    1. I know it's preseason and things are pretty vanilla, but Justin Fields, while decent, didn't show me anything that would lead me to believe that he could be our QB of the future

    2. BroJo and Fautanu both struggled.... Tomlin needs to give them more work in the positions they are projected for if he wants to see any cohesion

    3. Nate Herbig's snaps had me longing for Mason Cole....... Just get Frazier in there and stop playing around

    4. Pretty sure Quez Watkins blew his shot at being the 5th WR

    5. Demarvin Leal may just stick as a designated pass rushers on the edge

    6. I'm really feeling pretty good about our ilb rotation

    7. Coverage units looked fairly poor

    8. Calvin Austin just might make a bit of noise this yr

    9. Hope Fautanu and Benton's injuries are minor

    10. On to wk 2

It's pre-season week 1 with a bunch of new pieces trying to get figured out so I'm gonna do my best to have a bit of perspective.
Having said that, there were 2 teams out there and one looked prepared and ready. The other looked completely opposite. It's a trend and it's concerning.
Justin Fields, despite being a vet, looked confused and timid imo. Not a lot was compelling from the Steelers in this game. On to the next and hope for a better showing.

Did Justin Fields throw any passes that were in the middle of the field? Seems to me like everything was down the sideline.

You won’t see a lot of middle of the field passes during preseason from any team.

Maybe I am wrong, but Nate Herbig hasn't played the center position
too much over his career, The QB/ center exchange should be learned in peewee/midget football.
When they could execute the exchange, Justin Fields completed all but one of his passes in the 3 series he was in.
As far as OL, there is going to be a learning curve, young players are going to make mistakes. Let's hope
they learn from these mistakes and quickly. Poor/sloppy performance in all 3 facets of the game.

the first one for sure was not herbigs fault. didn't see a close up of the second fumble so i don't know who is to blame. fields didn't take a lot of under center snaps at ohio state and i'm not sure how many at chicago. he did however have a lot of fumbles, and sacks. let's not jump to conclusions about herbig yet.

game 1 in preseason is always fairly ugly. the texans are a good veteran team. these were not our starters late in this game keep in mind.

looked like another un prepared Tomlin led team, poor tackling , Dbs grabing, out of position, poor ball security.

Can’t figure out what’s more of a train wreck, that game or this post :lolol:

Allen is fine for a 3rd string QB.

I’d rather lose in preseason and have the team learn and develop from the experience than look like paper contenders in preseason and falter once the regular season starts.

Early for sure but so far I will stick by my belief that if Wilson goes down, which I'm expecting, we don't have a QB.

The Chicago Bears need a better QB evaluator.

Remember this is only preseason, is going to be pretty conservative play calling thruout, not give your competition any head starts.

Keep in mind the Texans played last week in the HOF game so they already had a little rust knocked off of them when they played the Bears.

Officially Fields was 5-6 but he was actually 6-6 passing because Tomlin never challenged the ball that was clearly caught in bounds.

Correct not only was the play sloppy so was the officiating. It is their preseason also.

Some things just carry on from year to year unfortunately.

Put it to rest man he isn't coming here. Van Johnson is the #2

They changed the line up. Really though Frazer should be starting. But I don't blame Herbig totally for the fumbles it take two to tangle.

As usual you hit on all the topics. I agree on Field with your take he is a project. I am looking forward to seeing Wilson start the next game. Kyle Allen looked pretty poised out there sans the throw to Austin III which sailed to far in the end zone which looked like it slipped out of his hand and was a wobbler.

The injuries: Benton was just an eye poke and Fautanu is just a minor knee. Good thing!

    LOL

not a single impact player was playing on D

    chill out.

on offense, that C / QB exchange was THE problem.

Wilson / Frazier will be fine.......

now - add Aiyuk - and spice it up a bit.

Fautanu will need some seasoning, that is for sure. but he has to get the reps and PLAY
