Yap, I’ll take the 97% odds any day.

whenever you’re ready to put your money where your mouth is, I’ll take the bet for your season tickets. I’ll send you my Rod Woodson jersey if you win.

After a bit of googling apparently a fake punt on 4th and 7 or less has greater than 50% chance of succeeding

I didn't like the call at all. The reason is you need to be almost certain a successful conversion will lead to points. With where they were on the field, even if they get the 1st down they still have a long way to go to get into field goal range. I think you need to try that when the first down marker is no further away than close to mid field. I understand that the defense is going to be more on the lookout the further up the field you are and that they weren't prepared for the fake because of how far back the Steelers were. But the frequency of fake punts in that end of the field is so rare for a reason.

Edited to add - I also don't like DBs being the ones to receive the pass. They are typically DBs because they struggle to catch passes.

I could care less about anything, but risk vs reward.
Risk: automatically give up at least 3 points if not worse.
    Reward: a first down.
I don't know what world some live in, but in football.....points are worth more than a 1st down.
Nothing more , nothing less. Probabilities mean nothing if the reward is not worth the risk.

Stay in the right lane with your blinkers on

I’ll stay in the left lane

    Stick to your limitations

Michigan State beat ND on fake field goal and they were trailing by 3. Might be a more guts call than this one

I agree with this in theory , but you have to practice for Auto calls if the other Team blows alignment pre snap.. For instance 4th. and Goal at the 1 inch line you have a QB sneak called or a Najee power and the QB looks over and sees no one within 30 yards of the split WR it becomes a Auto call ..

It was the same with that play 3 elements to execute direct snap make the throw and make the catch.. They executed the hardest 2 , but it still has to be a Auto call if a Team aligns wrong by mistake or by choice....

The reason I say that is if the other Team sees you have a gunner wide open and you still refuse to take the free play then the next step is blitz overload and boom blocked punt ..It is really in all aspects of Football you have to at least make Teams respect every player on the field or you lose the chess match...

Spot on! Faking a field goal means you are in field goal range, not standing on your own goal line. Being aggressive is also situational and although in that situation it should have worked but when you make the call to do it you also have to consider the downside (ball being tipped, its fumbled, the non WR doesn't catch it, etc). On the road up 7-0 and you are just going to gain a first down and still need to drive down the field and there is still 3 quarters left it wasn't going to be a back breaking moment for them and yes you can say it wasn't a back breaking moment for us but the losing the momentum in that game in an away game wasn't a smart play in my mind. But he's the coach so he makes the call.

How does telling us the conversion rate is 50 percent on fourth-and-seven or less relevant to an attempt on fourth-and-15? That was the down and distance for the Steelers' fake against the Commanders.
