OVER THE CAP.. every year... i hateeeeeeeeeee the bengals but look at them.. the lowest paid team in FB.... with the worst front office in maybe all of sports... and a below average coach.... and yet they finish 2 games better then us .. at 10-6 anddddddddd they are 50 million UNDER the cap...so heres my question to all you CAP GURUs .... who are the top 5 players that we have that are the biggest 5 hits to our cap... i assume ben? troy? woodley? but i have no clue... love to see a top 5 or top 10 or a full breakdown of our cap hits vs what the league says we can spend? im sure some of you guys.. or TTF has that info? thanks

The team went nuts in the non cap season that saw us/ mendenhall's fumble lose to GB in the SB,, the team is still paying for that gamble. It's going to take some time to get rid of the left over garbage

the guys in red need to be released. im sure there will still be a cap hit, but maybe not as bad.

the guys in blue need to restructure.

the guys in green are big question marks to me. especially Woodley and Troy. they havent stayed healthy and if they cant get through next season healthy it will be waste money. Clark is still very good, but he is close to the end

i left Miller alone because he earns his money. never complains or gets into trouble. he just does his job and does it very well.

I'd release Ike instead of Brett, but only if Kennan can be signed. AS for Heath: tough decision, there. Is he even going to be able to play in 2013?

Miller has been the ultimate Steeler and unlike Brett, Woodley, Troy and James, Miller still has a lot of game left and this is the 1st real injury he has had. i think we have seen a pattern with those other 4. Troy cant stay healthy. James and Brett are on the down side and Woodley is always out of shape. i think they need to see how Miller comes back then make a decision in 2014 on him.

Ryan has a relatively low cap hit, so I don't think he needs to go. He shows up to play, plays hard, and is one of the few players who has some semblance of leadership on the team.

I know I'm in the minority on this one, but . . . an $8million cap hit on a tight end is outrageous (unless your name is Graham or Gronkowski who are unbelievable red zone threats). And I know everyone would like to believe Heath is the greatest thing since the pilgrims murdered the indians but he is NOT in the same league as Graham and Gronk. He doesn't have near the athletic ability as Graham nor the combination of speed and power that Gronk has. That is insane money we are spending on a TIGHT END . . . who just destroyed his knee.

I'd MUCH rather have a corner like Cedric Tillman or Patrick Peterson for $8mill a year and roll with Saunders, Spaeth, Tuman or whatever other c-list tight end in our recycle bins of yesteryear.

    Just my (wildly unpopular) opinion.

LOL you got to be kidding ike and ryan at the same time? you're kidding right? heres a good question for you.. when is the last time we won a game when ryan didnt start? how does denver work out for us almost every year without ryan... even tebow threw for over 300 yards.. that might be the worst thing the steelers can do and hes not that big of a cap hit... if ryan goes i change my 2014 prediction from 8-8 to 6-10 and if ike and ryan go put me down for 5-11 ... thats the worst post i have ever seen on this board...

I have most of that between a few spreadsheets, Mac. I've got to hit the road right now, but I'll put it together and post it up later on.

    Ha, anytime.

We've always sucked at Denver. Even in the 70s we sucked at Denver. We were 1-3-1.

Its the result of being loyal and overpaying a little here and a little there to "do the right thing" and reward players who maybe shouldn't have been. Or at least shouldn't have been so soon.

I think its a direct result of when the Steelers were roundly criticized as being cheap for letting FA after FA walk back before the Heinz Field money in the 1990s.

I remember seeing a post like this on the depot...use the search box and search for salary cap or something as I swear I saw one like that there (but no guarantees haha).

The bungles 'finally' finished with a better record.
Their stars are young, and they will be in the same cap situation soon, when their players are in line for new contracts.
It's not as if the bungles are staying $50 mill. under the cap and winning Super Bowls.
Almost every good team is over the cap, now.

Consider the alternative...stop paying players and suck for a few years...I'll take being over the cap

We need to stop restructuring. Restructuring is akin to paying for everything on a CC then forgetting about it. That's all fine and dandy until the bill comes, and then you realize you have to pay interest. Restructure Ben's contract again and eventually we're going to be looking at a $30 million cap hit for him one of these years.

We need to do what we can to get under the cap without more restructuring. It may mean dumping people we don't want to get rid of, but that's the unfortunate part of a salary cap. It may also mean we're not as competitive as we could be, but a little short term pain for long term gain isn't a bad thing.
