I think a lot is being made about a singular terrible outing in a preseason game. Is it concerning? Sure. But we need to remember that he performed well last year as a rookie, so there is no reason to think that he won't perform well again. Is there technique to clean up? Yes. Is there an injury issue that may be causing some of these issues? Yes. Lets see how he rebounds from a tough outing and how he uses that performance to focus in on his craft and improve.

I agree. I can’t find the video. I looked. I will give him grace in that what they were asking him to do in some of the run blocks was pretty difficult. There two run plays that were blocked up really well by all the offensive lineman but Moore couldn’t get across the defensive lineman to seal him off and on both plays the guy made a tackle for loss or little to no gain by Najee.

this Zone blocking is a much more difficult scheme. If one guy messes up it throws off the whole play. They have to have great feet and strength. I think that’s why they are so high in both Jones and Fautanu because they have that over Moore. It’s a big reason why Cole struggled so much last year. He lacked the athleticism and power to often get the right angle and seal off guys to create the lane or cut back that is such a big part of the zone run game concept.

What the heck does "Healthy as I'm gonna get" mean?

The only thing I can infer from that is he probably needs surgery, but is going to tough it out for the year.

Broderick looks like a man playing hurt in an area critical for his success.

Let him sit for a bit he didn't forget how to play football

Jones didn't play good against the Texans either, it's not just a singular terrible outing.

If Jones plays terrible against Detroit, then he shouldn't be a starter in week one IMO.

If Troy F isn’t healthy he would have to start arm brace and all.

Yeah, doesn't sound very promising. With Herbig out for the year, and Fautanu being questionable, this year could end up being a disaster

why play him at all vs. DET? Rest him, let the coaches determine his health for week 1.

he is a professional at this point

If Fautanu was healthy then maybe they would rest Jones.

He also played RT some in college. So He has actually played just as much RT as LT . Everyone knew He was a Physical talent, but Physical talent only takes You so far in the NFL, but Im sure Like KFP college fans, Fields college fan, and so on they will make excuses why He's not doing well. I'm sure coaching, or something. Even though He won't be the 1st, or the 100 th Physically talented Tackle to come out of college, and not cut it.....if He doesn't. It's always someone else's fault.

Jones needs to be starting, his pre-season performance aside. He didn't look great in last year's pre-season, only to vastly out-perform that mark in the regular season. You don't draft a young kid with very little starting experience to sit him and hope he learns on the bench. He needs to be on the field, learning, and getting better. Otherwise, you need to be drafting more Day 1 ready prospects. We have no ties to Dan Moore after the season and we traded up in last year's draft to make Jones the LT of the future. Put him there, let him improve, and find out if he's the guy or if we need to swing again at the position. Simple as that.

His path reminds me a bit of Bud Dupree. Young, raw, talented. Took a couple years to get up to speed but eventually became an excellent player. Let's hope that Jones can do the same.

You can't just take only "safe" players in the first round. You might end up with a higher percentage of non-busts, but you completely miss out on guys like TJ Watt, Bud Dupree, and Ryan Shazier. Sometimes a "safe" pick is correct, but you can't win it all without superstars and those are a lot easier to draft than they are to acquire via FA (ridiculous $$$) and trade (compensation AND ridiculous $$$). I think its dumb to spend ALL your first round picks on high-risk/high-reward type guys, but if you believe someone has it in them to potentially be a superstar sometimes its just correct to take a swing at it and hope it works out.

I agree, but You are 100% correct....we have no ties to Moore, or not near as many as for Jones.....Yet He doesn't seem to be able to beat Moore out as of yet. ....., and I have went on record of saying teams start not always the beat guy because of Money, and draft capital, but Jones has all this, and still hasn't taken the job.

I didn't see anyone making excuses for him. He's injured right now. It's a logical thought process to imagine that is affecting his play. Especially considering his improvement from last year. If he is healthy and continues to decline, that opens up a different discussion.

The excuses part is in evidence with some saying it's because He should be on the Left, but the main excuses I mentioned were for Fields....like they did with KFP. I don't know what Jones is yet. It's too early in his career, but to say because he's out of position is an excuse. Since college up till now He's played both positions about equally.

Surgery would actually make sense. He got thrown around last week by a decent but unspectatular Rousseau. His pedigree says he’s better than that. And I think he is. I’m more ready to believe he really hurt bad thst he really stinks.

If he needs surgery he should get it. Being tough is great but he's not helping when he sucks.

If you RT is getting beat with speed in an actual game, Art Smith will put help on that side, run the play away from that side, or attack that side. Obviously Jones was not the focus of the offense during that scrimmage.
