Hard for a QB to keep up with that

They were 6th in PPG and top 10 in turnovers too...They were the reason why the steelers won 10 games last year despite a bottom 5 offense and at one point they had their worst PPG since the rookie season of Bradshaw in 1970!...Our offense were that bad before Rudolph become the starter!

Take away TJ, and the Steelers defense probably would've been just as bad as the Broncos. Even with TJ, they were a little better than average overall. My point is, just because Russ had way better stats than our guys doesn't mean the Steelers will have a better record this season. A fair amount of Russ' stats came during garbage time when the games were basically already lost for the Broncos

It's not a question of cutting Fields, both Russ and he are FA's after this year. A decision will have to be made, if Russ leads the team to that record and a PO win, how much are you willing to pay an aging QB and what will the guaranteed dollars be? If Fields steps in, plays some what decent for 8 to 10 games, and we even win a PO game, how much are you willing to pay? This is the quandry and mess we may have to deal with. Maybe they both suck up the joint and the decision is easy, but GB had to ake a decision on Jordan Love based on only a few games where he played really well. Now they had him for a few years, the first half of last season he was not good, turned it around and got a big payday. Do I think Fields or Russ will be that good, no, but this is the place we are at.

Why will Fields not be great here? Because he has not been great yet as a pro. his athlete ability is not a sign of NFL greatness, being a turnover machine is not greatness. if he turns it around he might be good, even fantastic, but more guys have been first round busts than NFL greats.

Oh, I agree. Their defense saved them (along with Rudolph), somebody had to, but they fold like a cheap suit in the games that really matter. TJ being out of the playoff game against the Bills certainly didn't help matters though

Point taken, but what was the Steelers percentage of giving up 1st downs on 3rd and longs? I don't know, but I bet it was one of the worst in the NFL, or at least it seemed that way

I'm thinking more like Roethlisberger 2021. Average <7 yards per att; 25ish TDs, <2% INTs. The plus is that Wilson may still have an arm and accuracy for the occasional deep ball.

And it was not really true that Wilson had most of his stats in garbage time last season

You seemed to be looking for reasons to not like what was a very good defense

I can't agree that the defense is very good. Maybe very good at times, but that's mainly because of TJ. Any defense that needs to rely on one guy to carry them can't be all that good. Check their record without him

This is why I have hope for a decent season as long as Wilson stays healthy: Broncos D bottom 5 last season. I'm pretty sure we were top 5 or damn close overall. Put Wilson on a team with that D and that 7-8 record would be a lot better. And as long as the injury bug stays away, IMO this could be one kick ass defense.

Ok we will have to disagree

I’ll stick to the fact they were 6th best last year and I think that is very good

The Broncos defense was pretty close to bottom of the barrel, but the Steelers D is overrated. Take away TJ, and they're almost as bad as the Broncos. If TJ misses significant time due to injury, it could be a 5 or 6 wins season. I think the Steelers offense will continue to struggle putting points up on the board, and sustaining drives. The O-line is still a very big question mark, and 36 year old Wilson's legs aren't built for running for his life. Sorry if I'm being pessimistic, but I'll remain that way until proven wrong

Yeah, but for how long? I have a bad feeling now that TJ is 30 that he'll be bitten by the injury bug just like his brother. Hope I'm wrong about that

Remember this, we have 11 games with Wilson's 35 year old legs.;)

That thread that stated maybe trade TJ made some sense. Steelers are not a serious contender. They could have got something pretty damn good for TJ now. Age 30 is a bad number for a lot of players in the NFL. Can you imagine the threads if Steelers did that and TJ went on to 2-3 stellar years and we got #1 draft pick flops?? Fun times here;)

Get back to me when the offense should go for it on 4th and short, and the defensive minded "genius" Tomlin decides to punt it instead, only to have their opponents offense march right up the field like the D isn't even there. I've seen this happen way too many times because Tomlin overestimates his defense, and has no faith in his offense
