Not when most places said they'd get a 7th! If you expected anything more you set yourself up for diappointment.

Hell yeah, I'll take that, draft picks are gold, many of good players have come from the 6th round.

For those of you worried we'll get nothing out of this, last year we used a 6th to move up in th 4th and land a sliding prospect the FO liked. Now we can do that and still have a 6th to use on the next Antonio Brown.

Can't trade comp picks, but still, good point. Allows us to trade our original pick and still have the comp pick in the 6th round.

I would say that Wallace should definitely fetch a 3rd rounder unless he gets hurt for an extended amount of time. Although... I'm pretty surprised that the Chargers got nothing for Vincent Jackson.

They can be offset by getting other UFAs. Did they land any big free agents last offseason?

Yes. Robert Meachem was a big dollar signing - and bust so far. They also signed Jarrett Johnson, Atari Bigby and a handful of lesser talents.

Looks like a good deal to me. We trade him away and receive a 6th round pick and are able to acquire him again. Not a William Gay fan but we basically got a 6th rd pick for free.

I doubt very much Wallace fetches us a 3rd. I'm thinking 4th. I don't know the exact formula, but season ending awards are factored in, and I doubt Wallace makes the pro-bowl. Plus with any free agents we sign, that cancels things out a bit. I don't see a 3rd coming our way. I think 4th is going to be best case scenario

I think a 3rd is a high probability. My understanding is that the average annual salary of the new contract is the single biggest factor. Wallace signed for $12 mil/year. KC and Tennessee just got 3rd rounders for Brandon Carr and Cortland Finnegan, neither of whom made the Pro Bowl this season, nor am I aware of any other season ending awards. They both signed for $10 mil/year. I think Wallace is a near lock to get us a 3rd rounder. I think Lewis is on the 4th/5th round fringe.

Wallace was the crown jewel of the free agency market, and we haven't (and won't) sign any big names to offset that. I think there's no way that we don't get a 3rd for him.

It depends. Signings that you make offset lost free agents. I know that you cannot get comp picks for released players, however I don't know if signing players that are released by other teams counts against you like signing free agents does. Gay and Spaeth were released, so I am assuming they don't count against us.

I believe snaps taken is also a factor, and Wallace figures to be on the field for 95% of his team's snaps. Lewis figures to be out there for 100%. Both good signs. What I'm really hoping is that the Cards signed Mendy to be the starter, not part of a rotation. I know his salary is low, but if he starts all season that will make an impact.

The moment Gay and Sparth where released by their teams, didnt they become free agents? If so, I dont see how that wouldnt count as free agents the Steelers have signed.

Yes. Gay and Spaeth certainly count against us as far as guys we've brought in but c'mon. Both of those guys are scrubs, nowhere near Wallace's level. Houston, Ten, and KC got 3rds...

    Houston
    lost Mario Williams
signed QB John Beck, RB Justin Forsett, ILB Bradie James, CB Alan Ball, P Donnie Jones.

    Tennessee
    lost Cortland Finnegan
signed G Steve Hutchinson, DE Kamerion Wimbley, DT Leger Douzable.

    Kansas City
    lost Brandon Carr
signed QB Brady Quinn, RB Peyton Hillis, TE Kevin Boss, OT Eric Winston, DE/DT Ropati Pitoitua, CB Stanford Routt.

I think Mario Williams is a better FA than Mike Wallace is but I think Mike is probably a bigger loss than Finnegan or Carr. I think both Tennessee and Kansas City's additions were bigger than any signins we've made so far. Hutchinson, Wimbley, Hillis, and Routt were all solid signings at the time.

If Gay ends up starting 16 games because someone gets hurt than maybe you're right, but as of now I think we get a 3.
