I watched Alt at Notre Dame for years, he is the #5 draft pick overall last year. Very curious to see how this match up pans out. I am hoping Watt’s speed and experience can overwhelm the rookie but this kid is the real deal.

If Watt had his way with him it doesn't mean he's not good. Watt has had his way with many a great players.

could be a defensive beat down, on BOTH sides of the ball.

FGs are good, ball protection is good, punts are not awful!

    RUN right at them!!!!

Joe Alt is one of the greatest Offensive Lineman I have ever scouted personally. From a pure tangibles standpoint, he is the classic case of Create-A-Player from the Madden Games; tall, excellent leverage for his size (more on this in a bit), superb athletic ability combined with rock solid discipline. Very few EDGE Players are going to get the best of him; Super Star EDGE Players included. There really are no glaring weaknesses to his game; only nitpicks. Outside of Quenton Nelson and Trevor Lawrence coming out, I haven't graded a player higher than Joe Alt; a list that includes SaQuon Barkley, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Nick Bosa, Penei Sewell, JaMarr Chase, Ahmad Sauce Gardner and Kyle Hamilton... to name a few.

Thing is, T.J. Watt.... that guy?!

He truly is built different... and I mean BUILT... DIFFERENT.

Alt is going to have to have the game of his young career to beat him. As far as EDGE Players go, T.J. Watt is a literal cheat code. Whatever "patches" an Offense has to stop him?!..... they honestly don't work for there isn't any major limitation to T.J.s game at all. Adding in a rock solid running mate in Alex Highsmith also creates problems for Highsmith and Watt are two different types of pass rushers.

Wild card pick?! I wouldn't rule out Nick Herbig in this. There are clips from the Denver game where he frustrated All Pro Tackle Garrett Bolles. While Alt's height is excellent dealing with most EDGE threats, Nick Herbig isn't like most EDGE threats; height or not. Nick is basically what happens when you take some of T.J. Watt but decrease his height. Doesn't sound too difficult if looking at it from that angle... until one realizes how important leverage plays in Pass Protection; quite a bit.

Nick Herbig may in fact be a bigger key to the game than others are letting on. He is already having a very good sophomore campaign despite what the stat sheet says.

Joe Alt playing RT, I thought he came out of college to be a LT? It looks like he has never played RT, moving from TE to LT his freshman year at ND.

    I miss the SanDiego Chargers.

Watt going to school the kid making his 3rd start of his life at RT. :)

He was a Left Tackle indeed! Thing is, Los Angeles already has a tremendous Left Tackle by the name of RaShawn Slater. Now, you may have heard this name from me before but RaShawn was an All Pro.... as a Rookie. Granted, he has not reached those heights since then but that isnt entirely on him. That was mainly Brandon Staley's doing.

Now armed with a competent Coach in Jim Harbaugh, RaShawn is back among the elite; where he belongs. Jim upgraded a strength big time by adding in Alt. Now armed with two elite level bookend tackles, not only will this protect and safeguard Justin Herbert more, it will also allow the Chargers to vastly improve their ground game; both of which have happened to devastating effect thus far.

If there is a team best equipped to stop the likes of Kansas City.... Los Angeles just might be the answer. Their style of play along with Justin Herbert ensures that not only can the Chargers keep up with the Chiefs in scoring but also bleed out as much clock as possible to safeguard the lead. Granted, this doesn't mean that the Chargers will succeed 100% but they are the best counter to the Chiefs the league might have at the moment.

I'm going to go with Watt and Highsmith. I think that this guy is going to have a lot of trouble covering two people at the same time..... Especially when they're on opposite ends of the lineup.... ;p

I wouldn't be so sure about that, Alt is a beast himself. At any rate, this will be a real test for both of those guys
