He's our best RB by far so it will suck to see him go. If he goes I hope the DOlphins pay him a small mountain and feed him the ball 300+ times a season.

Good riddance didn't want him back anyway he has been a disappoinment. Runningback is one of the easiest positions to fill in the draft.

A big disappointment that put up 1,000 yards for us every year despite running behind one of the leagues worst Olines and having an OC that doesn't use his RB's in the passing game. If only Dwyer could have been that big of a disappointment we wouldn't need to draft anyone.

REALLY! He's a spinning washing machine that when the cycles up he spits the ball out ! He would have been a top RB but his head got the best of him, like so many others

I can't believe how many times this debate has been had, and how many times statistics (or simply watching games) proves these views wrong.

I'm not disagreeing that we couldn't find a decent RB in the draft, of course... but we're talking about losing a starting RB and replacing them with what? A Jonathan Dwyer - it took him two seasons to realise you had to work out to be in the NFL. An Isaac Redman? It took him a few seasons on the practice squad to get recognised. A Chris Rainey? Well... enough said.

Wallace and now Mendy, huh? This is EXACTLY why the Fins haven't won a Super Bowl since the early 70s!

He could only do so much. The most telling tale of a RB is the YPC mendenhall wasn't not horrible but not first round pick good. Should he go, I don't think so. But, I do think we can get what we have had in the 3rd or 4th

Oh, just let them have their fun. I'm so tired of this debate. I'm depressed the debate exists. It's like trying to convince 5 year olds that the tooth fairy isn't real. It doesn't matter how logical or just plain right we are. They will believe what they want.

I never understood the love some have for Mendenhall.

The worst part about Mendenhall, for me, is Mendenhall the person. He's weird. Aloof. I don't believe he really fits within the fabric of the locker room. I think he's similar to Kordell in that regards. Weird tweets about oral sex and asking people not to judge Osama Bin Laden until they shared a value meal at Arby's with him (or something like that) . . . His loves are poetry and dance . . . He's got a big mouth (#raylewis #brokenarm) . . . His landmark play during his five-year tenure was a fumble in the Super Bowl at the most inopportune time . . .

Then, you look at his numbers . . .

    5 seasons, 57 games, 3,549yrds, 62yrds per game, 4.1ypc, 31tds, and 7 lost fumbles.

I always liked Willie Parker better (who we unceremoniously dumped after wasting a first-round pick on Mendy). Parker's numbers:

    6 seasons, 79 games, 5,378yrds, 68yrds per game, 4.3ypc, 29tds, and 8 lost fumbles.

Who had the better numbers? Who was a better value (UDFA vs 1st-round pick)?

See 'ya, Mendy. You, your numbers, your attitude, and the big contract some fools will throw your way, are replaceable.

Parker was done by the time Mendenhall got here - his injury dropped his speed, and he was never the same again.

But this has all been gone over many, many times...

If we eliminated things that had been discussed many, many times . . .

there'd be about four threads on this board.

I'm gonna start a thread about cutting veterans and what it would mean to our cap and then I'm gonna follow it up with a thread about about a free agent I think we should pursue.

You're smart enough to know the difference between circumstances when it comes to Parker and Mendenhall. And I've gone over it more times than I care to. If you don't like the guy and want him gone, fine. I can respect that. There are plenty of Steelers I dislike personally (including the man without whom we stand no chance, Ben Roethlisberger, and the man I've defended and praised to no end, the terminally underrated James Harrison). I totally get how people in Pittsburgh might not like Mendy. But don't act like those stats mean a damn thing. Mendenhall was closer to overachieving than underachieving during his time here.

He won't last to 300 carries-if we go by the stats everyone loves to prop him up with.

He's been done since his rookie season. Remember that fateful night when Ray Lewis met him in the hole, broke his shoulder, and stole his soul?
It seems that since then, he has been very conscious about the hits he takes. Lost his mojo after that.
