George Pickens played limited snaps due to discipline?

I saw this somewhere over the summer. It sounds like Pickens lost most of his annual salary through fines from the league or the Steelers.

I can’t agree more. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

If you look back at the last 10 or 15 years, we have traded a number of receivers (Holmes, AB, Claypool, Bryant, etc.).

We keep drafting WRs who slide in the draft because of character concerns and then act surprised when they show their character…..

We both know Omar is not in charge of Tomlin. We had four drops that game and I could even add a fifth if Pickens didn’t jog on his crossing route. Jefferson had a drop, Heyward had two and Pickens had two. But I guess its the QB’s fault. I’m telling you the QB is not the problem right now on this team. Is the qb perfect by no means but he is certainly playing well enough within the confines of the scheme to win games. The issue is we lack a second wr. Our first wr is a selfish immature player, our defense is not schemed correctly and bad defensive play calling with a ton of guys underperforming on defense. Our offensive line is injured and underperforming, the only one playing well is Frazier. Lack of a running game. IN fact our QB is playing very well considering how bad the run game and receiver and offensive line have been.

We have terrible clock management and lack the ability to properly challenge plays. The team is a mess. Omar is spending money on the players Tomlin tells him to spend money on. The issue isn’t the 3-4 players. The issue is the scheme. We have press man corners playing zone. We have nose tackles losing weight and getting pushed around. We have high pedigree inside linebackers not being used correctly. This is ALL on Tomlin. He has to go. Its been over five years of the same thing over and over and over again. We have the talent on this team right now if we get the right coaching to go far. This defense alone is better than KC’s and Minnesotas talent wise but we are woefully underperforming

In any world, these 2 QBs are not solutions to any system. At best, one or maybe both can function enough to swim at .500 maybe.
Fields might have some hope as he is younger, but that remains to be proven.
Omar brought in a bunch a low round drafts picks, undrafted guys, and practice squad guys to put opposite of a head case in Pickens which Omar owns partial responsibility to as well.

There is no excuse for the coaching as I have said, and the GM is largely responsible for Tomlin.. So even if Rooney says, 'you two are equal' it is up to Omar to say, 'this guy can't coach anymore' and the owner can decide. It is obvious they are not on the same page.

If Tomlin disciplines Pickens by pulling him out of games, is that good coaching or bad coaching?
I don't understand the issue really. Pickens is actually almost always F***ing open. Throw him the ball.

Your not being practical in your observations at all. No way a coach of Tomlins seniority or pedigree is going to report or answer to a brand new inexperienced GM. It just isn’t going to happen. Tomlin could essentially coach anywhere he wants. Omar yields no power or authority over Tomlin.
Omar literally had no wr talent to bring in but third rate talent. He tried to bring in Mike Williams but he signed with the Jets. He tried to trade for Aiyuk. I wish he would have picked up Noah Brown but who knows maybe they di try and that guy chose Washington. The effort has certainly been there. I knew it would be one more year for us to finalize the buildout of this roster. We still need a slot CB and WR2. Good coaching can go a long way to QB success. Look at Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield. Heck I don’t think Philly’s QB could play for every team nor could Miami’s. ALot right has to happen for the QB to work out. I think Fields is just fine for this system. They get another WR 2 and the offensive line blocks better and we actually develop a run game I think he will flourish. The team around Fields is literally not helping the guy right now. Regarding Wilson I don’t even know how you can comment on that guy as we have not seen him in our system. But you have your mind made up.

I don't subscribe to most if that.
    I'm sticking with:
Omar is weak as a GM. He did train under a legend here and he was slow and steady.
Tomlin does not get a free pass, if he 'dictates' to Smith - "Don't lose the game" that is a problem.
I am skeptical of our staff as a whole. (I would swap Austin for Saleh in the bat of an eye)
Team chemistry is an important ingredient, and Pickens just doesn't seem to get it.
Injuries happen, every team faces that, so you have to adapt.
When our offense clicks and we score, our defense gets much better.
Tomlin is responsible for his staff.. they fail, he fails.
Our QB's are not scaring anyone - nor are the Receivers.

If you send Pickens and CA3 both on deep routes the safety has to choose. If they play 2 safeties high, the underneath to the TEs becomes available.
Right now the run game is shut down. Have to invent some ways to move the chains in the passing game.

I agree with what your saying accept for Khan. In addition our offense did more than enough to help the defense this game. We were up by four points with four minutes left. What more does our defense want?

One of those people is Mike Tomlin. Did you discipline Pickens or not? If you did, and lack of hustle is not a first offense, say so. Say he needs to pay attention, needs to be involved in plays where he not the target. Covering for the problem child is not going to change his behavior. Of course, not covering for it probably won’t change it either.

Boy you make it sound so easy. That works provided Austin can get off the line of scrimmage against press. Also the oline has to block.

Maybe the Raiders for something else other than Adams

I can’t see them trading a disgruntled receiver with 10 good years of play for a disgruntled receiver with 1. Doesn’t seem to be a fair trade to me. Contracts aside.

Although I don’t know the story on Adams and his displeasure possibly that can be fixed.

In the case of Pickens you can’t fix stupid.

If it works it is easy. If it doesn't try something else.

Bryant, Claypoole, AB, Bell, just recently DJ, and ______.
Can the NFLs “player coach” salvage this situation or add to a growing list?

It’s tough to sit him but to command accountability and discipline you have to sit him other wise the rest of the team won’t respect Tomlin’s authority. In addition Pickens has alot more to give. His value in just being a decoy on plays or blocking is huge. He can draw coverage away from other areas of the field opening it up for Friermuth or Other receivers. He can cause two high safety looks freeing up the run game. We need his maximum effort every play.

It’s necessary coaching and leadership. You think the Minkah and Watts of the world respect Tomlin if he doesn’t sit him. It just causes more problems in the locker room over the long haul if you don’t discipline the guy.

when I coached if two guys were acting up in practice or one was messing with another and the other justifiably retaliated … I still sent them both running. The innocent guy got pissed at the guilty party and caused them to police themselves better.

I do t think our issues are routes or play design. Last year yes but not this year.

It doesn't seem like our play designs are producing many points. Just like last season. Only suggesting to try something different than what we've been doing up to now. I don't really care if we run the ball every snap so long as we are scoring enough to win games.

I said to draft a WR in the first round a 1000 times and everyone on this board said we need a OL.
    blah blah blah

Pickens is a joke and what the hell is going on with Wilson.
How is he not playing yet ?

Brian Thomas would look pretty good right now.
Our OL is out for the year after 1 game. unreal

    Disciplining him is good coaching

If you think a 5 year old misbehaving is tolerable you sure as heck won’t think so at 15
