    IDK

He has zero touchdowns in two games and that is on pace to match DJ’s total of zero for a whole season and @Brice@Brice wants to drive him back from Carolina

Plus he is averaging 5.4 yards per punt return which if you adjust for his height is almost average

    That would be pretty asinine

Pickett is a quitter who tucked tail and ran

QB play around the league has not been great overall. When that happens defenses and special teams have more of an impact. The Steelers biggest issue is offensive penalties stopping drives. Fix that, the offense improves, wins continue.

Problem for Pickett was not just about the first 2 start last season.....He had 24 starts and almost zero progression in year 1 and 2....Fields has only 2 starts with us

Our offense were btw worst in the first 2 games last season.I mean they had zero first down in the first 28 minutes vs 49ers and it was too late after that, they won vs Browns thank to 2 defensive TD,but the offense had only 9 first down

So I will give him that. He is mediocre as a PR and doing nothing as a WR 2 Recs for 13 yards in 2 games. Getting back to my point about the Steelers not knowing how to use him. Perhaps its a small sample and he improves. I just don't see it.

I keep hearing this comparison. Some fans completely miss the point that defenses are a lot different now. Two high safeties force offenses to throw underneath. Mahomes went from 80+ deep passes his first year starting to just 56 last year.
Roethlisberger's last two seasons pretty much the same. The same opportunities are just not there with a modern defense.

I’m saying the Steelers are no better off. Fields had more time to develop and still has the same issues with being lost when his first or second read isn’t open and taking sacks by holding the ball too long. I'm not just talking about last season. I'm talking about what we have seen of him so far as a Steeler. If you want to look at his entire career, which is the way that makes the most sense, he has a history of ugly turnovers and failing miserably in the fourth quarter. It is great that he has avoided the turnovers so far, but it takes more than two games to prove that three years of error-prone ball are suddenly behind him.

If the team needs a drive at the end of the game to win, who would you trust more? Pickett or Fields? If you said Pickett, your choice fits the available evidence. He has proven he can handle those situations effectively. If you chose Fields, you should look up his fourth-quarter statistics from last season.

The Bears are pissed at Williams now! What part of you are only as good as your offensive line.

I still think it was a mistake to give up DJ without having a replacement in mind; that said I can't help but be impressed with Donte Jackson's play.

As for Calvin Austin, In the Denver game I kept seeing Scotty Miller or Skowronek lined up on the outside running those Deep GO routes being completely unable to get separation from the DB, and couldn't help but think what Calvin Austin could have done. Not sure why Arthur Smith does not use Calvin Austin more on the outside to stretch the field. I remember all those RAINBOWS Calvin was catching in his first camp from Mason.

How often have we seen him get open in actual games? Not much. I thought he was a great pick when they took him, but so far, the guy has been a bust.

I see we have Nantz and Romo doing the TV for the game. I like it.

Might be interesting what Romo says about the play calling and how good Fields is handling the offense.

Good point. Say what you will about Pickett, but the guy definitely wasn't a choker. Of course if the defense gives you as many opportunities in the 4th quarter as they did for Pickett, he's bound to help them score a TD eventually

Only a few times per season do I have time to do an All 22 deep dive. Today was that kind of opportunity, and I focused on the offense with several rewinds of most plays:

    1. Fields made some good decisions and good downfield throws. However, I counted 6 times where he flat out missed seeing receivers come wide open for plays that would have moved the sticks. The worst was back to back plays in the 3rd quarter with 2nd & long and 3rd & long. On both occasions Freiermuth was breaking wide open in the middle of the field for first down yardage, both times right where Fields’ head was facing as he broke open. It’s great that he’s not making the killer mistakes, but he can’t keep leaving those easy MOF first downs on the table. That said….

    2. …it was painful to watch how infrequently any Steelers receiver not wearing 14 or 88 gets separation vs. man coverage. I didn’t want us to mortgage the franchise for Aiyuk, but we really needed to address the #2 receiver spot and it shows. That said….

    3. …it’s also tough to watch a lot of the route concepts on non-bootleg pass plays. We rarely have crossers who start on one side and fully cross the field. Those are man coverage beaters, especially when you have receivers cross in different directions at different depths. In the 4th quarter we finally ran a couple of combinations with a single crosser. Fields was a little bit behind on both throws (1 was completed), but correctly identified who to go to. There were also numerous incidences where all of our routes were long-developing vertical routes other than the running back as a check down. With the consistent 5 and 6 blitzes Denver was sending, with off man coverage, we needed to have more hots to help Fields.

