Seems news is leaking that the FO hasn't made an offer for Lewis, and may let him walk due to our financial crisis? I did not see this at all as I truly thought he would be back. I thought the FO had a plan to keep him. Losing Lewis is a killer!

I think the plan all along was to let him test the market before making him an offer. It's a risky proposition but probably the right strategy. I just hope that the recent influx of quality CBs in the market waters Lewis's value down a little.

hope it pays off, but Lewis ( seems like someone posted this before) had some of the best numbers for YPC last year? I thought after his first season or so he was awful, but man, he has caught on, and the league probably saw it too. Imagine him in Cleveland with Joe H on the opposite side? Scary

Exactly...its been said for months that this will be the case with a majority of FAs as it just about always is.

I bet he's gone and I'm blame Colbert and Co. We draft Lewis and Wallace to be our future and we let them walk, but keep all these over the hill players. Steelers in for some tough times.

I was just answered back by Aditi Kinkhabwala from what I asked earlier. I asked if there was any chance we could keep Lewis her reply was "Unlikely; Gay a hedge/backup plan. Gonna see what market offers, then see about competing for him"

Doesnt look too good to me boys and girls???

so you would overpay for a wr and a cb just because we drafted them? i have said it before. i am not conviced that lewis is all that good. he had a good year in his contract yr. to many players play until they get paid. wallace had a shot until he pulled his holdout last year and then didnt play nowhere near the level of a $12 million wr.

I don't want to overpay, but I hate losing our players. Our drafts have been crap lately and when you lose the few guys that you did hit on, it hurts.

There is also speculation that Lewis may be a good "system" CB but if you force him into predominately man-to-man he could be the next Bryant McFadden.

yeah it sucks, but i would rather have brown that wallace. i am not sure that cortez isnt better than lewis. someone said lewis would bet 7 or 8 million. no way is he worth that. imo, front office is making the right decisions.

This has been a possibility all along. Once I saw Gay's contract numbers, the potential became a little more clear.

The Browns haven't expressed interest in him, yet.

Gay is a great pick up for a nickle guy.HOWEVER, if he is our starting CB next season we might as well start cutting all the $$ this yr

he looked pretty dang good in man last year. Dude was by far a better man CB than anyone we had or have. Taylor is almost 33 and Lewis is what, 26 ? Terrible to see him walk.

I think this is the first year in my life that I've seen men get their NFL scoops from women. "Well, Mary Kay said . . . "

NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. Just an observation.

I mean, we had the Phyllis George eye candy in the 70s . . . In the 80s we started seeing Linda Cohn and Robin Roberts on Sportscenter . . . In the 90s the female sideline reporters became a staple . . . Pretty soon Inside the NFL will start off with, "I'm Pam, I'm Cindy, I'm Deborah, and THIS . . . is Inside the NFL!"

Not for nothing, but women doing play-by-play for college football games on ESPN . . . I can't stand it.

However, any Yanks fan will tell ya their color guy (gal) for the radio broadcasts with John Sterling, Suzyn Waldman, does a pretty solid job.

I'm not saying it would be a good thing, but some are saying he may not have the same success in another system. Hope we don't have to find out.

I'll just reiterate my personal belief (that I know has been shared by others on this board), 2 opinions:

1.) I trust our organization to do the right thing regarding Keenan Lewis. They've seen him in practice, in the locker room, on the field, and on film a hell of a lot more than we have. I think they know what they have (or don't have) with Keenan. And, it's not just Keenan, they've also seen . . .

2.) Cortez Allen might be ready to step right in and give us the same, or more, production as Keenan did at a discount price. Bring in Gay as a solid backup/subpackage guy and there 'ya go.

*Bonus opinion (you're welcome): I've also yet to see all the hype with Keenan Lewis. I'd put him in the 'very good/not great' category at this point. Unfortunately, he wants 'great/damn great' money.

It's not over till it's over.

When I see for sure that he's signed elsewhere, then I'll move on.

I saw a article where it said the Steelers are very high on Cortez Allen and would let Lewis walk. For what it's worth.

I was really thinking we would sign lewis this year before FA and with the development of Cortez Allen looking promising, that Ike would be cut next year due to our cap situation. Lewis would be the new #1 and Allen #2. But we will be in a world of hurt if we still have to cut Ike next year and have Allen as the new #1 and who would be #2? Gay?

Yep, and you're earlier comment is also very true. Colbert knows what we have in Lewis. He also said he'll let Lewis test the market to determine his value so we'll be able to sign him and he'll be happy knowing the got what he's worth. If he thinks he's the 2nd best CB in the league then that's the money he'll want but if other teams sign several other CBs first and he's offered less by other teams he'll know where he stands.

Problem is the Browns have 40 million to spend and if they overpay for him he'll be gone. We'll re-sign him as long as no-one offers him STUPID money like what the eagles did with Asomugha. We can't overpay for him guys, he's good but he's not Revis.

If the new guy in Cleveland is as smart as everyone says he is, he won't over spend, especially on a CB. I've been listening to the Revis discussions all day and they are saying that over spending on him is even crazy and he's the best in the league. The thought process being, you just don't tie up that much money in a CB.
