Everyone talking about Fields in the red zone.
So we should take the Qb that got You there out???
You know Fields did play for 6 games.....is He automatically going to see things better now??
Let look at it this way. Fields played 6 games, and had 10 tds.
Russell has played 2 games, and had 4td(not counting the other two wiped away by two feet, and a penalty). Do the math. Also both of Wilsons were against top 10 defenses ..... now with that said...Which one is the Defense having the hardest time against.
Now if You are talking about having both on the field at the same time. I can see that .

If Russ wins a playoff game - maybe 25 million a year
Playoffs with no win -- around 18 million
He will want to stay in Pittsburgh for one last ride.
He is not gonna look to break the bank .

That just makes it hard to do. It doesn't make it a sport. Although I'm not saying it's NOT a sport. I can't get pregnant, and Have a baby. Doesn't mean getting pregnant is a sport. LoL.
Actually I think Nascar is a sport. I just like to look at both sides of things, and argue sometimes. LoL

Well, neither the Jets and Giants were top 10 defenses prior to last night... though the Jets had a nice showing at home vs. the Texans and vaulted them to 10th. The Giants are 14th. The only other top 10 defense we've faced was the Chargers (1st) but that was with Fields obviously (346 yds and 20 points). But nonetheless...

Wilson has only played 2 games. Hard to get a definitive sample size from that. He could play terrible for a few games, or he could start scoring RZ TD's on every drive. Who really knows at this point. Early returns make the offense look more explosive, so it would be surprising to see us have a big negative dip but its possible. Can't take away the penalty thing because both QB's have had TD's negated by weird penalties and the like. They don't count on the field, so they don't get to count off of it either.

I understand the talk about Fields in the RZ just because he got very good down there by the end of his tenure. His legs offer a different avenue to score and something else that the defense has to worry about. However, I don't think we should just take Wilson out once we get inside the 20. I am sure there's a point in a game where we would give him a RZ series, but it shouldn't be every RZ drive. If we are moving the ball well against Washington but get 3 FG's instead of TD's like we did to start the NYG game, then maybe switch it up the next RZ series... but the sample size is too small to definitively say Russ can't get it done in the RZ, and we should only use the Fields package sparingly (one RZ series a game to start) unless it just scores every time and Russ continues to suck in the RZ.

Yes, and someone else will be in the top 10 next week, and the week after, and the week after. It changes week to week.
Uhmm He actually threw 2 tds down there. Yes they didn't count, but not one time they didn't count because of something He did.
You want to put them both on the field at the same time ok, but You don't take the main Qb out , and disrupt timing, and flow.
Again not counting the 2 td that didn't count.....Wilson has 4 tds in two games....after not playing a game since December last year.
Fields had 10 in 6 games.
So Russell would average out to 12 tds in 6 games. Why would we go with the guy who gave us less?? Makes no sense. Again you want both out there at the same time. Cool.

There is zero denying that Russell has been better in his 2 games as a passer than Fields was in his 6. Fields was the league's 15th best rated passer through 6 weeks and Wilson has been the 3rd in his 2 starts.

The reason why people mention wanting to see Fields some in the red zone is because Fields outperformed Wilson in his RZ opportunities (pretty much solely because his legs bring something extra to the table). In my response I said that we SHOULDN'T take Wilson out in the red zone UNLESS he continues to struggle to score TD's in that area. Even then, we shouldn't do it every possession in the red zone... just sometimes when we need a spark or something. If Wilson comes out and scores 75% TD's the next 3 weeks, the point is moot. There would be no reason to try anything out. But if Wilson continues to punch in TD's at a 40% rate like he has... then why not try to see if Fields can come in on one red zone possession and score? It would be like 5 plays over the course of the entire game on one drive. It wouldn't do anything other than give the defense something to defend that they may not have practiced for with Wilson as the starter. IF WILSON CONTINUES TO STRUGGLE TO SCORE TD'S IN THE REDZONE (and only if), then why not try? Nothing at all to lose by putting Fields in for a possession or two in the RZ.

The absolute hope is that Wilson can play three seasons as opposed to two. Pittsburgh may not be drafting a QB in 2025 given how 2022 taught them a valuable lesson in reaching for one. 2026 is when a QB could potentially be found but 2025's resource allocation must be spent on other areas. Specifically the IDL.

Cameron Heyward, Larry Ogunjobi, Dean Lowry, Montravius Adams; all players who are 29 or over. This is, more or less, what you have in the IDL room. Benton still has promise but his Sophomore Season has been inconsistent at best. Leal cannot be counted on and Loudermilk is depth only. It is very possible that the team may need to double dip on the position; possibly more so than the team has needs at WR.

Outside of Deone Walker, Tyleik Williams from Ohio State is another name to watch. Pittsburgh has been to several Ohio State based contests already. Granted, Emeka Egbuka might be the odds on favorite for the team but in the event the team cannot get him, Williams would be the next best thing.
