No ...as You just said....give up 40 points....guess what???....still it will be the points that will matter. LoL. You can give up 500 yards a game, and not give up a td, and You can only give up 200 yards a game and still give up many tds. It will alway be the points that matter. Hell read Your own post. LoL

This is excellent point. It shows again....while it all matters.....only one thing really matters.....Points.

So was it the yards, or the points that won that game You are talking about??? LoL

The 52 points by the Lions was not only made by the offense....It was a complete team effort since they had so many short field in that game....And yes the steelers score 37 points vs jets and they have been great in the second half and they deserve credit for that but 7 of those points, they start at the one yard line of the Jets!...So hard to credit much the steelers offense for this drive,it was a free 7 points for them in this drive lol!

Agreed, but this is also ....if You think about it....another example of why points, and not yards matter.

For a team,yes...But for a unit, the credit don't always go on offense for the points scored or the blame on the defense for the points against. This is our point

I'm pointing out that even if a defense plays well but gives up a lot of yards they can still lose the game

again, you are incapable of connecting two thoughts.

would you rather give up 20 points and 200 yards each game, or 20 points and 600 yards each game?? Try to think very hard here.

even Austin said the D isn’t happy about themselves and can be better. For once, a steeler coach is connecting two dots.

LoL. If it's 20 points either way it won't matter. For the misinformed....20 points is 20 points no matter how many yards are made. Tell me again about the team that won by yards gained, but not points. I wait .....Oh wise one. LoL.

I'm pointing out Your Defense can play well, and give up hardly no points, and You can lose a game.....by points. Points is the only thing that matters ultimately in a win. I have yet to hear of any team winning, or losing a game by yards, and not points. If there is such a game ....please show it to me. Yet I can show many many many games a team has a lot of yards, and hardly any points, and lose, and a lot of games where a team has not as many yards , but a lot of points, and wins. Yet no matter how You slice it.....it comes down to points. Again....You , or anyone....show me one game a team has won by yards alone. I will wait with baited breath for it.

I think that's the dilemma. have no Idea how Casey Hampton would play in this set, but I see both here and other chats that we need that type. Problem is when the D only uses a player 40% of the snaps, it makes it hard to really evaluate the effect he has. There are so many variants run you really need a different type of player in today;s NFL.

    LoL. OK.
I promise you this. It won't be yards that beat us. It will be points. Again if someone can show me a game where a team loses, or wins by yards, and not points.....I would love to see it. Therefore it's points that ultimately matters in wins, and loses.

The point, which you don't seem to grasp, is that teams that give up a ton of yards consistently have a higher chance of giving up more points in upcoming games. If they happen to give up the least points when the game is played, then great, but *odds* are, when they get to playoffs and play high caliber offense, they are more *likely* to tank.

It's about maximizing odds of giving up less points in the future. You honestly can't see that idea?

No one is even arguing with you on the point that you are stuck on... you can't see that either?

It matter since if the opposing team have 600 yards instead to like 200,it mean that the opposing offense move the ball like crazy and also it mean they control the clock so less chance for our offense to have the ball....I always prefer a 3 and out for the defense

Our defense deserve some blame for the cowboys game for the fact our offense had 17 points....I mean our offense had like only 4 drives in the second half because the cowboys had so many 6-7 minutes drive in that half

    @S.T.D

edit:In the game vs cowboys, the steelers had only 7 drives in the entire game and only 3 in the second half...They still score 2 TD on 3 drives in the second half but it was not enough because the defense were unable to leave the field

And. Did we lose by yards , or points??? Until someone shows me a game where a team won by yards instead of points. I will stick to points matter the most.
Because I can show people tons of games where teams had a lot of yards, but not points, and lost, and a bunch of games where teams didn't have that much yards, but a lot of points, and won,,but I have never ever, ever seen a game where a team won , or lost a game by yards either way, and not points.

They lost that game because our defense stayed way too long on the field in almost every drive by the cowboys and our offense didn't have many opportunity to score in that game because of that...Yards were a huge factor in that loss, bigger than the 3 turnovers and 11 penalties by Dallas

You tell Yourself that if it makes you feel better. The Defense forced 4 turnover that game....3 which we got. If Your team can't score more than 17 points when the Defense holds a team to 20 points,(actually 13 till the last minute of the game) and gives them 3 extra shots....off of turnovers...That's not on the Defense. I don't care how You try spinning it.

I prefer 3 and out that turnovers deep in your terriory....I mean the first turnovers by the Cowboys,we took the ball at the PIT 20...the second turnover we took at the PIT 2,the 3rd turnover,we took at the PIT 37....I prefer a 3 and out and have the ball quickly that have to wait 4-5 minutes per drive to have the ball again....Again the steelers had only 7 drives in that game and 3 in the second half, hard to score many points with so few drive

On the Dallas game, Steelers had the lead in the 3rd quarter, and the D gave up a 9 minute TD drive. Steelers again had the lead in the 4th quarter, and the D gave up the game winning TD drive.

It just happened that the D didn't get a turn over in those drives against Dallas like they usually do. Hopefully they keep getting turn overs late in games over and over and beat Mahomes in the playoffs cause, you know, Mahomes is a turn over machine.

Short fields will do that for you. That's a great example of why it is foolish to look at just one statistic and ignore the others when evaluating a defense.

For me,I just hope they become close to what they were in the first 3 games of the season when the opposing offense had big time struggle to just move the ball
