    Ok...since everyone wants to know....

    A) Yes I am a Buckeye...and Beanie was brilliant in college.

    B) He might be the same type of back...but thats like saying Walter Payton and Mendenhall were the same kind of back. Maybe Beanie is indeed a "has been" but Redman and Dwyer are both "never were" Beanie has the pedigree...Dwyer has the promise, and Redman had the board hype.

    C) I have no idea of Beanie is washed up...but I do know that just a few years ago....most where praying the Steelers took him....now he is available... and I really doubt he "forgot" how to be a RB.....If all 3 were healthy...I would take Beanie, then Dwyer, then Redman....but with the pounding that a between the tackles runner takes...all 3 would be useful.....add in a Kenjon Barner type...you have a pretty well stacked RB stable.

Wells, Dwyer, Barner (or other scat back type).....and then either Batch or Redman.....whoever makes the cut.

That's all you needed to say.

So . . . Maurice Clarett was a beast in college. Did he not forget how to be a good RB?

Couple years ago Beanie had a decent O line and he rushed for 1000 yes and 10TDs? If he is healthy and the O line is healthy I truly think he could post those numbers again . I may be the minority but for the price it may work.......let me put on my helmet before you start throwing stuff......

Count me among the people that thinks if we need to go RB by committee, then the type we need to add should more speed than power, not another Dwyer/Redman. And if we are going to have a 1 man RB with Dwyer/Redman as backups, then I'm more open to a speed/power hybrid, but that guy should be better than Beanie Wells. I hope we hit on one in the draft at some point.

But for the right price, what the hell.

    ...

Yes...Yes he did....because of his time off and hanging with rap stars. Sometimes you can take the boy out of the hood, but not the hood out of the boy. I would bring in JaMarcus Russell too....we have had worse camp arms...and its not like it was JUST the Raiders who thought he was the best QB in that draft....it was pretty much the consensus.....Sometimes guys are just "RAIDERS" or "BROWNS" or "BENGALS" and what they truly need is coaching and a true winning football environment. They get paid all that cash and are losing every week...and everyone around them is still happy and cashing their checks...and they buy into "This is what the NFL is"

But I see you point...no RB should get a chance because Clarett blew his.

Actually he has...but just once in 5 years....of course since Wells has been in the league...Troy has only had one as well....CUT THE BUM.....again...its a reason I like Wells....still young....still has tread on the tires....and IF he can stay healthy...and IF he can come close to what the LEAGUE thought he would be when he entered the draft....if could be a Bettis like addition.....IF he doesn't work out....well he won't work out anymore than most of the guys the Steelers have brought in lately.

This morning in the Arizona Republic the Cardinals stated the reason they cut Wells: Quote] The Cardinals had serious concerns if wells right knee would hold up this season; plus they felt he under achieved, given his draft status: and fair or not the rap against wells is that all systems had to be go for him to play on Sunday. End Quote:

Now, my question about Wells is this, if the Cards team surgeons had doubts about his knee being able to hold up, what makes the steelers think it will???

JaMarcus Russell? Yikes. Big arm, empty head, and an addiction to purple drank? Clarett is sounding better and better.

I like the Kenjon Barner idea though. I think that's the direction we need to be moving towards if we're looking to add any running backs.

I understand the allegiance we have to guys from our alma mater, but I think the general consensus is that Wells needs to be put out to pasture.

Nah, I think the general consensus is that it's risky to take him on and expect him to be your starting running back, mostly due to his injury history. If he can get healthy he can be a good back, but that's a big "if". On top of all that, he mirrors the backs we already have, so we might not be gaining as much as we would with a different back of equal talent but different playing style.

Even with 2 of his 5 seasons in the league injury filled....he has more yards than both Redman and Dwyer combined in their 5 years combined.

My OSU HOMERISM has nothing to do with this or any other mock I have ever made. I rarely have Buckeyes taken in my mock...probably less than 1 per year.

This year though..its Reid Fragel....kid will be a monster down the road. I would bring him in as the backup RT this year....run him out as the 3rd TE from time to time mostly to block...but have two or 3 plays down where the former TE runs a short route.

Bad as in: "the general consensus is that Wells needs to be put out to pasture."

You're right. Coming out of OSU, we all would have been thrilled to have him. He couldn't stay healthy. He's done.

I disagree on Redman and Dwyer Hack. I think those two can be effective. If the price is right on the Bean man, ok. As long as someone good doesn't have to leave.

How do you disagree? LOL I think from what you said we do agree.......I think Redman and Dwyer can be effective...I think both can be above average running backs for more carries than they are below average running backs.....I feel if healthy...which it appears he is not...Beanie would be an above average RB more consistently than both of them combined. I actually like Dwyer a lot...and I do like Redman contrary to what many believe.....but I am not sure either is a "star" in waiting.....More Verron Haynes and Mewelde Moore than Jerome Bettis or Willie Parker......and that is not a bad thing...both those guys helped win a lot of football games.