    4. For those who said that Moore had his best game as a pro, I have to agree. I didn’t see him flat out miss a single in-line run block assignment (though he did have a comically bad whiff on a pull to the right). I only counted 1 really bad rep in pass protection. I had noted his improvement in run blocking last year, and it was great Sunday. I’m very interested in seeing how he holds up vs LA’s outside rushers.

    5. Frazier is as advertised. I feel extremely comfortable and confident in his play on all downs and distances. Fautanu quietly had a solid game as well. Daniels is a beast.

    6. Other than Jones’ epically bad series in the first half, the only truly poor line play that I saw was Anderson. He’s a backup for a reason, but he was really bad. It seemed like just about any run that was blown up when we had numbers was blown up by Anderson’s guy. Please get well soon Isaac! In the second half it was more than the O line could handle when Denver kept selling out to stop the run and we couldn’t make them pay with the pass.

    7. Of course we have to clean up the penalties. I think the penalties called against the offense were all legit, though the OPI on Jefferson was a close call. We can’t keep giving away our best offensive plays like that.

Thanks for this. My live impression was that it was Daniels getting beat, too, but I haven't watched the All-22.

I thought the OPI on Jefferson was weak. I agree with the announcers during the game. The defenders initiated the contact, so it shouldn't have been called.

He did get beat a bit as well, but was mostly solid. The run blitzes in the second half were a real problem and in some cases made the O linemen look worse than they were really playing. We didn’t make them pay for the constant blitzing.

    I mean.....

The McCaskey's and "Da Bears" fanbase essentially ran Justin Fields outta town as well! Wanna know the kicker?! It is..... interesting indeed.

What was happening to Justin Fields is now happening to Caleb Williams. Even worse?! Some people will likely say that a single Head Coaching change will fix all of this. For the most part, they could be right... minus one thing.

Confidence is a massive part of success in the NFL; doubly so for young players. For someone like Caleb, to be mentioned in the same breath as the likes of Lawrence, Luck and Peyton Manning Pre Draft?! I personally wouldn't have any doubt that his was through the roof. That said, the NFL is a different beast for a reason; every opposing player that is on the field with Caleb is essentially an All American; Caleb having learned that already. Getting back to confidence, Caleb's is getting battered and beaten at the moment. Never mind Caleb Williams' health at the end of the season... what will his confidence be by that point?! It is a fair question to ask given the fact that the Bears LITERALLY had the likes of Troy Fautanu, Olu Fashanu or even Amarius Mims but opted to go for Rome Odunze instead... and this is coming from a massive Rome Odunze supporter no less! Even worse?! They also had the likes of Dominick Puni, a Guard from Kansas, as opposed to Kiran Amegadjie. Look how Dominick has played for San Fran! Long story short?!

Drafting a QB has never, shall never and will never solve 100% of a teams problems by himself. Drafting a QB is all about how functional and stable the entire organization is; from Front Office, to the Coaches and then the Roster. Developing that QB is then about maximizing his talents as quickly as possible; either by great coaching or through the unique talents of the QB. Either or works... so long as the rest of the Franchise isn't a damn circus act. If a team effs up that QB in Year One, there isn't a guarantee that said QB can be saved in Year Two; no matter who the Head Coach is. Jim Harbaugh is a very extreme exception to the rule.

Well how come for example didn't P. Manning, and T. Aikman just off the top of my head not fail?? They were both beaten, and abused mercilessly their 1st years.
I believe P. Manning went 3-13, had many many turnovers, and was sacked many times.
    T. Aikman didn't even win a game His 1st year, and was sacked, and abused for 3 years ....hell I believe it wasn't until His 3 year before he had, or was even close to having more tds than turnovers. Yet they didn't lose their confidence. Why is it now that so many people believe it's not that the players aren't good, but it's just the coaching??? I believe the aforementioned Qbs had the same HCs through when they sucked, and until they pulled through it. Yet they both got extremely better, without losing confidence, or changing HCs.

Can you think of players not quite at that level? Hall of Famers are outliers. Expecting even the very, very good players to do the things they do is just asking for disappointment.
