That always seems to happen. Never does the guy end up in the NFC with a ****ty team, it always seems its in our own division with something to prove.

 

Wilson is going to be resigned. He likes pittsburgh and he's not going to get a-lot of big money interest elsewhere, not at his age.

fields will bolt for a starting gig in Tennessee or maybe Indianapolis. Hell get an opportunity to start in a place like that.

yeah, again, people talk about fields and his huge upside. Running? Certainly isn't passing. Maybe he can develop somewhere else under some Qb guru like a Bill Walsh type (good luck)

I think it was always FAIR MARKET. he was not giving any discounts. in fact, it hurt us late in his career.

not sure, but this is different, in that - Russ is not just 'plug and play' at this point in his career. He won't get Top 5 QB dollar. Maybe Top 10 avg dollar - whatever that is......we will see. If we lose 4 (or 3) of 5 down the stretch, and are 1 and done in Jan, the whole negotiation is different....

 

Wilson is a nice stop gap, but is not the long term solution. Fields is good as gone and I can't blame him.

Mason’s overall stats and last season here are better than Fiekds I believe and the best Mason could get is $3MM as a backup

 

With the right coaching and system he could get starter money. I could see Vegas, Tennessee, NY Jets, Gaints as fits. One of those teams won’t get their QB in the draft. What Qb in free agency will be higher than Fields next year?

I don't think so. I think he wants another WR to take some of the double team heat off of him so he can produce. There is an X account that is pretty well known for being George Pickens' burner account (his account with a fake name so he can speak with anonymity) and there are multiple tweets of him asking for them to trade for or "get a #2 alongside 14".

Pickens has some behavioral problems, but none of them stem from not caring about winning. Really, nearly all of his problems have flared up in losses. I don't think he'd cry at all if we drafted a WR in round 1. He wants to produce and get paid, and having a quality #2 next to him will only open the field up for him to get more catches/yards/TD's. Personally, I'd still pay Pickens. He's too good to just let go. The only way I don't is if we are 100% sure that we can't keep his attitude mostly bottled up. As long as Wilson is around and playing reasonably well, I think there's a good shot that GP stays happy and engaged.

Totally. It is so hard to replace players of that caliber. I understand there's a tipping point where GP becomes more of a problem than an asset, but I don't think we've reached that point yet. He's a true top 10 player at his position. Even if we draft a WR in round 1, our WR room is worse without him (and its already bad because he's the only truly reliable option we have). The chances that a 1st round WR is as good as GP is still pretty low.

We HAVE to try. Pay him a good deal that is easy enough to get out of if he crashes out. Most high end WR's are divas or problems in some manner. If we want to have one, we have to just figure out how to make that relationship work.

If nobody else wanted him for a 6th round pick why would they now pay him starter money

I doubt he would even accept a contract extension from the Steelers without being a FA

 

He obviously has talent. It also is clear Chicago didn’t know how to develop him. They have struggled to develop Caleb Williams a supposedly generational talent. Like what other middling Qb’s have done in the league who flourished when in the right system. He throws an accurate ball and obviously he is highly athletic. I’m not saying he would be a superstar but a starting QB in this league with the right system with someone who knows how to utilize his talents, yes.
