    ‘nothing is hard about it.

Question is over an 7 or 8 game span, is 1 game statistically relevant or not when averaging - as of today chargers are ahead of Steelers and that’s not debatable. It’s math and easy to understand.

after next week or the week after, who knows. If chargers give up 22+ points in their 8th game, then Steelers will be ahead. But based on relevant and valid statistics, chargers will *likley* not give up 22 points but who knows. It’s basic stuff really….

If it's so basic.....why are you questioning it???
    :shrug::shrug::shrug::shrug::shrug:
Name Me one team that has played 8 games that has given up less points??? Now when they all play 8 games.....come back, and see me.....until then......No team that has played 8 games so far....has given up less points. This is not a question....this is not fantasy. This is real life. Now next week may show different,,but it's not next week.

I had to check 3 times to be sure I wasn't imagining that someone gave you a disagree on your obviously correct post. It must have been done by mistake.

And we still haven't given up a point in the third quarter.

True, but I've also been a little less than impressed with some of the play calling in 2nd and 3rd and long situations. Lots of turtling still being done (maybe at Tomlin's direction?). I think he's better than Canada, but even a not so good scheme can be executed well and points can be scored.

Whether or not we are an above average offense will come down to RZ efficiency. we've been 4/10 in RZ TD's (all 4 scored in the Jets game) vs 6/10 RZ FG's with Wilson in. That mark over the course of the season would put us at 31st in the league (only ahead of the NYG). We're 15th in the league even with a bottom tier RZ offense. If we can get ourselves to an NFL average RZ efficiency, we should be able to try to crack the top 10 in the league. In the meantime, the defense needs to get its stuff together because they haven't looked as good as they did the first few weeks of the season.

    7 is a prime number

That has to be factored into it

Multiple things can be true about the Steelers defense. Obviously points per game is one of the most important stats and a big reason why the team is winning but even the most casual of football fans should understand that giving up a bunch of yards is not a good thing.
There are a lot of other things that factor in to how good a defense is such as getting off the field on third down, changing field position, penalties, oppositions time of possession, etc.
I don't think it's a stretch to say that sometimes there is some very poor tackling on this defense with players taking bad angles and being out of position. That is definitely an improvement this defense can make.

They have been playing teams who are not very good and keep squandering scoring opportunities with penalties and mistakes. Eventually, that is not going to happen with these better teams so at that point yes, giving up big yards could very well lead to giving up big points.

The Steelers rank 23rd in the league in passing yards allowed. They are better against the run, ranking fifth in the league. They also rank 17th in the league in sacks which tells me they definitely need to get more pressure on the quarterback. They are 9th in total team defense.

Again, this defense is good and they are also the reason why the Steelers won some of those earlier games but that doesn't mean that there isn't room for improvement before heading into the gauntlet of this season.

Peanut gallery here. I also brought my opinion. Lucky yous....

Points per game is a stat that can be compared with any other team, even if there is a difference in games played because it is an average. The lower the number of games, the more of an affect each game can have on changing the numbers though.

The points scored against the defense stat is the same information used in ppg, but it can't be used to fairly compare two teams at 7 and 8 games played because it is a cumulative stat. In this case, the data set is so small that each game has an extreme affect on the stat. Do it over the last 20 years between two teams and a few games difference won't matter much because the data set is large.

Yeah because 2nd in turnovers, and number 1, in points allowed are cherry picking. LoL

So if said 1st team, that has only play 7 games, allows 30 points next week then what. Of freaking course they allowed less points. They played one less game. Hell even if You don't want to count the additional game. We are then number 2. Wow....terrible

People act like because I say the team is 1st, or 2nd in points allowed, and 2nd in Turnovers....I act like they can't, or shouldn't get better. What I'm saying is a team that is 1st, or 2nd in points allowed, and 2nd in turnovers, ...is no freaking way ...as many have said.... sucks. It's that simple.

Well said. I personally don't think they suck but will admit at times during the games I may have been in an altered state fueled by rage and alcohol, in which time I may have uttered the words, "they suck".

If I'm being honest, not everything in the game day thread needs to be dissected because some people type things out of anger and push send before they really think about it. I know I'm guilty of that.

Based on some of the comments here I am guessing a few posters don't watch many non-Steeler games because if you did you would see many supposed good teams in close battles with mediocre to bad teams each weekend.

I agree with this, but your take in multiple posts about how points per game isn’t a valid comparison stat is tortured logic. I deal with statistical analysis all the time, and your reasoning is hurting my brain. :nea:

This is where everyone is getting me mixed up....hell I might be at fault. Overall points allowed is what I'm saying. Of course a team that has played one less game has less points allowed.

Well, looking at your posts from 6:34 PM yesterday and a few from a little before noon today debating people who were talking point per game, yeah. I guess you were thinking that they meant total points?

It's why I said I might be at fault....., and I believe I've said points allowed quite a few times. If I'm wrong My bad. Won't be the 1st, or the last.
