Ju Ju yes he won a SB, but as player what is he? a warm body really. In general wehave let WR's walk and have ended up on top. Pickens gets 1 more year because we've no-one else, and a last shot at growing up (he won't).

Get Jones back to LT, he's had his ups and downs, but the last few weeks have been better. Don't spend a 1st on a guy then mis-manage him to this extent, but that's on Tomlin and his love affair with Dan Moore (of course Tomlin has to be proved right...)

We'll get Fautanu back and James Daniels - that's potentially a very good young line for someone who can coach...Jones, Daniels, Frazier, Mccormick, Fauntanu.

Draft got to look for Cam's replacement here, he's been team MVP this year IMO, but he's 35 now.

The seconday look better on paper, needs someone with a clue how to coach and scheme defense in 2025, not 2005...

QB - Go with Fields, and no I don't care if we miss the playoffs, this team needs to rebuild and find the next frnachise QB, because there's no hope for a SB until we have the guy.

I am on board with this, he can't be trusted to play every play, takes way too many plays off.

It needed to be blown up years ago but Rooney is a coward (and/or stupid). I'm with @Blast Furnace@Blast Furnace. I'd let Weidl run the show and fire everyone. If you can trade Tomlin, then do it. Ben Johnson is my new HC. He can fill out whatever O staff he wants. DC could be several people but I don't have a favorite at the moment.

We need a QB. This constant mediocracy **** and always drafting at #20 has caused problems. Still, there is talent here. Moore needs to GTFO and let the young guys grow on the OL with a new coach. Need DL, CB, and WR desperately. Najee gone. I'd need to see more film to know if it's coaching or the player but Minkah making > $20M might have to go because the hasn't made a play in two seasons. Honestly, it might be time to consider trading TJ, too. He's a HOF but he's getting older, costs a fortune, and unless this team miraculously finds a QB this offseason, they aren't winning anything in '25 either. And so on. It'll never happen though because Rooney sucks.
