Steelers Defense

So the terrible D had 3 sacks, and two ints, and only gave up 7 points untill the last 7 minutes of the game, and the Browns were going for it on every 4th down. They should be ashamed at running this Defense out there.

 

They have been solid for the most part this year at home...The game vs Dallas was the exception.Need to perform better on the road.Huge test next week in Philly

As I have written before, we have very conservative coordinators, play not to lose as opposed to playing to win.

 

Against every defense except the Steelers

Happy to see we blitz more yesterday and it showed up. Maybe the coaches are listening to us. Winston was fidgety in the pocket.

 

They aren't a terrible defense, but they were bad in the previous two games.

 

They still backed off at odd moments, such as the fourth-and-three on the Browns' fourth quarter touchdown drive. They attacked Winston earlier in the series and it was effective, then let him sit back there and get comfortable on fourth down. I'm glad they are letting Queen blitz a little more lately. He's very good at it.

 

Some of the biggest plays against the D came on blitzes. I know for a fact on their td drive .....two huge plays came on a blitz. I think some people say things without really knowing, or seeing when we actually blitz, or not.

I thought Queen played well yesterday he was all over the field.

 

Possibly but overall they blitz a lot more then then the last time we played the Browns including the 1st passing play. I think blitzing more helped the Steelers in the long run. By the way I'm always watching if we send 4 guys on pass plays or with an extra guy and send 5. With blitzing it should always be a disguise design defense that makes the QB think your going to blitz or actually do blitz and hurries the throw.

Philly may smoke us, in the 2nd half.

i think this is the week where the offense grinds to a halt, as genius Tomlin and Smith incessantly try to run Najee into a brick wall, that they forget we have TE's (this kid you know, #80?) and we miss PICKENS. a lot of 3 and outs, defense will get winded.

take Philly to cover the 5, we just never win there

IF they come out and ATTACK, like vs. CINCY, maybe we hang in there.......maybe.

And yet 2 of the biggest plays against us came on a blitz.
As Ben, Brady, and P. Manning said many times.....I hope they blitz.

 

I'll wait and see if Pickens actually doesn't play. It is going to have to be a similar game plan as the Browns. Get turnovers, hold them to FG's, and hope we score TD's when we actually move the ball. This past week was a rough offensive performance, but we scored TD's on the two real sustained drives we had so we actually ended up putting up points. If we start giving up TD's to Philly, then we will lose. But I think we can win a game in a similar manner to the Ravens game. Great defense, ugly offense, but do enough to win.

Pickens makes this passing offense go. If our running game doesn't get going we will be sluggish... but I think we can gameplan a decent offensive performance. From there its all about not letting Saquon and Hurts beat us.

 

we won this time when we bitzed more and lost when we didn't blitz the last time along with our other 2 loses that we didn't blitz. what part of this that you don't understand.

 

It always depend against which QB you play....To blitz against Peyton Manning was such a killer because he was throwing so quickly but it can work against many good QB....Of course you can't do it in every play,it will not work but on some occasion,it can work...I prefer a blitz in big occasion that being too soft on coverage

Spags who is a four time champion as DC and who is the current DC of the chiefs,always keep his best blitz package in big moment and it work!

 

One thing they need to improve is their fourth down defense.The Browns were 7-8 this year on fourth down vs us...The eagles HC love to go on fourth down like crazy sometimes!

 

LoL. The part that's hard to understand is.....You are incorrect. We have blitzed in every game we have played. We have not played one game this year We haven't blitzed.

 

True but in the first half of the season,the steelers had the lowest Blitz rate % in the NFL at like 17%...I don't know how much higher this is now,I am sure this is higher but in the first half they did not blitz a lot

I don't ask to being a blitz happy team but this is important to be unpredicable on defense

 

I was replying to what he said . He said we didn't blitz in the loses.....which is totally wrong.
it also doesn't change the fact that on one of the TD drives we gave up in the last game.....the two biggest plays came off a blitz.

 

True but no strategy work 100% of the time....We need to look at the odds if the steelers are good or not when they blitz but I don't have the answer right now.

 

My fear is two things. If the blitz gets picked up, and I .....Myself ....I don't have faith in the CBs. I believe we are two short of being awesome

 

Yeah and unless you have Brian Flores or Todd Bowles as DC,I don't think being blitz happy all the time can work in the long run....But in some occasion,it can be a good strategy,like maybe it could work vs Jalen Hurts since he has big time struggle against the blitz happy of Tampa Bay in his career and the eagles o-line is maybe the best in the NFL
