Just read an article on steeler depot where a teammate critized woodley for not working out and being out of shape. Why do these idiots insist on going public with stuff like that?

it sounds about right though. i didn't read anything that i haven't seen from him. including the assessment of harrison. if healthy, he and worilds could make alot of noise.

woodley just makes to much money and cap hit now. so we may lose the best LB because of it. then we still don't know how long woodley will last during the year, not to mention at what level he will play week to week.

if we dump james and woodley went down, we are looking at worilds and carter as the starters, but we saved some money.

Woodley would be a terror if he just got into football shape. He's too busy being on MTV's guy code, and hip hop squares, and everything else. He forgot what it means to be a football player.

he got married last year in vegas too. all these things can divert your attention from your job. even keeping track of all the money he's now made. i could see how working out hard could get away from him the last couple of years.

Woodley was a terror before the dough and fame. I would be shopping him hard. Worilds can take the spot.

Funny, when I get a raise, I raise my game. And I get peanuts, As much dough that was thrown his way (yes the Steeler brass agreed to the deal ) I was not in favor of such a contract. And now it's haunting the cap number.

He is another hammy away from mailing in a season again. I just don't feel his heart is into it. Which is fine, send him off somewhere else.

This team needs the pre dough Woodley. Hungry, Disrupting. I have my doubts.

And obviously the media and teammates see the same as most of us.

Wow! This line from the articles says it all:
Steelers linebacker LaMarr Woodley wasn't much of a football player last season, but he is getting rave reviews for his portrayal of legendary rapper Jam Master Jay.

I don't necessarily like it when a teammate says something to the press that he won't put his name to, but whoever said this is ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! I would like to think that whoever the unnamed teammate is has also said this to Woodley.

    Two takeaways here:
    1) THE STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING COORDINATOR NEEDS TO BE FIRED TODAY!!!
    2) LAMARR WOODLEY NEEDS TO GET HIS FAT BUTT IN SHAPE!!!!!!!!!!

I wish you guys would knock of the trade or cut Woodley comments, it's not going to happen this season. You need to come to tearms with the fact that it's almost imposible money/cap wise to do so.

If it's about the money why would he care if he was traded? That's not going to motivate him. He still gets his money and he's still dead money against the Steelers cap. Steelers backed into a corner with him right now. They best hope he comes back strong next year.

if he keep doing commercial and increase his fat (did you see the last one) i would take the cap hit and clean the salary in the 2014 , worilds will take his place

While you can talk about Woodley's fire and conditioning, I think the fact that someone said this to the media is lame.

If I was Woodley I'd walk into camp day 1 and stand up and say if anyone wants to say something to me, say it... don't hide behind some reporter,

If he comes into camp the way he has been ,he surely wont be able to hide behind anyone or anything for that matter.

What player would you guys guess said it? I would say Timmons since he is always in shape and doesn't miss games. Just a guess though. Really doesn't matter.

I was wondering the same thing. I'd say it was either Ryan Clark or Ike Taylor. I would hope that whoever said it would have the guts to also say it to his face. The fact is that HE NEEDS TO HEAR IT!

Timmons ? The guy who couldn't get on the field his rookie year because he was injured? What was it Groin? Woodley played in nearly 60 consecutive games before getting injured in 2011. He'll get healthy.

We should be shopping Woodley, maybe a change
of scenery will do all parties some good. You have to give to get
though. I personally do not feel that Worilds is an impact player
Hopefully I am wrong. I also feel that Woodley does not take his
profession seriously for a guy that is due to make 61 mill.
I have brought this up before about incentive laced contracts.
Woodley and Troy and Harrison and Ben all need these put into
their contracts. If they don't meet these certain goals they get less MONEY.
Its done in the business world everyday. For people making alot less money than
    these Prima donas.

Explain to me how we can trade Woodley and it not have worse effect on our cap than keeping him?

We can't trade Woodley, nobody would touch him. There isn't many trades in the NFL to begin with, let alone trades for under-performing players with massive cap hits. We couldn't give him away, let alone trade him.

As for incentive contracts, those do happen, but players will simply not come to Pittsburgh if we didn't enough a high enough base salary. It will simply not be accepted by players and agents around the league. We wouldn't be able to sign anyway. Players don't want 90% of their salary tied up in incentives, they want a high base salary, and if we don't give it to them, they won't come here.

There is ZERO chance that we part ways with Woodley this season. The reality is that, because of last year's restructuring, we would be about 1.5 - 2 million WORSE under the cap if we send him packing this offseason (either via a cut or trade). However, I would really like to see management come up with a way to make the numbers work this offseason without restructuring him yet again. If they can do that, I think we will be in a position next season where we would not take a hit if we made a move. To be clear, I do not want to send him packing at all. I think he's a great player with a lot left in the tank. However, I do want him to prepare this offseason with the knowledge that we can part ways with him next offseason without taking a hit. He has a lot going on outside of football, and I can't recall seeing too many players maintain their edge with that much else going on.

Woodley was out of shape. Everyone in this forum knew it, so it has become obvious that his teammates know as well. It isn't about the injuries either, it is about his explosiveness, it is gone. That is just a fact. Your fast twitch muscles aren't functioning and when you try to push them, you pull muscles or sprain things. Woodley needs to listen to what Ray Lewis said last year, he lost weight because the game now demanded it of him.

If I had to guess who said it, I am going to guess Ryan Clark or Larry Foote. They are the types of veteran guys who could garner the respect of the reporter getting them to stay quiet about it and not release their name.

When it comes to Woodley standing up and saying, hey you have something to say to me just go ahead and say it. You might as well divide the locker room in the first meeting. The point is how he responds. Does he get mad at his teammates or does he let it motivate him? If he thinks the teammate is wrong, this will be his last year here as we will cut him next offseason if he can't perform. Worilds had 1 more sack than Woodley and I am sure he didn't play the same number of plays as Woodley did.

Whoever the player was, it was wrong of him to air it out in public before being man enough to say it to woodley first, or at least being man enough to put his name on the quote... this is how locker rooms get fractured..granted, the player was correct in his assessment, but if he cared about the team he would've pulled woodley aside and told him the truth to his face instead of trying to turn the steelers locker room into the jets locker.... it is painfully obvious that the team lacks leadership in a big way.
