They did not get too conservative on the 3rd, and 21. No D coach in their right mind calls man here, or press in a tight game. Especially against Burrow, and His weapons. You play a zone, and keep everything in front of You, hope Your 3, or 4 that you send make it to the Qb, and make a tackle before the sticks. Just because the players didn't execute, doesn't make it a bad call.

There are mixed concepts they can use rather than back off and let Burrow have all day to pick them apart, so yes, they got too conservative.

 

Repetition is a valid rhetorical strategy, especially so when parts of your audience are in denial.

Keep in mind he was moved back to free safety this year, which reduces his splash plays. He’s also not getting any younger. He has taken a few bad angles this year but he is certainly not sandbagging until contract time.

 

Mahomes is 3-0 vs the Steelers counting playoff game, and has put up 36+ points each time.
All I hear is how the Steelers 'own' Lamar Jackson, who is 1-4 against them. With loses of 1, 2 and 3 pts.

They gave up a garbage TD late. So what. The Bengals have a very good offense they are going to put up points. They’ve proven that this year.

 

It is not accurate to call that a garbage touchdown. They scored with 2:39 remaining in the game, plenty of time to get the ball back if multiple Bengals on defense hadn't blown contain on Fields on third down. If they stop that play, Burrow gets the ball back with over a minute remaining to drive for the winning touchdown.

It isn't just that they gave up a late score. They allowed it far too quickly. letting the Bengals go 64 yards in only 1:14 even though they had no time-outs. That was a massive defensive failure.
