With the huge need at ILB, our lack of depth, and the lack of talent at ILB in this years draft, i think this would be a no brainer to try to sign him. He would become a free agent right away and is scheduled to make 3 mill this season. We could get a couple year deal done and only have 1.5-2 mill cap hit for this year. Foote has a cap hit of 3.6 mill last year and as much as i like foote, his play was pretty bad last season.

-#1 in missed tackles and touchdowns given up for LB's in the league

Yeah, I don't know. My biggest concern is that a cyborg assassin will show up from the year 2029 and come looking for him. From what I understand, The Resistance will need him badly.

I do admire your brass in the face of an entire community ready to jump on anybody starting a 'This guy is available, SIGN HIM!' post and starting a 'This guy isn't even available, SIGN HIM!' thread.

LOL, yea but in this case i think it makes a lot of sense. Reasonably cheap vet at a position we have a huge need. As Steeler fans we get so use to the Steelers way that it seems unrealistic to ever sign a player in Free Agency, but i think we have drafted our way into a corner, so now we are forced to. I really believe we sign 2 starters via free agency this year, which is huge for us.

This is all if he actually gets released.

Do you have a link that says this...I havent seen anything about it yet...but it doesnt surprise me as I thought they over payed for him when they signed him...but at the time I think they were going to have him start and then they got a guy they liked better/etc...who knows with them...big bucks Jerry handing out money isn't a surprise.

I wanted to sign him when he was a FA before. I think he could fit in fine or even Larry Grant from SF...and both are younger. But the price has to be right. And just because Foote made 3.6 mil last year he wouldnt get anywhere near that this year.

And Dick you're thinking of JOHN Conner (there is a FB named that though)...but nice reference, haha!

I'm not worried about this at all. Arnold is out of office in CA now, so he has plenty of free time to watch Dan's back.

I hate to break your guys hearts. But in the Terminator Movies his name is John Connor, not Dan Connor.

LOLOLOLOLOL!!!! DAN Connor was Roseanne's hubby! WHO KNEW??? He was a cyborg all along??? LOL! After all the whole show basically turned out to not be set in reality anyway right? I mean Roseanne was writing like a book or something and she made people what she wanted them to be or something like that.

No he wasn't, he just played a position that allows him to rack up tackles. Put any LB'er in that position in our system and they'll rack up tackles. Foote was pretty ordinary in every way. He was consistent and injury free, I'll give him that, but he was not one of our best players just because he made some tackles

Yea you're right about that, a tackle is recorded whether the runner or receiver goes for 1 yard or 50. Foote will more than likely be cheaper this year than last year and that will be the deciding factor. That and he already knows the defense.

We can't be stuck with Foote again. He was terrible last season. He was #1 in the entire league in missed tackles. I also heard not to long ago on NFL radio that he graded out as one of the worst LB's in the league. I'd rather have a 2nd or 3rd rd draft pick start than have Foote in there. At least they would be learning and have room to improve. He is seriously on the down side. I'm surprised he hasn't retired yet.

I think people are a little bit hard on Foote. What the grading doesn't show is that he led the defense on the field, and that has some value because he makes sure that people are in position at the snap. That's why the Steelers are (supposedly) talking to him about another year. My ideal situation is to draft an ILB prospect and bring Foote back for 1 more year at the vet minimum, and then rotate the rookie in more and more as the season progresses until he ends up as the starter. I don't see us finding a similarly priced free agent who will fit our immediate needs as much as Foote, and we can't afford anyone who is much more expensive.

His leadership couldn't have been that good with an 8-8 season and a broken locker room.

What ILB do you take that can contribute right away?

I'm down with draft one, just not early and not sure if there is anyone who can come in and start, which is what we need. Someone to raise the production from that position. The teams window is not getting wider to win another Super Bowl, so not fixing areas that were subpar last year is a problem.
