The ones clamoring for Fields and was not on board when the starter Wilson was ready to take his spot are all giddy now.

Using Fields, the Back Up, very sparingly i'm on board with. Not every game. Not every time they get into the red zone. Only in certain cases.

Could have cost the game with him not recognizing where to slide for the 1st. And why slide? Good thing Najee and the O Line got the 1st.

Its the element of surprise. Not a steady diet.

I get that...wasn't trying to say it's exactly the same, just the point of knowing what's coming. They bring in sub-packages all the time, this could be easily implemented and a better option than Russ sneaking.

He is also a great team player,no matter the situation.

Need to play him in some situation since he can be a asset in situation football that the steelers have major struggle in some game

That team made a big leap because Thigpen got healthy, the receiving corps was excellent and deep, the line was fantastic in pass protection and O’Donnell had a career year. Slash was part of it, too, but that was far from the primary reason that offense was successful.

You make excellent points. Another one that is a concern for me is Fields fumbling the ball under center. With that being said I think it is worth it to sprinkle him in there on occasion with Russ and at times without Russ. I think you really limit the passing with him so he doesn’t try to be a hero. One or two designed passes and if they aren’t open then just tuck it and run.

Would love to see plays with him and Russ and Warren in there. You can do a flare out pass to him and have Warren or one of the TE’s run a flare out to the flat and he can throw it to them or run for it depending on how the defense covers it. I think they could really be creative with some short yardage plays with Fields and Russ in there together. You toss the ball out to Fields a couple times and eventually he is going to draw the linebackers up. He could throw a deep crosser to the middle of the field or a go ball to Pickens. Heck the threat of him just flaring out wide to receive a pass will draw the linebackers up and Wilson could hit a crosser over the middle.

If we get ahead by two scores in the Cleeland game I would test some of these concepts out with Fields and Russ. Keep in mind Fields is pretty accurate when it is an easy read and the wr is open.

He is arguable the best athlete on the team. It is crazy to waste that talent sitting on the sidelines. Who would you rather have out there as an 11th man - Van Jefferson or Justin Fields?

there is always a first time. I don’t think you implement Fields in place of Russ alot in the red zone maybe a couple times a game. I think on third or fourth and one when it is a QB sneak or run you almost always use him. My big ask is getting them on the Field together. I love that idea. Would rather have him out there instead of Jefferson or Skowrenski.

I disagree with you here. A QB sneak or run up the middle is something everyone knows is coming. I would much rather have Fields doing QB sneaks than Russ. He is bigger, faster and why risk Russ getting injured. Plus he could fake it and pitch it out to the RB. Russ will never be a threat as a runner on a QB sneak.

If it is a couple times a game in the red zone I don’t think this will happen. If he has a defined role in short yardage I don’t think either will have a problem with it.

Yeah that was bad. I think he has the talent to be coached up in that area though. Russ likes him because I legit believe Russ has issues seeing guys in the middle of the field do to his height. Washington however is easy to spot.

Gotta agree with STD.... Steelers/Smith can't go crazy with Fields packages. We need Russell Wilson at QB in the red zone.

The only other team that runs with 2 QBs are the Saints (Taysom Hill)... and how are they doing this year? If it was so great... the Saints would have won a Super Bowl with Brees/Hill combo before Brees retired.

By this logic,2004 Roethlisberger was not a great rookie season because he did not win the super bowl

Feel like using Taysom Hill is the least of their problems and doesn't correlate to their current record.

Again, I'm not advocating for a 2 QB system in large percentages, but in some situational moments its a big weapon IMO. Other than being too cautious and sliding, the plays were great this past weekend with Fields.

He didn't even have to take a hit. Just dive forward instead of sliding.

Wilson has tried a few with the Steelers and doesn't look great doing it. I don't mind putting Fields in when the sneak is an option, though sometimes Fields has problems taking snaps under center.

Hell P. Manning, and His Brother both talked about how this was a bad thing one night on their Monday night show. They discussed exactly what I said.....that it pressures both Qbs then to do things they shouldn't, and to take chances they shouldn't...., but I guess....Me, You, P. Manning, E. Manning , and all the other SB Winning HCs, that didn't do it when they won a SB are wrong. LoL

Wait ...what does that have to do with anything??? There have been 100s of great rookie seasons that hasn't won a SB that year. There have been No...none..zero .....zilch....SBs won while using the Qb carousel package. I think it's a bad Idea, the Mannings have talked about it being a bad Idea before....for the exact reason I have. You are forcing whichever Qb you have in the red zone to do something....even if it's not there.....instead of just taking what they are giving you. I honestly can't believe anyone that has played is behind this.
Just like if Fields was playing....I wouldn't want Russell Wilson packages.....because then they would always be in Fields mind, and He would force things. It's human nature.

Didn't look great against the ravens. I do believe he has 2 QB sneaks one for a TD and one for a 1st down.

It's not a problem on the surface....it's a subconscious problem. Think about it honestly. If you knew that if You didn't score a Td in the redzone....then someone else would take your spot there, and the guy that takes his spot knows that if He doesn't score....they will not allow him to have those packages....now think about this.....you don't think subconsciously they will both be taking chances they shouldn't. Sometimes there isn't anything there,,but they both will start forcing things when they shouldn't. Don't think of them as a video game character....think of them as what they are....humans....now.... put yourself in their shoes. There is a reason this has never worked to win SBs.
