Someone tell me who they think is the best Defense in the league, or Your top5 ranking of them, and I bet I can pick them apart....just like everyone is trying for some reason to pick our D apart.
No team is going to shut down every team on Defense anymore, and I find it surprising that most of the people complaining about the D....are the ones that never want to draft Defense.

I pushed back because you wrote that the Steelers' defense was good against the Bengals. No, it wasn't. Good defenses don't give up 31 points. Good defenses don't collapse and nearly blow a 17-point lead in the fourth quarter. The Bengals didn't just tear through the Steelers' defense for two touchdowns, they did it very quickly. Only some fantastic clutch plays by the Steelers' offense and a really stupid mistake by the Bengals bailed the defense out.

Now if you want to argue that the Steelers played well as a team in that game, that would be reasonable. The offense was dominant most of the day. The defense wasn't good, but they did make three huge plays. They did enough to beat a dangerous team on the road despite brutal officiating that screwed them over repeatedly. That was a good win. I can both enjoy it and acknowledge that the defense did not play well and needs to get its collective act together for the remaining games.

 

I was with you in wanting Mitchell in the first round this year, but I don't think the defense is above fair criticism. They weren't good against the Browns. They weren't good against the Bengals. They need to be better the rest of the way. Hopefully, getting Highsmith back will help.

Reminded me of the great Dan Fouts. Air Coryell was great but their D was a bend don't break one and they never made it to a AFCCG or SB because of it. I think Fouts was first HOF QB to never have made it to a Championship game.

I use Fouts all the time as a great QB that could not advance due to POOR defenses. Marino too, for years.....

Ben HAD great Defenses when LeBeau was D coordinator. Things changed around 2012. And then we started losing more and more in the playoffs.

Ben was part of the problem for sure, so were the defenses, and so was the coaching.

 

And there it is.

I'm sorry, but a defense that gave up 31 points and became completely helpless in the final 10 minutes of the game was not good that day. It's okay to admit the defense has had some bad days this season. They were bad against the Browns the week before. They were also bad in the games against the Colts and Cowboys. Overall, they have been good this season, but they have had some stinkers and that was one of them.

 

Give it up already and move on.

They made it to the AFCCG against the Bengals. Charger fan STILL claim they were robbed because they shouldn't have been made to play in weather that cold. I love to point out that the Bengals played in the same conditions!

 

Granted, that was one reason. You could also count on Fouts to throw in INT in the end zone in a crucial moment, then yell at his teammates!

They went to 2 back to back AFCCG's. but never further. Sonny Jurgeson was elected to the HOF having never went to a SB or I believe a Champ. game. Looking at the HOF QB kist, there are not many without rings, or at least getting to a place they might have got one. Fouts and Moon are the two i remember most, simply because i was around, lol. They were pretty damn good.
