You know SBD, I'm not even sure where you stand on this stuff. Just looking back through this thread, it seemed like you started on a slash and burn kind of "blow up the team" for 2013 tangent, and then moderated your view mid-thread. Now you seem to be back on the slash and burn warpath. Am I missing something here?

By the way, on the Wallace thing - I'm not sure what people want the Steelers to do. The guy has clearly got dollar signs lighting up his eyes. Are there people who REALLY think that we should overpay for him? It's been widely enough reported that he turned down 5/50 last offseason, and it was reported by multiple sources that he was seeking Fitzgerald money. I put a bit less stock in the Fitzgerald money thing, but he is clearly far more focused on his payday than the team. He is a valuable player, and I certainly disagree with the posters who assert that he's a bum. But at what cost do you keep him? I was kind of choking on 5/50. At any level above that, hell no.

Well, it's obvious I don't agree with this ;) but just wanted to point out that he is on the one hand preaching fiscal responsibility and on the other chiding us for letting Wallace go. So what would he have us do, over pay for one player and be tight against the cap or have money invested in several players? I'd choose the later. I think it's very difficult to do what you and the author want, you can't be successful and have lots of cap room, good teams will have good players who demand to be paid. N.E. I think is the only good team with cap space right now and I think that is only because Brady took a pay cut.

I for one don't miss the 90's where all of our FA would walk every year, it's good to see us keep them, they will be making cuts soon enough though.

I'm saying, for the most part I want us to cut the fat. I conceded I understand we can't cut literally every veteran on the team... That's where the cap guru's should make decisions on which cuts are going to save us the most.

I'm not saying we should re-sign Wallace, but I'm saying we should at least have the option to if we wanted to.

    And Tomlin_era...

You said you hated seeing all our FA's leave. What do you think is happening now? Two of our best young players are out the door. People can't get past Wallace's attitude, so let's only look at Lewis.

Lewis is a young talented CB that knows our system... and by most accounts is willing to stay for a fair contract (possibly even below market value), and we still have no chance of keeping him.

I checked out on that rant around the "we're foolish to let Wallace go; look how great ESPN says he is" part. I vote for his walking, get Lewis locked down, JH at a happy medium, and draft away.

Losing a couple isn't what I was talking about, I don't know if you were old enough to remember the 90's but every year was a bloodbath, if there was a FA you knew he'd be gone. You'd never see them keep a core together like this. It was a tribute to Donahoe and Cowher that they were able to replace that talent every year, not an easy thing to do and something we don't do as well anymore, we're certainly not terrible at it, but we seemed to be much better at it then.

And I'm not so sure we lose Lewis either, they got under the cap by restructuring, now they will free up more space with some cuts, I wouldn't say Lewis is definitely gone at all. I keep saying, we'll be trimming the fat soon enough, don't worry, it's coming.

Well it better happen quick. Teams can start talking to free agents tomorrow, so you can bet your ass Keenan Lewis' agent will be getting some calls.

It will be interesting to see exactly what his market value is. He's not going to fit everyone's system.
