Tomlin wants to see with his own 2 eyes. I kind of do too.

    BUT

if Wilson is avg or worse this Sun night, that DOES NOT MEAN that Fields would not have been avg or worse.

they are BOTH what they are.

    how is that? ;)

Please don't claim I am not grasping something just because I disagree with what you are saying. I disagree that he has shown much growth. I write that because he is still showing many of the same weaknesses he did in Chicago. He still fumbles too much. He still hesitates, which leads to throwing too late when guys are open. He still doesn't read defenses well. The two areas of growth you are pointing to, the increased completion rate and reduced turnover rate, could just as easily be a function of playing in a much more conservative offense. The Bears often asked him to carry the team, which he could not due. Being asked to make more conservative throws can help a quarterback complete a higher percentage of his passes while throwing fewer interceptions, but it can also lead to him being less productive in terms of yards and touchdowns.

I'm also not saying he should be a finished product. I'm saying that his current trend is in the wrong direction. Maybe teams were expecting the more aggressive Fields they had film of with the Bears. Now they are adjusting to this more conservative version, which may be why his numbers have gone in the wrong direction the last two weeks.

I am focusing more on him as a passer than overall because this is a discussion of growth, not value to the current team. He could always run. That was never the question. He has to get better as a passer, and I'm not sure that we are seeing that.

Stay with what is working for this team. Fields isn’t prefect but very trainable. But with a 4-2 record and the line he has in front of him that is a great record. Forget last game. Less get in with the program. I can’t imagine a coach being mum about who he is going to start. MT is killing this team with a bunch of confusion.

Again Denver. Osweller went 5-2, and they jerked him to put in a 9td , 17 int P. Manning. So yes it has happened, and if I dig around. I probably could find another, but that's off the top of my head.

if you’re saying this move is similar to putting in Peyton manning then you are smoking some seriously good stuff.

Why are some people like this???? I'm saying exactly what I said. Someone said it has never happened, and I pointed out it has. They stuck a P. Manning who had 9td, and 17 ints back into place after Osweller went 5-2. Whatever else you want to read into it is up to you, and yourself

ok. So u r saying that the situation has happened before so its not correct to say it hasn’t happened before.

But you are NOT saying that Peyton manning situation is comparable to the geriatric Wilson situation.

ok. I get it now…. :roflmao:

LoL. Yeah I guess Manning was geriatric that year .....since they benched him for his play, and he retired after that year. What part of 9 tds, and 17 ints is going over your head???? LoL
Where is the clown show tonight??? Surely your late

Kindly mind your own business. If you have something to say on the topic, that's fine, but it is not your place to tell anybody else who they should debate with or what they should debate. Thank you.

The difference is that Manning was injured and they went with Osweiler for the final 7 games and he did go 5-2 but was injured in the final game of the year. So the Broncos started Manning during the playoffs and won the Superbowl. Osweiler was back from injury and was active for the Superbowl but didn't get in the game.
What was said on ESPN was that no QB who started the season 4-2 or better was ever benched while healthy until Fields.

I think the reason Tomlin is starting Wilson is that Wilson wouldn't have signed here unless there was an agreement that he would be the starter when healthy. He is healthy now and although I think Tomlin is satisfied with Fields performance, Tomlin is keeping his word to Russell Wilson and starting him now that he is healthy.

Manning was magically injured. You know this. They didn't want to pull him without saying that. Remember it was just magically He became injured.. this was talked about that whole week after .., and I sure don't remember Osweller getting hurt, but he may have

Also does everyone forget how during the preseason they talked about TJ, and Heyward talking to Russell trying to get him to come here

This was the one time when benching the hot hand actually worked. I remember when Bubby Brister won the last 3 or 4 games of the season to earn a playoff spot but Cowher started O'Donnell in the playoffs and we lost 24-3 to the Bills. The Bills made the same mistake when Doug Flutie led them to a playoff birth but they went with Rob Johnson instead and lost.

disagree. We have had open receivers and JF did not see them. If RW gets a little time, the offense will look different. If he doesn't it will look worse.

If nothing will change under Russ I'll take it. 4-2 every 6 games = 11-6 roughly. That's Playoffs;)

Fields has had 2 bad games vs Cowboys and Raiders....1 great half vs Colts and the rest is mediocre, game management. He's 4-2 as a starter and some teams are envious of this, obviously.

There's more negative than positive in benching Fields at this point. I'd be all for Russ getting the start if it weren't for the below average O line and locker room issues. Steelers are Fields' team now...and it looks like from the outside looking in....that everyone is on board except Pickens.

    Agreed.

Fields mobility is no doubt an asset, but I keep going back to how open our receivers are getting and Fields not seeing them.

I think Russ opens up the passing game, esp with Roman Wilson back in the line up.

And if he doesn’t, we are where we are

I would guess that it’s quietly more than just Pickens. I’d guess any of the receivers and TEs are hoping for more opportunities with Russ. Most are just mature enough not to flap their gums.
