Donald Trump will be attending the week 7 game. The Steelers put out an announcement:

About as neutral a statement as possible.

I am not commenting on Trump, don't need secret service at my door.

I bet Mr Rooney is just thrilled

It’s a minority owner who invited him

    Security will be tough

Just wait until the Swifties invade town if Taylor decides to spend Christmas day with her love.

    Putting my mod hat on.

Discussion of the fact of this visit is fine. Discussion of what a PITA it may become for people getting in and out of the stadium is well within the rules.

Opinion about the man is not. Good or bad. No @#$!ing politics! This includes if chants start up during the game. No commenting on if you agree or disagree with whatever chant, cheers or boos happen. It's no secret this is a contentious election. It is well known the individual causes extreme opinions in people. This. Is. Not. The Place to talk about it. Our rules here have been long established. Any posts outside the rules will be deleted (including any posts quoting those posts). Anyone flagrantly and repeatedly breaking that rule may be subject to a time out or worse.

    Consider this the only warning.

I don’t know about Pittsburgh but apparently other teams have politely asked her to stay away

Regardless of your political affiliation, I think it's pretty cool that a former president is coming to a home Steelers game.

Question for @jeh1856@jeh1856 , @mac daddyo@mac daddyo , and @Hanratty#5@Hanratty#5 ... Has this ever happened before? Has a former or sitting president ever attended a home Steelers game? I figured you guys would know since you have been alive for all 46 presidents.

Hope this doesn’t cause any logistical problems for the fans in attendance tonight.

It will totally screw up traffic

And security coming in has been pretty quick lately

I expect that will be way slower

Getting through security will take a lot longer, no doubt.

If anyone is going, plan on going earlier than usual.

Or detract from the actual game in anyway. Politics dominates everything on TV as it is. It would be nice to just focus on football.

The only time I can think of that it might have happened was during the Obama years. I seem to recall Obama being in Pittsburgh when he named Dan Rooney Ambassador to Ireland. But I'm not sure if he actually attended a game.

I don't know about in Pittsburgh. But at a Superbowl, maybe?

Edit: Apparently no President has ever attended a Superbowl (security reasons probably).

My lord, the security at a Super Bowl is already over the top. Imagine throwing a Presidential visit in there.
There was actually a movie made about this, Black Sunday, in 1977.

I wonder if they’ll bump up the time the stadium opens?

They should. It would be the smart move.

But maybe that also causes security concerns? I'm just glad I don't have to organize all of that crap.

Yeah that would help ensure that fans can get the time they need for the full experience inside the stadium.
For a lot of people going to a game is a rarity.

I remember a flight out of London where my plane was delayed on the runway for an hour, because security was practicing for the visit by (then) President Bush... which was a week later.

Just getting prepared for the visit is going to be a logistics headache.
The actual game time problems are likely to be a nightmare, unless the box holder and visitor decide to keep it somewhat private (actually watch the game instead of making a PR stunt out of it).

Jeh and I can tell you when the 7th inning stretch started in baseball. William Howard Taft the 27th president, was attending a Pirate game in Pittsburgh and in the 7th inning stood up to stretch his legs. The fans thought that Taft was leaving so they all stood up out of respect only to see him sit back down and finished watching the game. This was in1910 so it was at Forbes Field that was built the year before in 1909.

It is pretty cool having a former president at a Steeler game…. Almost as cool as having Bane wreck Hines’ kick off return

When the president is on the move in DC, everything stops. Especially if on the ground. Glad I'm not going to this game.
