Hey pal, he's got #4 potential!

I agree about the money. Reminds me of the Larry Foote signing. In both cases there couldn't possibly have been serious competition for their services from other teams, and yet we sign a 3 year deal for over a million/per. These guys headed out into the world, it didn't go well, and they are desperate to climb back into their warm and cozy beds. We should have them by the balls. They are lucky to be coming back to a good job where they are comfortable. So why are we acting like we're the desperate ones? I read that the way it's structured, it'll be easy to cut him after year 1, but if we're just going to use him as a #4/#5 CB and special teamer, we might as well keep him. So I don't get why all the money. We're in no position to be overpaying a beloved veteran, and if we were, Gay would not be it.

The way our team piles up the injuries, I wouldn't be surprised to see him starting at some point this year, even with Lewis around. But we don't have to pay him like that already happened.

Gay knows or D very well and was always talked about as being one of our smarter defenders....With that being said does anyone think if Colbert plans to re-sign Lewis that Gay could possibly be moved to Safety? Smart guy,Good tackler knows our scheme really well....Just a thought
If we do in fact re sign Lewis i think signing Gay takes DB's off our draft board and let's us concentrate on other needs.
A quick look at the roster we would have Ike,Lewis,Allen,Gay,Brown,King,Vandyke,Victorian.plus a few other names i didn't know Greene,Ventrone and Mcfadden....I think with Lewis that's a pretty strong 8....

I like this signing, hope we did not give up much. This will give a a great Dime package. hopefully with Lewis on board ( if I hear is true) we will have a great D-backfield.

If its true he's 15th in yards allowed then look at it this way. He was a starter on a bad team. He played at total of 1034 snaps, had 57 tackles and 2 int's. He only gave up ONE TD and a total of 726 yds, this isn't bad. QBs throwing his way had a combined QB rating of 80.0- again this is quite good. He is a guy who is always getting better, will never be a revis or Lewis but his game is still getting better, he's re-uniting with the Steelers in a system he knows and with a very good coach in Lake and here's the best part. He'll be our nickel at best AND push Brown and Allen to up THEIR game.

Its a win win situation that comes at a small price.

    Cajun-

edit: Let's remember that Lewis in 12' had 943 snaps, 71 tackles and ZERO ints & gave up 3 TDs. Ya'll still hate the William Gay signing at a cheap price to play nickel at best?

I understand where you're coming from but TTF and Snack capture it well for me. Too much money for "a nickel at best".

Here is the first passing touchdown against Arizona in week 1. Play starts at 1:23. I'll let you watch Willie and evaluate yourselves.

I'll grant you that the Arizona secondary looked a bit confused and scattered on that play, but if you're trying to imply that Gay had Rice in man coverage and got toasted, it didn't look that way to me at all. First of all, it looked like they were playing zone. Secondly, from the way Gay was playing up until the pass was released, it looked to me like he was going with the TE who was breaking to the outside in his zone, and Rice had been passed off to the inside defender. We'll never know for sure who was responsible for what, but it didn't look like Gay had responsibility for Rice in the middle of the field - or at least he didn't think he did. That's my take.

it was evident you don't sign immediately aplayer like gay with a sb when you already have 3 good cbs , you wait in camp and if brown or van dike are not improving you sign someone for a vet minumum , probably gay could have been still around

First of all, yikes. Are you sure you really hated saying that? Because it looks like you went through some amount of trouble.

Second of all, what you said was a little vague. I thought it was clear that signing Gay was some amount of insurance in case they couldn't keep Lewis. But I didn't and still don't think that they got Gay so that they wouldn't have to sign Lewis. I don't think that was a choice they made. Who says we "let Lewis walk"? They were going to let him see what was out there and make an offer. For all we know, we could have offered more than New Orleans did. Apparently at least one other team did.

Of course, I hate that what I thought originally was right, since it costed us a good player / prospect. They offered Gay a deal, and didn't offer K Lewis one. https://twitter.com/KeenanLewis23/status/312402871075368960

No offense intended. Just wanted to make a point here: When I said that, I was some kind of bullied... (and remembered me of that this thread:http://thesteelersfans.com/forums/s...we-making-this-board-unwelcome-to-new-posters ) so NO, I don't hate to say I told you so.
It's not the first time that someone post what he thinks that a FO move means, and some others try to make fun of their thoughts.

Hopefully, someone recognizes that this, indeed, has become an hostile environment for some posters, not only the new ones

You'll get no argument from me there. I just wish the hostility was limited to football talk, and not control-freak message board placement drama.

I was thinking about that last week, before free agency.
Wallace definitely can't be part of it anymore.
I'm not sure if keeping Ward... or move it to something else.

Any other idea? (I appreciate your effort HugeSnack, but... can't we sing a big FA or rookie whose last name begins with W?)

and, after being a Steelers fan for so long, that kind of FA pickups is what we call "steelers offseason entertainment and excitement".

    I can understand inferring this...

but this is quite a bit extreme to infer from simply by my posting the vid, don't you think?
