This all makes too much common sense.
You do know that common sense will not be tolerated on this message board?

Well, apparently Kevin Colbert, Mike Tomlin, Todd Haley and Randy Fichtner have NO common sense since they are wasting their time out wining and dining potential QB draftees. :hmmm:

Only Ben knows for sure. I really believe that there is a good chance Ben's career comes to an end quicker than most, given his propensity to hold on to the football and take unnecessary hits. How many more times can his aorta be "threatened" and it not be a major concern? Maybe the Steelers have a concern that Ben's career could end at a moment's notice given his wreckless (or tough depending on how you look at it) style of play and his tendency to go sandlot. I just hope he fully commits to Haley's system this season which I believe will give him many more productive years.

If the Steelers don't draft a qb then they can always bring Batch back he will still be available, no need to re-sign him now.

Don't see it happening, they are just feeling him out, the only way I see them spending a draft pick on a QB is if this kid impresses the heck out of them and given the comments made here in this thread, doesn't seem likely. I'm sure he isn't the only reason they made the trip down there. I know you think Ben has like a week left until he retires but I bet you he plays until he is 35 at least. I keep putting it out there that Farve, Elway and several others played until late 30's and at present, Ben hasn't been hit as much as them. By the time he gets to around 35 he will have reached them. Yeah I know, everyone is different and Ben may not make it that long but this is football and you can say that about anyone at any given moment. I should probably leave Farve off that list since he is a freak and never even missed a game until his last season but there were about 5 or 6 other guys who were hit a ton on that list, all more then Ben has so far, so I think it's reasonable to presume Ben will go for another 4 seasons minimum.

Pfft. A week nothing. I don't think the guy will make it until next Wednesday! lol

Seriously, TE. Ben has missed time each of the last several seasons. He ain't no Brett Favre. The guy almost had a broken rib puncture his aorta last year. I know it looked like a freak injury and in a way it was, but Ben held onto the ball longer than he should have on that play and took a devastating sack that could have been fatal. Had he thrown the ball away when he realized the play wasn't there he could have avoided the hit. I know it's football and you're going to be hit, but you've got to admit that Ben has taken a few sacks over the years that really leaves one scratching his head about the necessity of the sack. He's taken sacks that's taken us out of field goal range and scoring opportunities. He's also made some big plays but those have been fewer and further in between over the last couple of years. I hope Ben can learn how to play smarter, adapt to Haley's system and play in good health for the next 8 years. Unfortunately, I don't have the faith that you do that he'll be able to do that. I really believe there is a possibility his career may come to a premature end.

I was waiting for something like that :lolol:

Well the funny thing about the sack that he got hurt on is that it didn't look like anything, I think that was a complete fluke. And yes, Ben can hold onto it too long but a sack is a sack and guys like Dave Krieg (494) and Randall Cunningham (484) and Phil Simms (477) all have more then Ben does now (344). If Ben limits his sacks to about 30 a year, that's 5 more seasons until he gets to as many as those guys. Elway was sacked 516 times.

Now here's a thought I'm surprised you have't brought up yet that could end Bens time in Pittsburgh even sooner then sacks might, I don't think the Rooneys like Ben, complete guess on my part, but I think if they could replace Ben tomorrow with a stud QB they would. Given the type of people the Rooneys are, I have a gut feeling that what Ben did in Georgia repulsed them, added to the mix is the other accusation which they probably think if Ben behaved this way in Georgia then it's not so hard to believe he behaved badly with the other one. Because even know I don't believe Ben raped that girl, his behavior outlined in that police report isn't something I feel would sit well with the Rooneys and a lot of other people judging from this message board. Because even know Ben is doing all the right things now, which I am sure the Rooneys are pleased about, they'll never be able to get past what he did, not old school people like them. Don't forget, according to Shefter, they would have traded him to the Rams for their number 1.

    Just a hunch

Cheddars is down there on Clinton Hwy. It's always hard to get a table there. They probably knew each other's life stories before they were seated. LOL. There's a lot of people I go to church with that love to eat there but I don't see the big deal about it. But I guess if I had known Tomlin was gonna be there I would have fallen over myself to go. LOL.

I didn't know about that one on Kingston Pk. I asked a guy at work today about Bray who knows a lot of people at the University and is really involved down there and he said, and this is the PG version by the way, "You might be surprised. Arian Foster didn't do crap while he was here and look at him now." But I just said "yeah but Foster is not a qb and also he seems to have a brain." Someone else came and started talking to him so I didn't get to ask him too much but hopefully I will see him tomorrow when he has more time to chat. I was leaving and he was getting there so it was really quick. But I'd like to ask him what he thinks of Bray's maturity level. He did acknowledge that Bray can really sling it but what NFL qb can't ya know?

i don't think it's a matter of if ben can tough it out and make it to 35, i just wonder if he wants to play that long and keep taking the beating. he has a son now and he may choose to walk in later life then roll through it in a wheelchair. 13-14 years is a long career in the NFL. it's not like he'll need the money.

if they are looking at jones and bray, you're not going to pick them as a later rounder. they are 3rd and at the latest 4th rounders. they will be 2-3-4 years from being considered if ben chose to retire by then. if they haven't got to where we think they should be, i'd expect a top choice somewhere along the way. this would be about the earliest they would start this process.

Ya know, I really am not a fan of ye olde steak house. It is a Knoxville icon, but there are better steaks in town and the environment is just a little too... what's the word I'm looking for... trailer-park like. For the money, it isn't that great, IMO. Cheddars has good food for a good price and is a good family environment. BTW, there is one down in Maryville as well. It isn't exactly fine dining though and if I wanted to send a prospect a message that I was interested, Cheddars is probably not how I might try and send that message.

i figured they let tyler pick. for the record, i was just informed by a family member, who was at pro day working as a host, tyler and hunter looked great. bartholomew was also impressive. he ran well and caught the ball well. he is a fullback.

Hey Knox since I'm a big Steak fan you gotta tell me where I can get a better one! You can't just make a statement like that and leave a man hanging. LOL. Have you tried Ruth Chris or ever how you say it? I've heard it's good but you need to be kinda rich to eat there. If we do wind up drafting Bray and he winds up not being good I will forever boycott Cheddars! LOL! And just for clarification are they drafting him to be groomed as Ben's replacement?

THAT is scary, TE, because I have had the exact same thought with regard to the Rooneys' feelings about Ben since "the incident" in GA. I believe they view it as an embarrassment to the organization. In fact, he embarrassed the organization in two straight off-seasons. It was almost like there were three sure things in the off- season: free agency, the draft, and Ben being accused of rape. I don't think the Rooneys have forgotten that. I hope and believe Ben has put that kind of behavior behind him and I really think the Rooneys feel that he has. But as the saying goes, as human beings we can forgive, but the hard part is forgetting.

Best steak I have ever eaten in my life was at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse in Columbia, SC. Went to the Masters a few years ago and got the opportunity to eat there. I was with some friends and only had to pay for myself though. Couldn't take the whole family there unless I wanted to drop about $500 - lol!

For the record, I like Cheddars too. Very good food at a reasonable price.

Hey BFT, Ruth's Chris is a good steak but real spendy. We like Connors and Chop House for a good steak in town. Also, Calhouns has some of the best smoked prime rib I've ever had. I think Calhouns on the river down by Loudon dam is the best Calhouns around. Flemings is good too, but again, pretty pricey. All that said, none of them can compete with the steak we cook in our own backyards on the ole charcoal grill. I'm sure every one of us fancies ourselves the grillmaster and in our own backyards, no one can compete with us in our element!
