    Zero targets yesterday.
Makes you wonder if there was some kind of underlying issue that we don’t know about?

Maybe still getting worked in but with as terrible as our receivers are behind Pickens it makes you scratch your head. Offense was off in general yesterday and 77 is borderline unplayable.

Got 8 snaps. No targets. Why is he not starting over Van by the river Jefferson? One head scratcher in the Smith/Tomlin strategy. Unless he is still learning the complex offensive scheme

That was my issue during the game.
What is it with the head games between receivers and coaching here?
Basically, Pickens is all alone out there, the others just take up air.

I'd like to think there's a good reason. Williams caught a TD pass last week and now he can't get any targets? Seems odd. I'm sure it'll all pan out soon enough.

    Hopefully it works out soon.
They paid a 'fair price' to get Williams. It certainly 'behooves' them to get him on the field as much as possible.

Im sorry, but fact of the matter is that Mike Williams just isn't that good of a player. He has a very limited route tree. He is a deep ball, deep intermediate route player. Even in his prime, Mike Williams would put up a 3 for 100 performance and then disappear for a few weeks. Now he is older and coming off of a knee injury.

The Steelers can expect Mike Williams to be an occasional deep threat, nothing more. He will not be a prototypical WR2. He is not nearly as good of a route runner as Jefferson is, especially on short and lower intermediate routes.

I tried to tell you guys Williams wasn't worth trading for. You guys blamed Aaron Rogers not liking him for his lack of production.

I felt this way too, but even with him on the field, doesn't he draw some coverage and attention? He can't run a 5 and out and be big body for Russ to throw to? Ravens played 2 deep all day and we had no answers - nothing crossing, nothing all day!

Finally got Warren and the TE's some passes in the 2nd half.

Offense just was putrid yesterday - line Bos us for FG's.......2007 football, Tomlin style.

Before I take a beating for being negative, Williams was already worth the trade. His one reception won us the Washington game. Very few players can make that play, and plays like that are what we can expect from him. I will gladly give up the pick for that win.

Wondered about his lack of play as well. That catch to beat Washington was sweet. Not ready to judge Williams on just one catch though. We'll see what he does in the games ahead. I'd hope the coaches would get him some opportunities to see whether they can depend on him, especially come playoff time.

5 yard outs just aren't his game. I do think that as the season goes on the Steelers will find ways to get Williams involved. I would love to see the Steelers maximize both players abilities by switching between them depending on who runs which route more effectively on a given play.

Maybe so but he can’t beat out Van Jefferson or CA3?? That’s about as weak of NFL competition you can get.

i guess not, which again is why some here just weren't all that excited about him coming.....

But yesterday - to think there were not some packages to get him in, was just ludicrous. I did not see him any in the 1st half.

I'd imagine the reason why Mike wasn't used as much was due to the high emphasis of the team playing keep away from Lamar. Yes, the Steelers did take some shots downfield but not nearly as much from the previous three weeks; last week with Mike doubly so and no less. Keeping the game close was likely the strategy; further evidenced by the fact that the last seven meetings or so between Pittsburgh and Baltimore has been decided by fewer than five points if I recall.

Taking Mike Williams out for George Pickens would have been the only aspect I could see in which Williams does play; something that clearly isn't advisable. For that matter, the increased targets for Darnell and Pat only reinforces that the Steelers intended on winning the T.O.P. battle; something they did smoothly as the T.O.P. is reflected below.

    Baltimore: 23:38

    Pittsburgh: 36:22

He should have been the one, not Austin, catching that early game sideline throw.

Im assuming your talking about the one that hit off Austin’s shoulder pads ? I seen another thread here where someone posted that it was a bad pass. Not from what I saw. Wilson dropped it in there and Austin simply couldn’t come down with it. Pickens or Williams make the same catch all day.

But I guess I can see how the Steelers were trying to trick them.

Throw deep to a short guy.
