These poorly designed sweep run plays and runs up the middle when the defense stacks the box need to stop. It’s just a rehashed version of the bubble screen. And they keep calling them, especially in first down.

Arthur Smith isn’t the guy. You don’t win in this league trying to build a power running game. The Ravens can do it just because they happen to have Henry who is a monster compared to our backs, but their offense is built around Jackson and he throws.

When Wilson took over, they were throwing and having success. Now they aren’t even trying. 400 yards against the bengals last time they played and they could only muster to call 6 pass plays in the first half?

Arthur Smith is a legit fraud. I hope he gets FedEx’d to another team this offseason so he can break another team’s offense.

The fraud is the person who hired Smith in the first place. How many garbage coordinators do we have to endure before the owners realize this? Look no further than the MT coaching tree to know what a fraud Tomlin is. Can anyone name a successful coordinator or HC who came up under Tomlin?

I posted this in the game thread, but because it's relevant....

I’m pretty sure Arthur Smith must be listening to Queen during every game.

I'm trying to figure out what it will take to get Mike Williams more targets; I don't think he's cooked yet.

Maybe the powers that be should consider having Van "movin' on up" Jefferson movin' on over to the sidelines more often.

Smith's playcalling has left left a lot to be desired of late, but I haven't given up on him yet. I don't know who was responsible for the 4th and 1 call to Warren at the end of the first half, but that was terrible. I like Warren, but he's not my top option in that kind of short-yardage, high-leverage position. Where was Fields there?

Back to Warren, Tomlin hinted at him being 'his guy' this week, but he starts Harris - who gets twice the carries - and when Harris is in blue tent with 5 minutes to go down five, they decide it was a good time to throw Patterson out there, who hasn't done much of anything outside of a few runs against Indianapolis three months ago, and who did little here but draw a holding penalty that nearly took them out of FG range.

Just more hot-mess coaching on display under Mike "that why I'm well-compensated" Tomlin.

Oh, and Pat Meyer needs to wished all the best in his future endeavors once the season ends as well.

It's not like Warren was doing much in the game but I agree he should be in the game over Patterson, Warren couldn't even pick up the 4th and 1 that's a play for Najee.

Serious question - really too late now, but was Patterson ever considered at WR, especially with our lack of depth there?

Great post! Had it not been for Arty, Matt Canada, Randy Fichtner, Todd Haley, etc....Mike Dumblin would have perhaps 6 or 7 Lombardi Trophies, IMHO! These guys have held him back, and kept him from being the greatest coach in NFL history!! It's just not fair for Dumblin to be saddled with all this scrub coaching around him!!! Time for our genius GM to get his sh!t together and get him some quality assistant coaches, it's BS that Dumblin has to put up with this crap every damn year!!!!

The Steelers are extinguishing the prime of Mike Dumblins analytical mind, too. He's not just a coach, he's a FOOTBALL SCIENTIST!!! His advanced coaching theories, his leadership, his kindness to animals & babies & bunny rabbits, etc. are the stuff of legends...Rooney needs to fork over some money to pay a coordinator that's conducive to Mikey T's skillset!!!!! Let's go baby, our head coach is being CHEATED!!!!!! Had it not been for Dumblin's brilliant mind, Artie Smith would only have 1 or 2 wins this year...Let's Go, Baby, get some damn good assistant coaches here...wtf are we doing??? Go Dumblin, baby, he's a GD hero!!!!! Rah---RAH----Rah---RAH!!!!!!

Defenses have to respect the passing game. So we should come out throwing more, even on first down to get those defenders to back off a bit. Then you start running. I dont know if this is Smiths idea or Tomlins to come out trying to run first. Doesnt work if the defense doesnt respect your passing game.

Steelers are only going to hire assistants that MT can control. As HC he has control over all assistants, but he is only going to hire coaches that will yield to his will and not have their own ideas.

Agree we need the pass to set the run up because our O-Line is not even mid! Problem is you have to give Wilson time and our line is seemingly allowing little time again for our QB to throw. I cannot for the life of me figure out how we cannot execute multiple quick slant routes or successful screens to slow pass rushes down.

Maybe Russ's size and lack of vision has something to do with it?

I think that Tomlin is the only "great" coach, who when people talk about him, they never bring up his "coaching tree". He literally doesn't even have a twig.

Yup, not a very well coached team, to say the least. Just look at the Lions tonight, marched to a field goal before the 1st half ended,, with precision routes in 18 seconds, with 1 timeout. A very well coached team!!!!

I don't think it's just play calls though. If you watch our offense, they never seem to be birds of a feather. On run plays, everything seems to always collapse. On pass plays, everything seems seat of the pants other than the occasional crosser route through the middle and Wilson always seems to be throwing to random people rather than to someone on a designed play. Frequently, our offense plays more like a preseason offense with guys that have never played together before.

Yep. Other QBs seem to have a clear first read that is often open - 1 - 2 - 3 fire. Wilson seems to stand back there trying to figure out who to throw to and who might be open. If his first or second read is often covered, that is a scheme/talent issue. If they are not, that is a Wilson issue.

Different co-ordinators, same offense one constant. Same on defense, it's beyond debate now.

This is all on meddlin' Mike and his stone age football.

His ego has completely taken over the organization.

I'll bet diamonds if we could talk to the ex co-odinators and coaches they'd tell us Tomlin was controlling everything.

Same thing with every area of fail with this team for last deacde.

    ONE CONSTANT.

Our screens take too long to develop, which obviously allows the D to close before the receiver can turn upfield.

For heaven's sake, I wish Smith would watch film from other offenses (like KC) - the WR screens should happen AS the receiver is turning up field. Put them in motion, as they break forward the pass should already be on it's way, not 2-3 seconds after they've stopped and turned. Failure from the start.

His ego has completely taken over the organization. - This is what I believe as well, I fail to believe that with all the turnover in our coaching staff and still seeing the same results, this has to be the case.
