He doesn't play in his natural position for some stupid reason but it's just brutal....3 sacks allowed in one quarter

I would like to see the amount of hits and hurries he has allowed in this game alone.

    Unacceptable.

This to me is more of an indictment on the coaching and their ability to develop these guys. I don’t think they have handled Jones well at all this year. The biggest indictment on our coaching staff was Dotson leaving and thriving elsewhere. Not sure why we didn’t bring the OL coach that was under Smith.

I've said this since Jones' Rookie Season. Hell, for me, all of this precedes Jones as a whole. The team had Kevin Dotson, a Pro Bowl Caliber Guard, in the wrong spot, during his second season onward. Look at what Dotson is now.

Jones may be failing because of coaching but that alone isn't the issue.

Josh Carney recently posted an article about this. I would definitely recommend reading it.

Jones should be looking better than this by now. Dotson thriving elsewhere definitely makes me suspect poor o line coaching here.

Dotson playing in the wrong spot doesn't excuse all the dumb penalties by him, we got two good guards good riddance.

So Dotson being paid as the highest Guard at the time of his signing by the Rams constitutes him being a dumb Guard?!

We also gonna just sweep the likes of how much influence Matt Canada's blocking schematics played in it as well?

He got tossed around like a ragdoll. If Jones is the Steelers best offensive lineman, they're going to be in a world of pain this season

Can anyone point to a recent player who developed into a really great player that wasn’t drafted high and just came to the table with bonafides?

I can find plenty with high pedigree who have deflated.

It’s the coaching staff. Offense and defense.

NOW, I believe the people who predict the basement in the division for us for the first time since the late 1980’s.

Kahn is doing wonders putting the bricks in place for a solid new foundation. But we have a bad architect and the GC can’t throw or read a defense.

Good for Dotson the Rams overpaid for him, Semaulo and Daniels aren't committing the dumb penalties like Dotson did .

If Dotson is dumb, how come he finished as a Top 10 Guard in the NFL last season?! :hmm:

I didn't say he was dumb, but he did have a habit of committing dumb penalties. You're acting like we lost the next DeCastro or Faneca in Dotson .

    Incorrect.

No one is saying he is a Future HOF. You are attempting to place statements into mine. My point is that, to be within the Top 10, you need to do a lot more good than bad. Now, did Dotson have penalties in 2023?! Yes; two total. Compare that to his final season in Pittsburgh; 12 total.

Matt Canada was very much more of a problem than others are willing to admit. Dotson didn't help his case much either but the OC is responsible for placing players into winnable situations; the Offensive Line included. Heading to Los Angeles with the likes of McVay was the best thing to ever happen to him.

However, the biggest takeaway in all of this resides within what the OP initially posted; Broderick seems to have regressed. I have already pointed out that much during the 1st Quarter of the game. My question was, how much lower will he regress?! I hope no lower than tonight... but I won't be surprised if he does.

He played a lot of RT last year in games that mattered and played A LOT better than he did tonight. Can't use "not his natural position" as an excuse. He's gotta be better than that.

I think that brace is affecting Jones play, he can't punch and getting bullied by smaller guys.

I thought of him. I guess I feel like they just found a good guy. IF he developed into a good starter I’ll have to grant them that.

James Connor seemed like one, then faded to mediocrity and then to find better success with another team which happens far too often for my liking.

Looking to see if Robert Spillane can keep ascending in Las Vegas and then the examples keep piling up.

It was a concerning night for sure, but I don't think its panic time for Jones. It is still preseason and its still RT. Jones didn't look too awesome in preseason last year and ended the year as possibly our best lineman. If he starts looking like he did tonight in games that matter, I might consider a regression or slump. Until then, just keep getting healthier and keep working to get better.

Except for pass protection, he is right back where he started from a year ago; still severely lacking in technique. The Colts game from last season against the likes of Kwity Paye and Samson Ekubaum to the playoff game against Gregory Rousseau, the finite details are still very much a problem.

You know he played RT for the majority of last season. About 10 or 11 games.
