RUSS WILSON TO THE DOLPHINS?

Russ would be a backup in Miami anyway once Tua returns.

I would hope he's good to be QB2 here. Pittsburgh is the better team and he could still have a path to starting if Fields falters/gets hurt.

Right, and that's assuming he plays in any games at all this year. Fields has earned being #1, he'll either have to really sh!t the bed, or get injured before Wilson sees any action. Still, Wilson is one hell of a back up to have if need be, but at this point, I'd trade him for Waddle in a heartbeat

 

And for argument sake how much help would Waddle be if Fields goes down???. No matter how I'm beginning to feel about Fields.....He has yet to play a whole season.

 

What good will Waddle do if Fields goes down. We haven't needed a Waddle yet, but if Fields goes down....we will definitely need a Russell.

Of course, anyone would accept Waddle for Wilson, but that's not going to happen. Maybe they could get a fourth-rounder for Wilson and a six, recouping the conditional pick they will lose if Fields remains the starter.

Good teams don't make that sort of trade because they know they might need their backup quarterback. That is especially true if Fields becomes the starter given how much he relies on his legs.

However, will the Dolphins want Wilson though considering that Bryce Young may likely be available as well?! Much like Justin Fields, I'd imagine Miami wants the younger option. As for Bryce Young himself.


It clearly hasn't worked out in Carolina. Allow him to refresh elsewhere.

 

Jaylen Waddle is 25. He is just entering his prime. The Dolphins just gave him a three-year, $84.75 million contract extension. He has been over 1,000 yards receiving in all three of his NFL seasons and led the league with 18.1 yards per reception just two years ago. They aren't giving that up for what's left of Russell Wilson in the final year of his deal.

That said, trading for a Russell Wilson still bothered by a calf injury?! Man.... that is quite the risk Stephen Ross would take. Essentially, Wilson's calf is a ticking time bomb at this point.

I'm sure you're right, no way a straight up Wilson for Waddle trade is going to happen, and it wouldn't be worth trading Wilson for a 4th and 6th. Better off just keeping Wilson as a back-up, but the question is, do you think a guy who's been a starter his whole career, especially someone with Wilson's resume is going to be content with being Fields backup for the rest of the season?

 

I highly doubt Miami would consider getting rid of Waddle for anyone, his dead CAP hit for this year is 40 million, going forward his salary is actually manageable, more of a high tier number 2, you don't trade your weapons unless you are throwing in the towel and doing a complete rebuild. I have no idea if Young can be a quality NFL QB, but your thinking is more realistic, getting him relatively cheap with still a 2 year window on his rookie contract makes it more compelling than getting a guy who is aged and a FA at years end.

 

Why would the Dolphins trade Waddle away anyways? He is under contract long term and at a good price. They have Hill, Waddle, and Tua together and a young stud RB in Achane. They have the offensive talent, they just need to be good enough defensively... and healthy.

 

He probably wont be happy with it, but who cares? He's on a one year deal with us and we never promised him the starting job. Hell, he won it but wasn't healthy. If we walk away with Fields developing into that high end game manager with upside and a pissed off Russell Wilson, then we win anyways.

 

I wasn't referring to Waddle specifically though that is a WR Pittsburgh would no doubt inquire about. I was just stating from a perspective of why the Dolphins may inquire about Bryce first before Russell. Russell makes sense but his current injury isn't something to be messed with.


Remember that Aaron Rodgers had this very same calf ailment a season ago; his season ending only in 4 snaps. Granted, Russell Wilson's training habits are second to none so this injury come be a one off for him. However, given his age, it does beg the question as to how much longer Wilson's Calf will hold out.
