We’ve been talking about going after Darnold but most think he ends up back with the Vikes and he probably will especially if they go anywhere in the playoffs.

What about trying to trade for JJ instead? The consensus is he is the real deal. What kind of package would you be willing to give up to get him.

In reality they probably both will be in Minnesota next season because all the Vikings need to do is franchise Darnold and hold onto JJ and see if this season was a mirage for Darnold, if he flops you let him go and roll to your top 10 pick.

I agree, they will retain both unless a premium price is paid. JJ is under a relatively inexpensive rookie contract, so they aren't hurting.

At this point in time, I see no way out of this.

As you wrote, the Vikings will probably keep both, so it is a moot point.

In not sure where you are getting this idea that the consensus on McCarthy is that he is the real deal. I haven’t seen that at all. I think he is another Pickett.

The irony is Pickett would almost certainly be starting again if he hadn’t been such an impatient hothead.

Have to wonder how much he is regretting running from adversity.

Better for us though that he did, he was never the answer.

I'm more inclined to think that the franchise cannot handle adversity.
They have had way more than their share of it, Bell, Brown, Pickens, DJ..... some others.

If the Vikes can clear the 42 million or so to tag Darnold it would be foolish not to do so, just as it would be foolish to trade JJ. Often the determining factor for a 1st round rookie is after the 3rd year, do we pick up the 5th year option or not, the window they are in now does not come along often, it's all there. JJ may indeed be the future and could possibly pick it up next year, but sitting in the shadows is not a bad option for him or the Vikes.

If I were the Vikes, I'd keep both. Se what Darnold is, and it gives JJ another year to develop with no pressure to carry the team. After next season make a choice.

Just trying to think of all options, word is that Ten is done with Levis. I'm not sure if his problems are correctable, I rarely see them play. But, sometimes just a change in scenery/culture can make the difference.

He's like Tomlin but at QB, he'll keep making the same mistakes and never learning from them. Reminds me a bit oif Ryan Leaf. He was a big risk at that spot and guess what it hasn't panned out.

When the season ends this team once again has no one under contract who is a QB, whoever we go with (Russ, Fields, ?) it might be worth a shot to bring him in on a very lowball trade offer, still 2 years left on his rookie deal and there are slim pickings out there. By lowball I mean just that, a pick that would likely be cut, that value is worth the risk, lol.

Levis is terrible he has a cannon for an arm but that is it. He can't read defenses, he makes mind boggling stupid mistakes and is a hot head that is always taking fits on the sideline. He lost his job to Mason Rudolph and the Titans announced that Levis wouldn't be playing anymore this year but Rudolph has been so bad that the Titans have no choice but to play Levis in the last game.

I doubt the Vikings trade McCarthy. They are in a good spot with Darnold starting and JJ waiting in the wings. With JJ being on a rookie deal it really isn't costing the Vikings anything to keep him.

I think the Steelers best option is to go with Fields for the next couple of seasons. His ability to run makes up for some of his shortcomings.

Moving up to take Levis was a real head scratcher but apparently that came from the top, Vrabel didnt want to do that.

Let Jim Harbaugh trade with the Vikings for JJ. Then, we trade with the Chargers for Herbert.

QB is going to be difficult to solve this offseason.
It's going to take some creative GM and an owner willing to take a risk. At this time, I am very negative on our GM situation.
I don't think they have any 'moxy' and they are like plain brown paper bags, no lines or words, nothing.

#1: Cam Ward - The guy has a great body of work but that exit at the bowl game looms large. Is he worth mortgaging a bunch of picks or players for?
#2 Shedeur Sanders - I do like him but his arm strength worries me.
#3: Jalen Milroe - this kid might actually be the best in the draft. He has a cannon arm and seems to deal with NFL caliper defenses. If you commit to him, you'd have to go with someone like a Kingsbury that will tailor the offense towards his development. I don't think Aurthur Smith is the guy.
After those 3, the talent drops like a rock off a cliff.

It's going to take some very aggressive action to go after 1 of those guys as there are several teams in way better position and you have to trade to a spot over them.
    I can't see this happening.
Currently I am thinking this bunch goes after Daniel 'Dime' Jones. I'm not selling it as a solution or even a good move, just what I expect.

    Dak Prescott.
Dak is on the outs in Dallas. He's not great by any means but maybe an option.

I left him out of my thoughts, well because he's a Cowboy and I don't even recognize the Cowboys as a NFL team.

I thought it was a good way to get you to see what McCarthy is. I think his upside is game manager who can step up on key drives late with the game on the line.

Doesn’t matter who is tossing the ball, this offense is going nowhere w/o a solid line and imaginative play calling. We still call plays like we have Pouncey, DeCastro, Villanueva anchoring the OL. Our OL leaks like a sieve and we call pass plays that take 3 seconds to develop

This isnt the year to sell the farm in order to draft a QB. I would much rather see the Steelers use a stop gap, than waste considerable draft assets on a player that is far from a sure thing. The only player that is even close to worth moving up for is Sanders. But like I said, he is far from a sure thing.

I would rather keep Fields for at least another year. Let's use our draft picks to add a legit receiver or two, continue building both lines, and bolster the secondary.
