Trying to put a positive spin on Charger/Steeler stats so far.

Both teams 2-0 (no style points given)
    Fields - 30/43, 273 passing yds, 1 TD, 0 INT, 84 rushing yds
    Herbert - 31/46, 274 passing yds, 3 TDs, 1 INT, 24 rushing yds
Dobbins - 266 rushing yds, 4 Rec yds, 2 TDs (Note 2 breakaway runs for 104 total yds or 162 yds without)
Harris - 139 rushing yds, 14 rec yds, 0 TDs (no real breakaway runs)
    Steelers rushing - 278 yds
Chargers rushing - 395 yds (291 yds without Dobbins 2 long runs)
    Steelers scoring stats - 31-16, 15 diff
    Charger scoring stats - 48-13, 35 diff

Overall, Chargers score more and have higher point differential but 2-0 is 2-0!
Also, passing stats are nearly identical and would favor Steelers but for dumb ass penalties.
Chargers certainly have edge in rushing aided by 2 breakaway long runs by Dobbins of 61 and 43 yds.

Hopefully Steelers D can put some points on the board with pick 6's and/or fumble 6's taking advantage of Herbert's bum ankle.

Playing in front of a home crowd should help this - don't recall Charger fans taking over any stadium including their stays in SD and LA. Steelers usually outdrew them in both locales - recalling Charger QB's trying to hush the "home" crowd noise when they had the ball. :dancing:

    LOL

Agree my initial score prediction was 31-13 home opener
    OUR HOUSE!!!!!

I went low in score later because we all know in between peeepee breaks @jeh1856 might upset Fields.

    Damn that. The entire stadium..

This one worries me. It will be a close game for sure. In the pickem I actually picked the Chargers to win this week.

    Reasons being

#1 The Chargers play it safe like the Steelers do. They don't really turn the ball over.

#2 In a close game I trust Harbaugh not to make stupid game management decisions more than I do Tomlin

#3 I just don't believe the Steelers can score. If they score 20 points they will win. But 20 almost seems impossible at this point.

I would love to be wrong. This game has the feel of a Steelers v Ravens matchup, especially with JK Dobbins and Gus Edwards playing. I almost wish Lamar was playing too. At least you can count on him to turn the ball over a few times. Herbert has been pretty solid at managing games.

This I believe will be the key also. Qb play....., but I believe, or maybe hope....we can force their O into some costly mistakes. If not.

Both teams the Steelers have faced so far appear to have better-than-average defenses.
Both teams the Chargers faced appear to have worse-than-average defenses, with Carolina being the league worst.

The Chargers very likely have a better offense, but a direct stat comparison is misleading given the teams they've faced.

You could well be right. But let me give counter-arguments.

    (1) The Steelers are +5 in turnover differential (0 giveaways, 5 takeaways). Chargers are +2 (2 giveaways, 4 takeaways). They are both "plus", but I wouldn't put them on the same footing.

A decade ago, during Harbaugh's SF reign, his teams averaged at least 1 turnover a game, and every year had more offensive turnovers than the year before. Seems like he inherited a good team (security wise) and they got worse under his schemes.

    (2) The Chargers haven't been challenged yet this year. They had at least 2-score wins in both games. In theory Harbaugh would be a better game manager, but he hasn't proven it yet.

    (3) The Steelers OFFENSE hasn't shown it can score yet. But considering the offense has a new coordinator, revamped line, new QB, etc., they are more likely to show improvement as the season proceeds, and especially at home.

I can imagine the Steelers getting 23 points: 1 TD (rushing), 3 FGs, and a defensive TD (pick-6 or sack-strip-run).
