The Penguin

I don't think many get HBO/MAX but if you do The Penguin is a 8 episode limited series. It's based on the Penguin from Batman. Colin Farrell must spend 8 hours in a make up chair. Story is about how the Penguin rose to power in the Gotham city underworld. Farrell looks really ugly and fat and waddles like the Penguin. First episode was very cool.

Colin Farrell was in the worse True Detective season but he is doing great job as The Penguin AKA Oz Cobb.

 

Yes agree completely - first episode was almost over when I checked the credits and was shocked who was playing the Penguin. Just watched the Whitey Bulger movie Black Mass from 2015 and couldn't believe who was playing him. The makeup they use on these actors is unreal. You could tell that it was Brendon Frasier playing The Whale but the weight gain and blubbery prosthetics was amazing.

Yeah, she just got out of a mental institute and I'm guessing she is going to be the rival for OZ. She is PO'd about OZ killing her brother. Episode 2 was good.

 

Episode 4 was pretty cool. Great ending. Cristin Milioti is doing a hell of a job. She was in The Wolf of Wall Street. She was first wife who got dumped for the woman who should have been my lover, Margot Robbie.

 

Very good so far - interesting overtones of the Godfather. Slick how Sofia offed the entire family that betrayed her without us knowing it was happening.

 

As soon as she took little girl out of house i guessed it.

At the very beginning his name was said but you never saw him. Gotham got it ass kicked at one point. Penguins kid he has working for him lost his parents in the explosions but again it was minor part of story. Story is all about Oz (Penguin) rise to power in Gotham.

 

If it wasn't for the nickname "Penguin" and other very minor references, you really wouldn't even know this was part of the Batman anthology - just a very well done gangster movie/series in a gritty urban setting.

 

So none of the Gotham heroes oppose him???

Shows all about his rise to power. He is playing both sides in the drug business. The girl Sofia Falcone is going to be his biggest problem and she is bad ass.

I thought the kid he picked up to help him was to afraid and shy to assist him. Finally figured out he has a bad stuttering problem.

 

Ah ....Falcone is another bad guy in the DC universe.

 

Last episode was my favorite. Drops is the drug in the show. You put them in your eye and get high. Had to laugh at Oz's new drug, it's frigging Mushrooms

 

1 more episode to go. The Penguin is a prick but I dig him.

 

Hey guy, I don't know if you will watch the Penguin. I am not big on the DC universe and wanted to ask you a few questions but there would be spoilers involved in my questions. Thus, if you are going to check it out I'm not asking. I don't think you get HBO/MAX but you may rent the DVD when and if it comes out.

 

I will a watch it.... Sometime after the season is over...., but you can ask away. All my answer will come from comics, or books pertaining to the comics, but Honestly....I know way more about the Marvel universe than I do the DC universe....because when I collected that's what I mostly collected. Out of DC I mainly stuck to Batman, and anything with Aquaman....unless it was DC Vertigo.

 

No, that's OK. The part I want to ask about is a What the F moment and I don't want to ruin it.

 

There are references to characters in the comics, but many aspects of those characters are different in the show. For example, Sofia is huge in the comics, but not on the show. Her back story is a little different, too. I'm more of a Marvel guy, too, so I mostly know about the comics through breakdown videos on the Screencrush YouTube channel.

 

If you have questions about the connection to the comics, Screencrush breaks that stuff down well. If it is more about discussing the WTF moment, yeah, probably better to wait a while.
