It seems our defense is way too vanilla. The D line pretty much is just "beat your man", with little creativity. The Steel Curtain had lots of loops and stunts to get their stars in advantageous positions. Lebeau's Blitzburgh was designed to confuse O-lines and QBs. This D line seems to do the same thing every time - TJ and Highsmith or Herbig rush the edges and the interior guys do what they can against their man. I think we have great talent on this line, but offenses have figured it out and double team Watt and if the right edge rusher doesn't beat their man, the QB has all day to pick apart the secondary. And the secondary seems to be schemed in mostly prevent, hoping the QB gets pressured to make a mistake. With enough time, which they often have, even an average QB can find a man who is pretty open.

Love to see a bit more confusion and creativity on D, but probably too late in the season to implement that.

the head of our defense needs cut off. austin. we need a DC. he does some things OK but plays scared. it also starts at the top. as i heard the pre kick-off reporter on the sideline say after talking to MT. she said MT didn't even mention the ravens this week, it was only about the steelers and what they do. well one size does not fit all. he and austin play it the same way. teams get on to what WE do and adjust. WE do not. the old we do what we do. get's us into these bad situations, especially when we are down a player or two. next man up can't always do what the player before can and if he can't they overcompensate to cover that up leaving somewhere else open. and it's open until that first player gets back. too many people out of position on plays.

I am not sure it would matter who they get for DC, MT wouldn't
give them leeway to apply their thoughts.

Watched Wilson at linebacker a lot yesterday. He didn't play enough and I believe right now he is our best linebacker with the best reactions and hustles the most. On one play he blitz Lamar, Lamar threw a long pass, forgot who, he ran back to the reception and helped the cornerback assist in the tackle. All other linebackers were not even close to hustling or even moving like Wilson.

He just didn't play enough and sure think he would be better then Queens covering Andrews.

I really like our LB crew. All bring something to the table but agree 41 needs to be on the field more he is a baller.

Agree on the field more, especially on passing downs.

After giving up 34 points to the Baltimore #Ravens on Saturday, the #Steelers defense has fallen all the way from sixth in scoring to sixth in scoring.

I think this, in part, explains some of the late season collapses the last few years. What worked early in the season doesn’t anymore, as there is enough tape for opponents to figure out and exploit weaknesses. Not enough new ideas late in the season.

I long for something like Inigo Montoya’s “but I am not left handed” or Rocky’s hand switching and see some new ideas.

That last sentence alone warrants the “winner” rating! Perfect similes of what I wanna see

Do they count the pick six as points allowed on defense?

In the post-game presser he said he didn't micromanage his coaching staff.

My sense is that the more complex blitzing schemes take longer to develop. As rules have softened, secondary defenders can't be as physical with receivers at the snap. Receivers come open sooner, and QBs get rid of the ball before the complex pressure gets to them.
