I need to see the “working line” in combat then we’ll talk. Also, let’s give Fautanu time to adjust and looks like Broderick was dealing with an arm issue. Ya know, Omar is filling holes ASAP, it takes a few drafts.

Correct. I am more nervous if they sweep and win all games in preseason because of last year. The Steelers looked amazing in preseason and we all know how that turned out

What amazes me is you can bet on pre-season. How the hell can any bettor figure out a pre-season game? I think the Bills are +5 and the over/under is 36.5.

Yeah its kind of crazy really. Although there are people who will bet on anything, What time will the sunrise tomorrow :lolol:

No way to predict the outcome as you point out.

i want no injuries in this preseason. we already have a couple. i don't care about the win-loss part at all. i want to see guys not looking like it's too big for them and create good depth for us. it's a long season.

But...but.... that doesn't fit the "Roonies only care about being mediocre" narrative.

You are suggesting a long-term strategy, using examples based on a single season with the Lions and Chargers.
I think these sort of comparisons need to be with teams that have sustained success with the strategy, instead of hoping that it wasn't a one-year fluke.
(Before 2024, the Lions didn't have a playoff win in 32 years. The Chargers only have 1 win and 2 playoff appearances in the last 10 years.)

And it should be with more than one team doing well with the same strategy, so it isn't a single team with a healthy talented roster making it seem like the strategy is the difference-maker.

So you are in the camp of the player needs to adapt to the coach's strengths, not the coach adapting to the player's strengths? Gotcha.

I do not bet, simply because I can't win when betting games in my imagination, lol. But anyone betting a line on a pre-season game is either a super homer fanatic, or might have a serious problem.

It's a copy cat league, but I pretty much agree with your assessment. The Rams went for broke a few years ago, made it to a SB, but felt the key missing piece was the QB, made the trade for Stafford and it worked. Last year was supposed to be a rebuilding year, yet they made the playoffs with many young mid level draft picks (pretty young team). Having a stellar front office and coaching staff is the actual first step, then fielding and developing a team that buys in and performs the system.

This is Omar's second draft class, the first looks very promising, this years class we might have 2 to even 4 starters. That's the traditional Steeler way of building a team, with occasional FA acquisitions. Omar has shown he is willing to go beyond the traditional route, so far at his price. Was just listening to DK on YT, he mentioned 3 names that were mentioned months ago in the WR room, Aiyuk, Lamb, and even Tyrek Hill. That may have been in passing (the 'phins nave already done their thing with him), but I think it shows the narrative that the way things were is not going to be the way things are going forward.

There were some blurbs yesterday that the front office already has plans for Pickens, even if they get Aiyuk. Now that could be just talk to discourage dissention, but Omar has his hands all over this team.

Saying that one team that hasn't won a playoff game in over a generation does not disprove the importance of trench warfare. For that matter, the Detroit Lions have been in constant rebuilding since 2018; their Offensive Line being their biggest recreation project. However, one major aspect you are not accounting for is the right man for the job; Dan Campbell. Yes, the Jared Goff acquisition helped but he alone would have not been enough.

Since becoming the Lions Head Coach, he has posted a losing season only once; his first in Detroit. Since then?! The Lions have steadily improved since then. Some of it due to the likes of the Offensive Line while the other is due to Dan Campbell. Detroit has not had a fluke season under Campbell yet and I expect that to continue as the Lions compete for an NFC that is open for the taking.

The Philadelphia Eagles, the Green Bay Packers, the Baltimore Ravens, the Dallas Cowboys and even the Kansas City Chiefs (albeit a much lesser extent) have all proved the idea of winning through the trenches over the past seven seasons. For that matter, one could go back even further during the 2000s where Offensive Line play was some of the most influential the league has seen since the 1980s. You are correct; more than one team has proved this actually. Funnily enough, guess which team arguably proved this greatest during the 2010s?!

The Pittsburgh Steelers. Alejandro Villanueva, Ramon Foster, Maurkice Pouncey, Daivd DeCastro and Marcus Gilbert. Easily one of the best Offensive Lineups in the Franchises history. Players like AB and Lev Bell were key, no less Big Ben. Without those five however?! It is fair to say that the Steelers of the 2010s would have fared worse without their Offensive Line Unit.

    Incorrect.

I am stating that the best players need to be out there to increase the teams chances of winning. Russell Wilson's has been described as the "pole position" for a reason; very seldom has he ever worked under center in his career. Even worse, the times that which he did yielded less than desirable results. One does not have to look far; last season being the most recent and most prime example. Do I wish Russell well?! Of course. Do I expect him to be an upgrade over Kenny Pickett?! Absolutely.

.... Is this QB Battle still undecided?! Most definitely.

I keep hearing people say that Wilson is an upgrade over Pickett, but I'm not so sure about that. He might throw a few more TD's than Pickett, but I doubt if he wins any more games for them

Yes. Even more than QB. I never believed these 2 would be starting next season. Shoulda kept Mason.

Tomlin has always liked his reclamation Qb projects. From Vick, to Lynch, Haskins, Trubisky, Wilson and Fields. None have panned out yet. Hopefully Wilson gives us at least one good season.

As far as Qb’s drafted in Tomlins tenure - Zero, zilch positive results.

maybe 2025 will be different but i wont hold my breath.

I had a Dallas effing Cowboy co-worker point out that a bunch of Wilson’s TD’s last season were in garbage time and inflated the number. STATS lie, but your eye doesn’t.

I wasn’t in the room, but I got a hunch he wasn’t shown much love or respect. If they signed him again it would have been for the starting spot he earned (in my book) last season and he wouldn’t have left for another mediocre team as the back up.

Thinking Tomlin didn’t want to keep answer why his starter was looked over for so long. Took a gamble that Mason won’t make enough waves elsewhere to get peppered with media questions.

But if Mason does do well and these two bridge QBs don’t….? Wont even mention the other guy in Philly.

Well if the preseason games are any indication of what we have at the QB position we are indeed in world of hurt. Oline play aside Wilson in particular did not look very good. Fields actually brings more to the table at this point. Fields has the mobility and when your Oline sucks ( Broderick) such as it does Fields running is all ya got.

Russ is washed and has been for years. Fields has talent but lacks being able to read a field passing the ball. World of hurt is correct.
