Would Fields be willing to be another Slash?

I think if we could implement him like we did with Kordell years ago or like the Saints do with Taysum Hill it would really add a significant iteration to this offense. I don’t know what he would be like as a receiver but he has the athletic ability and speed and size.

We lack that running back type of receiver like a Jamar Chase or Malik Neighbors who can produce a ton of yards after catch. We don’t have that guy that can run a crossing pattern and take it to the house. For as fast as Austin is he doesn’t always seem to create separation for whatever reason and he is to slight break tackles and produce YAC.

I would love to see us put Fields in the backfield as a RB along with Najee or Warren with Russ in there. Put him in in short yardage RPO situations or the red zone at QB or the Wildcat. Obviously there is risk to Fields and the team if he gets injured so I’m not sure they or Fields would be willing to do this.

My fear is if teams start taking away the moon ball and perimeter game we are going to need other guys to step up over the middle. My other fear is can Russ actually see these guys over the middle of the field? Perhaps thats why Washington is an attractive option because he is visible.

I think the Steelers are really going to need to develop the screen moving forward if teams are going to play two high safety against us. We had some nice chunk plays the last few weeks in the screen game and dump offs in the flat. Could you imagine dumping the ball off to Fields in the flat or to him on a shallow crossing route.

The problem is he is our number two not our number three like Stewart was back in the day.

I think we need to draft a Qb in rd 1 in 25 or 26. And no more running Qb’s. They are more often than not limited in their passing skills.

let Fields test the FA market in the offseason.

for this season we can use him in occasional short yardage situations. Hes also got to be more aware of where the first down marker is.

Kordell was also an excellent receiver and tough as nails. Don't recall him getting injured either as a QB, runner or receiver until maybe later in his career. It was his QB decision making, especially at critical times, that did him in. I'd have no problem using Fields in a similar Swiss Army Knife capacity.

Fields is a much better QB than Slash. I would really like to see him get some more playing time inside the 10 yard line. Russell does not like to tuck the ball and run, and I also think Russell's height is a problem at the goal line.

That being said, I am also nervous if Justin Fields has to take a snap from under center. When Justin came in in the 4th QTR for those 2 running plays I was a little nervous about there being a bad exchange from center. I think all of Justin's plays yesterday were from the shotgun.

I think using Kordell as slash was a bad idea and it didn’t work well

    Why do it again

That word "willing" gets me. I'm paying you big time dollars I'm not asking, I'm telling. If your ego gets hurt use those millions to see a psychiatrist.

Partially disagree...can't just draft one in round 1 just to draft one. If the players warrants the selection fine, but can't reach. Be a waste of time and draft capital.

I mean Pittsburgh is scouting some of the QBs for 2025. That said, I seriously doubt that the team drafts one unless it is someone like Milroe, Nussmeier or *gulp* Beck. Beyond those three?! I don't see too many other options available. If anything, I'd rather have the Steelers nab an IDL in Round one for Benton is the only player under 25 that has shown any sort of improvement. Leal has too... then he got injured and Loudermilk is just depth.

2026, between me and you, that is when Pittsburgh will go out and nab "the guy". Whomever that is, I'd suspect that is when the team will make the pick. 2025 has too many holes to think about a QB even though QB is a big question mark. Now, that said, I would sign Russ to at least two more seasons after 2024; 2025 being at least one more potential run + the guy being on the roster to ready for 2026 or in 2026 when the guy is on the roster and Russell Wilson can teach the heir apparent for 2027.

For me?! Focus on IDL, WR, CB, Safety and potentially even OT (mid rounds) for 2025. If a QB the team likes falls within the first two rounds to them?! By all means.

    Agreed.

Besides, team has the likes of WR and IDL to keep in mind. George Pickens is still, more or less, what the team will have in 2025 whereas Keeanu Benton is the only young stud IDL under 25 on the roster. Leal is injured and therefore is a massive question mark moving forward whereas Louddermilk is depth only. Need another rock solid piece there as the likes of Heyward, Lowry, Adams and Ogunjobi are all going to be 30 or over.

Thankfully, Andy Weidl is here; someone who cares about Trench Warfare very much. I entrust both him and Khan to get it done.

Would he be willing? I would think so. Still remains if it's a worthy idea or not. Over his career Fields has had an issue with fumbles. He definitely has the athleticism to pull it off. Then there was his early slide vs the Ravens. Not a no, but not a yes from me.

I wouldn't draft a QB next year, it's a bad class - remember what happened last time?

We have to ride with Wilson while we have this team put together as it is, and add to it pieces that will contribute right away, not a developmental QB, that's going to bring nothing with him but opportunity cost.

Maybe... sign Wilson through Tomlin's extension.
Offer Fields backup money to stay, or sign a different career backup.
I don't think anyone knows who will pan out or not from the draft. Too many sure fire guys have fused out. Too many later rounds guys have become franchise QBs.

You don't start experiencing with something like that this time of the year, nobody knows if Fields can catch either.

I don’t think they tried that at all the following week

He played a lot this year. He's a very good QB as well. He is a guy like Hill. Not saying ypu draft him but he's worth a UDFA

I actually wouldn't mind this too much either.... minus one major takeaway from all of this. Who knows how the board is going to fall in Round 1 as that will determine a lot for Round 2. Pittsburgh cannot continue to forgo the WR position unless that is addressed in FA for 2025. That said and, speaking of the 2025 FA Class, early indications suggest that it isn't looking good sans a few. The 2025 IDL class isn't exactly lighting the world on fire either.

Mind you, this is all under the presumption that Carson Beck is even viewed as such by some NFL Teams. Some may even have him as a Round 1 talent. Not convinced?! This is the same NFL that saw the likes of Kenny Pickett, Josh Rosen and even Daniel Jones all get drafted in Round 1; one is no longer in the NFL and the other two are about to be career long NFL Backups. Yes, Beck has talent that exceeds all of theirs of course but to me, he is just a turbocharged form of Kenny Pickett. That will win you some games in the NFL but as a Franchise Signal Caller?! Man.... roster better be stacked.

Now this I could get behind. Because You aren't forcing one Qb over another.
A lot of people say slash,,but forget slash did most his work with the Qb we do not name still on the field.

Then either bench Wilson, and start Fields, or let Wilson keep playing. Qb carousel don't work.
This is only his forth game since December of last year. He didn't get the whole training camp, and preseason to play either.
Yet in 4 games he has 7 tds, and two more called back...none of which was his fault.

Wilson can keep being the QB, but I don't have a problem with them having a package for Fields.
