Hes going to be Maddox 2.0, comeback player of the year followed by a quick fade. Will hopefully make way for the next franchise Qb. This is partly wishful thinking but i do honestly think wilson will have a good first year with us (pro bowl level) under tomlin and revamped o line. But he’s 36. That’ll be all she wrote after that.

If he is Tommy Maddox of 2002 with less turnovers, this is not that bad

I hope he will be much better this year that the majority think he will be...Need a good start or he will be benched for Fields after 3-4 games

Again.....all I can say is.....if our running game is as good as it was last year....which wasn't awesome, but it wasn't bad either. Russell will make teams pay for trying to play us the same way they did last year. Even if it's just as much as Mason did .....that will be a bonus for the team, and the D won't be worn out by the 3rd Quarter. He doesn't have to be great just don't turn the ball over, and take what they give him.

    Good point

For the running game, they were bad in the first half of the season but much better after that....I hope they can run the ball well for the entire season this time and Wilson can make some big play on play action!

Less than good start he will not be benched

A horrible start and at least 6 games maybe

It’s not like there is anyone behind him unless we go with Allen

From what im hearing from bronco fans was he was ok, not great, and not worth the 37 million. Hes apparently not the Russ from Seattle. Maybe its a little bit of Payton’s system that hamstrung him. If Tomlin and Smith can let him freelance a bit and do what he can still do best maybe he has a resurgent year: better than game manager. Maybe Kirk Cousins territory.

If he can be just top 20, it will be better that pretty much anything we've had since Ben retired. We will be a threat to win a playoff game or two if Russ can be close to an average NFL player this season. Let's hope he is.

The key word here is "probably", but we're not going to know that until the season unfolds. Russ might throw a few more TD's, and pass for more yardage than Pickett/Rudolph, but that doesn't necessarily equate to getting more wins

Russ didn’t throw a few more touchdowns

He threw twice as many as our 3 quarterbacks combined

Most of that was Canadas offense. Not KP.

True, and he was 7-8 as a starter for the Broncos last year. Not exactly awe inspiring. Pickett was 7-5, and Rudolph was 3-0 as starters for the Steelers last year respectively. Trubisky doesn't count :lolol:

My expectation of Russ is that he’ll be a mid-tier starting QB. This team can win a lot of games with a mid-tier QB.

I think blaming the Broncos record solely on Russell takes things a little out of context. The Broncos had a bad defense, which was also a contributing factor to their record.

Agreed - our collective QB play last year was just that bad. It doesn’t take much to beat 13 passing TDs in a season.

Defense and ground game will help take pressure off Wilson. He doesn’t have to come in here and throw 40 TDs.

Do you think maybe our defense had something to do with the record as well

And Wilson gets the pleasure of that same if not better defense this year

Otherwise you are sort of mixing apples and kumquats

I'll give you that much, but the Steelers defense wasn't exactly stellar itself. The Steelers defense was ranked #21, the Broncos #29

This is a good and realistic position. I think the real issue is the O line, can or will Russ buy into Smith's system, doing so will the TE's become a defacto "Nr 2" helping Pickens and the other Wr's to get open down the field. If the line gels and the running game gets going, the type of year you suggested Russ may have will likely happen.

The Broncos defense were just brutal in the first 5 games of the year last year when they were 1-4.....They gave up 70 points in Miami in one game :lolol::lolol::lolol:

Keep in mind part of that #21 is a function of the offense

If the O repeatedly goes 3 and out the D spends a lot of time on the field

Plus maybe not deliberately but you are cherry picking stats

That #21 is based on yards

Scroll across the columns to points allowed the most important stat and they were #6 considering the O that is excellent even exactly stellar
