So it appears there are three WR’s left. Mike Williams, Cortland Sutton and and Darius Slayton. I’m not that excited about Williams. I think Slayton would be an upgrade but would he be a significant upgrade over Jefferson? Now Cortland Sutton I could get excited about. I doubt it will happen, but if they truly want the guy then make it happen. Maybe a third rd pick and Van Jefferson. They probably would want more as I don’t think they need to move guy but if the price is right they would consider it. He is the type of guy where I think we could sign him long term and he doesn’t need to be the highest paid receiver on the team. Signing him might afford us to also sign Pickens long term next season and we would have the position locked up for four years. It might actually be worth a second rounder in that case. Then next year you draft that massive DT out of Kentucky and use your third on a RB and this team will be pretty much set. Resigning Russ of course or Fields.

I have a fairly worthless news app and Strackbein garbage is typically on there

I can usually tell just from the clickbait title

He may be lower than Mark Madden

At least Maddens idiotic comments are his own

I can’t believe I almost said something nice about Madden

I can smile about the team being 6-2 and point out that this board would be better without people posting clickbait nonsense by hacks like Strackbein. Both can happen at the same time.

How old are you ? You know you have to share this world and this MESSAGE BOARD with others , don't you ?
Then don't click on then if it angers you that much that he said Diontae Johnson is looking forward for the revenge game. I think someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed today... try worrying about something that matters. Wow

Darius Slayton is a much better WR than Jefferson, remember he is putting up those Stats with Daniel Jones as his QB.

The radio told me this morning, there is a strong rumor of Carolina trading Young. I don't remember where to but something got announced.

Madden is a gutless troll. I think Strackbein has the excuse of being relatively young. Madden is old enough to know better, but he doesn't care.

The Sutton rumors make no sense. The Broncos are contenders. Why would they trade him?

I doubt anyone is trading for Jefferson. Maybe Austin.

And yes, Slayton is significantly better than Jefferson.

Madden is probably the dolt that trades away Fields every hour in my news feed - that I never read.

At this point, Wilson seems to be able to get the best out of the receivers we have. I don't know if a trade is a good idea.
Hold on to the picks and keep on rolling.

I count Denver is trading him either but there open to doing it for the right price. Yes their record looks good but obviously they feel they aren’t there yet and are still team building. I think they are looking for a 2nd rounder for him. So they are happy to keep him unless someone is willing to buy high.

I would not say Slayton is significantly better than Jefferson. Better yes but similar in many ways.

Jefferson has one good season in four-plus years in the NFL, when he had over 800 yards for a team that won a Super Bowl. Slayton has never been on a good team, yet has been over 700 yards in four of his five full NFL seasons and he is well on his way there in 2024.

OK he had a couple more 700 yard seasons than Jefferson on worse offense. Did he get those yards because there were no other options? Did Jefferson get less yards because he was often the third or fourth option? Its hard to tell. Im looking at their body type, speed, play style. They are similar in many ways with Slayton being slightly better. I would not count on him being a 1,000 yard receiver consistently in our offense. Not saying we need that but it seems like thats what we were looking for based on the wr’s we have looked at this year. I would prefer Sutton he is big and a great contested catch guy down the field which is what Russ likes. He would be a great asset blocking in this offense as well.

I watched the QB School video on Russ this week and it shows how badly a really good WR2 is needed. JT mentions that the league is defending Pickens as if they view him as a true WR1. They often present safety coverage and use it as "help" or "cloud" coverage to try to limit him as much as they can. It opens up the field for other WR's to win their coverage and make big plays. While I think there's been a decent push by Austin, I still think a true WR2 will pressure out a defense. They will either have to stop bracketing Pickens (which gives him more opportunity to make big plays), or they will continue to bracket Pickens and get killed on the other side losing 1v1's against our WR2.

I would LOVE to see this offense add a guy. We should want to make a real push. We're not building for the long term with Russ (he turns 36 in a few weeks), so if we think we have a team that can compete... make a move. Overpay a bit if you have to, just get it done.

I think Slayton is more than slightly better than Van. He was very tough to cover the other night.

I agree to a point, but I think we can do it with what we have on Offense,,but the reason I agree is because I've watched Wrs go down week after week, and if Pickens goes down we don't have anything close to him. So that's why I agree. Otherwise if I knew for a fact that there would be no injuries to our Wrs.....I would stand firm with what we have. Now on the Defensive side I would like to see something added also.

Yeah, a Pickens injury likely kills any hope of winning in the post-season. Simple as that. I think Austin has worked his way into a really nice #3 WR who is a plus punt returner. I still think Jefferson is better off as a #4, but he's caught a TD and made a really nice play on a ball on the sideline the past two weeks... so he's at least shown a bit more than he did early on. Roman Wilson's season is essentially shot. So yeah, I think we have to be prepared for anything.

So you're saying we need to get Jefferson north of 800 yards..

So the Steelers are really rolling with Pickens Van Jefferson and CA3 as the WR group. We will certainly look back on this error in judgement for some time.

Van Jefferson as the starting #2 WR has
    Through 8 games:

14 catches for 139 yards and 1 TD
