Without those acrobatic catches on the part of Pickens, I am not sure Wilson's debut would have been that great. Those "moon balls" were mostly underthrown and Pickens, being the freak that he is, was able to salvage them. Sure, good to take those shots with Pickens, as those are not "50/50" balls for him, but if he drops those, things would have looked pretty bleak. One of Muth's grabs was also pretty special. Let's give credit to this underappreciated receiving core for helping out their new QB.

Without pickens, wilson would have an uproar of people saying fields needs to be QB and we would have lost. We're not talking about 1 catch, there was several insane catches. Dude literally grav a catch that bounced off the DB arm.

Took my dumb ass awhile but once I got it I really laughed!!

At first I thought you were mixing up names.

The Sopranos had a great use of that line in an episode.

Without Pickens Fields would have sucked as well

I’m thinking outside the box here but maybe it’s a team sport

Who would be our number 1 WR without Pickens?

Yeah,Pickens is our most important player of this team after Watt because the steelers have no depth after him....Can't afford to lose him and good to see he has a good attitude this year so far....He need to continue!

No doubt, there were a few short passes that were contested catches for Pickens.

In fairness though, Wilson had several good throws, including avoidance of a free runner and hitting Friermuth for a long gain. The Pickens TD in the corner of the end zone was a good throw.

Did anyone notice that Collinsworth called GP one of the best contested ball catchers in the league? I think it was right after the deep pass to the left. I couldn't believe he actually complemented a Steeler.

Yes I can confirm he actually said it. I listen To Collingsworth and what he is saying. He lost me though when he was talking about picking up Beanie Babys for his kids after Beanier Bishop intercepted

With all those Wilsons and Picketts in your post Jeh (and considering the late late game last night for you Easterners) I wanted to break out with:

I'm gonna wait 'til the midnight hour
That's when the Jets come tumbling down
I'm gonna wait 'til the midnight hour
When there's no one else around

I'm gonna take you Rog and sack you
And do all the things I told you
    In the midnight hour
Yes I am, oh, yes I am :guitarplayer:

Whole heartedly agree that it is a team game, and the QB gets way too much credit or blame. Bad offensive line leads to bad quarterbacking. Good run game leads to good quarterbacking. Insanely good wide receiver can make a QB look good. A 4 yard pass and a receiver who can run in the open field really pads the QBs passing yardage. And a receiver who lets the ball bounce off their hands and then gets grabbed by the defender make the QB's interception rating look bad. I kinda wish all stats were team stats, like wins and losses.

If it was Fields, then those passes aren't even attempted and we'll have Pickens on the sidelines again looking like a kid that just got his favorite toy taken away

Before this game, all I heard was we have the worst wr room in NFL… now they are the saviors of the team?:hmm:
Im sure having a qb that can actually put touch on a ball has nothing to do with it
We should get Aiyuk we should get Adams:facepalm: Didn’t a guy named Van Jefferson also have a receiving td? The same Jefferson that some said we would’ve been better to have George Jefferson? Also, Jefferson has more td receptions than the $30 mil a yr Aiyuk..1

This. That’s all I’ve been saying. Great to get the win along with the other 4 wins they have with Fields but there is reason to temper expectations after last nights game. Yet people want affirmation that others were wrong and even apologies. I wasn’t aware the season ended yesterday (happy Scribe, I didn’t use SB).

I was actually thinking the same thing. I bet that GP is happy as a pig in crap right now. That is what WRs want. Throw the ball to them. I guarantee you that today, he is floating on a cloud. And like you said, that is his job. Catch the ball when it is thrown to him. The WR is dealing with 1 or 2 people who have limits on what they can do. The QB has 4 to 7 people trying to kill him.......lol......The QB has to throw while running, evading, scanning, and frequently being dumped on his ass even after he gets the pass off. So I think that the QB's job is to get the ball as close as he can to where it should be and give the WR a chance to make the play....which GP did an excellent job of yesterday.

Less than perfect throws or not, they were good enough for yesterday......imo

I do think that the QB deserves the lion's share of blame or credit. He is reading the defense, making the throws and all that. A terrible QB is going to lead to bad results no matter how good the O line is. Remember what happened to the 49ers when they ran out of QBs?

My brother and I have talked about the stats a lot too. We think about the same as you. A QB's yards should be how far he throws the ball past the line of scrimmage. A receiver's yards should be how far he goes after catching the ball. A dump pass to the RB who is behind the los that goes for 46 yards really has very little to do with the QB. That is all RB.......but, if we did that, Kenny Pickett would have a lot of completed passes and negative yards overall.....lol

This. 100% Also let's not act like Pickens hasn't made more athletic catches for Fields. He's made catches for Fields that that weren't even in his zip code
