Our offense was bad on Sunday. The call against Austin was a bs call that hurt us. The call of hitting the eagles long snapper was BS as well. Those two calls were both game changing calls. Take those calls away and we still probably lose though, because our offense was a dumpster fire much of the game

Steelers fans, apparently, are soft. After every loss, this board is filled with whiners and criers wanting to blow the whole thing up. Fire Tomlin. Trade TJ. Cam is too old to resign. Minkah sucks Get rid of Pickens. Pick up this loser, pick up that loser. Resign Rudolph.
It's like middle school football parents. Too many arm chair coaches with 20/20 hindsight who conveniently forget what they said only a week ago.
We're in the playoffs with three weeks to go, instead of waiting until the 4th quarter of the week 18 8:30 game to see if we make it.

Sorry, Mikey, you were at the top of the list when it comes to whiners. When I said "armchair coaches with 20/20 hindsight", you were at the top of the list. Sometimes I actually think you're Benny under another name.

yes - it is hard when you are critic and a visionary and are tired of being one and done in the playoffs.

it is hard when you like winning and are surround by those that are comfortable with average. (i think of you and others....you were at the top of the list)

that is how it is here.....

Playing devil's advocate, that roughness call on the hit on Fields was weak. Eagles' player was already in the process of tackling him before he even started sliding. If I'm on the other side I'm booing that too. In my opinion they need to modify that rule somehow. They expect defenders to defy physics. QB shouldn't just be allowed to slide at the last second. Should be on the QB to get down sooner if he wants to protect himself, otherwise all bets are off.

That was the one bad one against them to two of three against us though.

it was TERRIBLE - piss poor call.

and this whole slide BS - play 2 hand touch with QB's in 2025. Kazee could have leveled Hurts, he thought he was going to slide and Hurts dodged and ran another 15 yards.

    its all pansy.

I say once the QB runs past the line of scrimmage he should lose any special protection. They always point to the fact that the defender is hitting them in the head and neck after they slide. Well, yeah, where do you think they're going to get hit when the head goes down at the last second to the level their hips were when the defender lined them up!!? It's the only part of their body that's still elevated.

I don't even really blame the refs on the field. That's how they are told to call it, and will be downgraded if they don't.

It just sucks that this is now the way the NFL will be from here on. You can even go watch some of the hits on Brady of all guys back in early 2000's where he rolls out and gets leveled up by the head with no penalty, and even he bounced right up and didn't complain because he knew he had left the pocket and was fair game. Mahomes would be whining until the next week if he got hit like that.

Those of us who got to watch real football in the 70's to the 90's are just dinosaur/barbarians I guess. God I miss it so bad

edit: I guess it was a little more than "up by the head" if you watch this

This. In fact, I feel in the first half, the Eagles were the intimidated ones. I truly don't think they knew how physical we'd be coming into the game. Hurts truly looked relieved coming in for the half.

Agree, and this is one of the fundamental issues I have with officiating crews. Make the calls when you have to - when they are blatant. But borderline calls - especially when that single call can affect the outcome of the game - sorry, they should keep the flag in their pocket. Perhaps set a tone early in the game by calling them, but late in the 4th when a team is attempting a comeback, or is defending against one? I think that sets the wrong tone - that the refs have control of the outcome.

And TJ owned Lane Johnson on some plays, the OL did okay the receivers weren't getting open was the real problem.

They're not even that much better. I mentioned this before the game, for some reason the Philly defensive scheme gives Pittsburgh problems and it doesn't matter who the QB or the Coordinator or Oline coach is!

Defense was basically on the field for the entire 3rd quarter, absolutely gassed! But yet they were still in the game at that point!

Problem is the Coordinator came in with what he wanted to do and just stayed with it too long.

The overturn on a replay assist on Pat's catch got them too. I thought there should have been a replay assist on one of the Eagles catches as well, but it didn't come.

So far we've seen replay assist screw the Steelers multiple times this year. Including calling a penalty that wasn't called on the field after the ball had been marked for play!

Maybe raise a hand, like a fair catch signal, as they start the slide.

    This.

We were down bad. People are clinging to the fumble as some sort of crutch to say "we coulda won the game" but that's not realistic IMO. 34-13 would have been a much more accurate reflection of the game in fact. Now then, a team that can score form inside the 20, and that's a different game, but they can't as they have shown endless times this season.

29th in the NFL in the RZ and people are kidding themselves we're a serious contender?

Nope, what we are is a much improved 2nd tier team that could win a home playoff game if we win the division.

    Teams have won with less.
This team had a chance to give the defense a rest and was only down 7 at that point. They were already in Boz makable FG range.

They lost to the Texans who had less than 100 yards of offense in 2009. Any given Sunday, just a few breaks either way.

You are thinking of 2002 Maddox Steelers. Steelers did not play the Texans in 2009.... but they did fold like a cheap tent, 2nd half of the season with a Super Bowl caliber roster.

True, but still teams have won with absolute garbage days on offense.

They weren't totally out matched on defense until that drive after the turnover. You could tell they were gassed after that and Philly just took advantage. Couple that with the fact that they only got 1 other possession because of it...

Any given sunday - sure. But in all likelyhood being 29th in RZ offense won't get it done against elite teams.
