Ravens defense was predicated on keeping two safeties high and everyone in tight to the line. They jammed and played tight banking on the front seven to apply pressure. It allows them to support the run while they are also mucking up the passing routes. They played like they practiced and it wasn't until the late 3rd when Smith started to crack their defense with big doses of screen passes and TE throws to guys who couldn't match Washington's size. I wish they would have settled one just a few of the personnel packages instead of throwing guys out there that aren't a threat. Waste of time with those packages. They could have put Austin on a go route and Pickens on the same side on a deep crossing route from the slot while using a TE on a short cross that forces the Ravens to choose but they didn't really try it.

yes - Ravens went to traditional cover 2, which they had not been playing much of all season long.

    buuuuutttttt......

we see cover 2 week in and week out in the NFL, Russ (and AS) has seen it his WHOLE CAREER. They ought to know how to attack cover 2. No TD's was just pathetic, IMO.

it was not until Roquan went out that we had some success, in the 4th q with consistent movement

    oh well.

Ok fair enough but it wasn’t horribly under thrown. My question to you would be … Would Pickens or Williams have caught the same ball ?

There has been a lot left out of the playbook this year and its irksome. The quick slant, hitting the TE on a seam route, taking advantage of inexperienced defensive backs, using Heyward as a lead blocker(he's getting better but there is a huge room for improvement), putting in the smurf lineup against a physical team. In in answer @S.T.D@S.T.D post there were times yesterday that Wilson took bad sacks where if he is younger and more mobile the red seas parted right in front of him and he pulled a Bad Ben imitation. Lots of stuff to work on.

OMG. People think this is Madden. Take a player....automatically adjust to all Your calls, hand signs, and your schemes . I was actually surprised He even was in the 1st game last week. Out of all the Wrs trades that came before Him....how much are they all doing . I'm not in anyway saying He will be good, but give it a minute.

I do....some guys need time. This is not saying He will be good, but I wouldn't give up on him just yet.
I believe he has doubled his production from last year. LoL

It was the Fields package vs not using it. This was one of those games where they could have used both of them. Wilson's vet presence and touch and Fields athletic ability to tuck it run.

Until Mike Williams gets fully ingrained in the offense then the Steelers have no choice but to keep putting Austin out on the field. Van Jefferson is even worse and Scotty Miller sits on the bench behind these 2 so he must show zilch at practice. After Pickens the rest of the WR group are as bad as any WR room in the NFL.

That seemed to be a running theme for Wilson against the Ravens, I recall at least 4 passes by him that were badly underthrown. They still got the W though, that's all that really counts.

Hell I’m still waiting for Roman Wilson after all the talk this year. Should have known he’s a Michigan grad I would have thought Devon Bush would have ended that pipeline with this team. I’ve not given up on Mike Williams yet, big body receivers have a role on any team. Imagine a red zone offense that has Pickens, Williams and Washington with Fields at QB, might just improve our red zone efficiency.

agreed. he did a bit better of checking down in the 2nd half. Russ really struggled in the first half. Run 2-3 guys short crossing routes, hit the quick pop passes to the TE's. The he sat in that pocket way too long and we all know he is immobile at this point.

i don't know how a guy of his years is confused w cover 2. both and and Arthur see this in their sleep.

Najee in the I-formation too was the wrong set up vs. the Rats. Warren is the better option, as it showed in the 2nd half. and like you said, when we did, with the wrong approach. they had their safeties back and we still lacked success in running.

We played into the Ravens strength - running at them!

I'm not surprised. Tomlin takes time to break in players. Also wilson likes to make sure there is chemistry and a good throw before he throws.
