Fields at least has some upside. With the line being as shaky as it is his running ability might be a huge asset. Wilson's injury may be a blessing in disguise. See what Fields can do now. If he fails, fall back on Russ to salvage another 9-8 season.

Tendons can be grown and strengthened with the right workout/training/supplements.

BUT - Rooney likes it! Let's run to the bank and extend MIKEY!!!!

Tom-Bert was a colossal failure and the 2020's are looking disastrous here mid 20's....

If Fields plays then put in the same offense that the Ravens run with Jackson. Let him take off and run 20 times, let him scramble around and dump off passes to Freiermuth or one of the running backs. It is extremely difficult for the defense to stay with a receiver once the play breaks down and also keep an eye on the QB who might run. Eventually a QB will get injured running that type of offense but keep it in until he does.

I think it will be a 9-8 type season again but I prefer to have a true rebuilding that being stuck in the middle again...Of course the best case scenario would be a 11-12 type season and compete with the best!

I went to two of the preseason games

He seldom looks downfield for open receivers

    That sucks

It's hard whey your OLINE sucks and 300 lb behemoths are ready to break your neck.

I am beginning to think that Russell cannot survive here in this current lineup, 2024. If all 5 OL starters were healthy, got the reps and had looked good in August, he would have been the guy. But he has one wheel.

Does not look good for Russ - and I was really bullish on him as a game manager being enough w a top 5 Defense. :dontknow:

It is no harder to pick your head up and look down field than it is to pick your head up and look for a 4 yard out

When Ben scrambled he was looking deep down field

Heck you almost couldn’t force him to check down

Fields goes right to dump pass

    Which sounds like dumb ass

I'm just saying that things might not be all that much better with Wilson in there, guess we'll see. With the way the O-line has played so far, I don't think anyone is going to have a whole lot of time to look downfield

You're spot on. Checkdowns will be even worse with Wilson.

Going back to his last year at Seattle, Russ would miss open reads and either checkdown or take sacks. Every now and then he will hit a perfectly thrown bomb that reminds you of who he was. That's why his stat line is a bit misleading.

People think Sean Payton held Wilson back. The reality is he Payton got a helluva lot more out of Russ than Hackett or Carroll did the last few years.

For that very reason I am not a fan at all. For us to win games with Fields we are going to have to simplify the reads and have alot of designed runs for him on top of our offensive line playing phenomenal and our running backs lighting it up not to mention fantastic play from our defense.

If he doesnt play by next week or at least the third im ready to say he's done.

Start Fields, the future starts now. If he doesnt want us to draft a Qb in round 1 let him prove his worth by playing well

Then the other team puts 8 men in the box like they did in Ben’s washed up years at the end

Difference Fields can move and he can throw down the field

Fields is capable of many wow plays but his problem is his number of wtf plays, so his consistency is a problem. But, the running back would be much better with Fields, since almost every RB has success with a mobile QB and Pickens would have more one on one matchup too
