Ha! My thoughts EXACTLY after reading that. Started laughing when I scrolled down and read your post as I was thinking it nearly verbatim.

Yes, to continue that line of thinking . . . I think Keenan Lewis MIGHT (purely speculation) be one of those 'bad lockerroom' guys. I met him in person and he seemed a bit . . . thuggish?

With theories about his characters aside, I'll repeat that I never saw what was so special about him on the field that made him a highly-coveted free agent.

Cortez Allen, on the other hand, REALLY impressed me in the late Cincinnati game. If he can put in a full season like that, and Gay can give us what he gave us in '11, we may be fine at the corners. It'd be nice if Curtis Brown would ever step up though. Aside from the occassional special teams highlight, he's given us next to zip.

Nobody even heard of Welker until he came to the Patriots. On paper you would never in a million years think Welker with his size etc would put up numbers as well as he has. He also benefited by another receiver on the team named Randy Moss for 4 years who demanded double coverage most times. By the time Moss left in 2010 they had Gronkowski and Hernandez who will kill you if you let them. He is also, and it pains me to say this, was playing with the best QB in the league in my opinion.

Welker benefits from other great players around him. As I believe Brown has done when Wallace was at his best. However we now have no 4.3 receiver that defenses have to worry about and our TE's while much more involved last year are no where near the level of Gronks, Hernandez, Gonzalez etc. And who is our RB this year Dwyer? Please. A RB from the draft? Maybe but won't make impact this year. I just think that we will finally see if Brown is as good as we think he is this year with no benefit from other players around him. He needs to step up and be that great player that defenses are scared of to make other players on the team better.

Sorry I think I'm rambling. Not even sure what I'm trying to say anymore LOL!

Losing Lewis and signing Gay just downgraded an already sorry secondary!

I agree 100% with you. I was dumbfounded when they brought Gay back. (obviously they did it for insurance not knowing what Lewis was doing) I have only missed a handful of games in about 20 years and when he was on the team I have never seen someone burnt more then toast in all my life. When the opposing QB went back and threw a bomb you KNEW it was going towards Gay and the WR would be 5 yards behind him. I'd love to be wrong and he has a lot to prove but I can almost guarantee I'll be screaming at Gay getting burnt on a nice quiet Sunday afternoon this year!

Gay was so bad in Arizona last year that Horton was pulling him out of games because he couldnt cover a water boy let alone a receiver, and Horton was his DB coach here for years so you know he knew how bad gay can implode in a game, what are we thinking in re-signing this bum?

are you serious????? did you see any of our games last season????...... we led the league in pass defense with no help at all from the pass rush... a sorry secondary doesn't accomplish that.... cortez allen probably should've won the starting job last season.. this just means that the door is open for him..... gay will be fine as a nickel back, and who knows what we'll get in the draft......... breath a little

Relax, guys. You're both wrong. Our secondary wasn't sorry last year, but losing Lewis means it will definitely be worse this year. I like Allen, I thought he played well, and I hope he gets better, but he did not outplay Lewis last year.

With Ike/Allen/Gay/Brown our secondary is still a respectable unit, but it is taking a big hit by losing Lewis. If you like Allen so much, you should know that, since now he'll be replaced by William Gay any time we're in nickel, which his a lot. That's a downgrade.
