i don't think either qb is the answer. i think we will be competing for a playoff spot, if our receiving core is good. if not, all bets are off. but until we get a real answer at the qb spot in draft, the steelers will not be a real threat.

yes - he had one good game, a great comeback if I recall.
he is no answer to anything.

Back up - sure. I like Josh, in that role. another Tomlin talent eval blunder IMO. Should have not let him get out of the building.

Tomlin had NO PLAN with Rudolph and Dobbs.

We were flying aimlessly for years. Tomlin and Colbert was a disaster down the stretch.

all Tomlin did was enter each year - put the ball in Ben's hands and say "please be great"

    it was a disaster.

    and......here we are.

    Numbers don't lie:

    Pass Att 0 -10 yards (avg#/gm):

    Pickett: 12.5
    Fields: 12.5
    Wilson: 12.7

    Pass Att 11-19 yards (avg#/gm):

    Pickett: 5.8
    Fields: 4.2
    Wilson: 4.0

    What am I missing?

I read an article that actually made me see some potential in a very different way with Russell Wilson. https://twsn.net/2024/08/the-pittsburgh-steelers-will-trade-russell-wilson-to-the-arizona-cardinals

This article talks about trading Wilson to the Cardinals. In the crazy world we live in, might this actually make sense? Fields has been getting the vast majority of the reps. He has been doing well. Could Fields carry us thru 2024? A lot of the things written about the two are thinking that Fields has a chance to get the QB1 spot. If that is so, then it makes Wilson a great back up. A spot he probably will not want. So think about the trade value of Wilson going to someone like the Cardinals. He is worth some great draft capital and maybe some quality players too......especially if the Cardinals determine that they need him. We could see some immediate gains with players and some future gains from draft picks. At the worst, we could gain enough extra draft capital to move up into the top 10 by trading some of those future picks away without hamstringing ourselves.

Murray is clear cut number 1 QB with the cardinals...It will not happen and the cards are still in rebuilding so they need to see if Murray is their QB for the future

Not you missing anything. A lot of these people on here knew these numbers before we got both of them. But a lot on here impressed with Russ 26 tds last year and Fields is so athletic. Kmart blue light specials the Steelers got.

Remember KFP was perfect last year in preseason. People still drinking the kool-aid. This is really sad to those thinking Russ was going to cook.

Not because Pickett was perfect in preseason last year and been awful after that mean it will be the same for Fields

Still drinking the kool-aid. Fields has shown nothing in 3 full years. Once again, hopefully he is as good as he is athletic. He has many of the same bad traits as KFP.

2 words. Matt Canada. Those 2 words put a damper on anything done poorly in 2023. Was it because of the player, or the coach? At the least, the coach was a big part of it.

Here is the best example I can give. A former commander of mine in the military. Exceptionally smart guy and a fantastic leader. Any unit he commanded outperformed any other similar units, or anyone who commanded the same unit before or after him. A great leader can lead a team to do great things. They can exceed the ceiling that they were expected to reach.

Matt Canada was like the opposite of that kind of leadership. He dragged everyone down. They won some games despite him, not because of him. So I give a pass to pretty much everyone that was on his offense. They were playing with an eye patch on, while one leg is in a cast and they are on 8 foot stilts.......lol

Interestingly enough, the only guy I ever saw stand up for and talk good about Canada was .......KFP......What does that say about Kenny? Loyal, or weak mind?

I am willing to give Fields and Wilson a fair chance before I kick sand on them. Right now, they are doing nothing to make me think that they won't be an improvement over the last 5 years in our QB room. We shall see when it is a real game in week 1.

Honestly, this was the year to draft a qb. Perfect scenario to sit a yr or two to learn behind Russ. You stated yourself that if Fields ends up being starter that Russ will asked to be traded. This has the potential to blow up. But, in all fairness, this isnt my old Steelers team. They find ways to cause drama now. But, no losing seasons! Yay! $uck the playoffs! Please give me a participation trophy.

12 starts for 2 different teams last year with a record of 3-9. His stats are pretty well pathetic. Not sure I'd call what Dobbs has done anywhere in the NFL "success"

Very short and then on to his next backup role with his 9th team in 7 years.

Not sure where you're getting these numbers... the advanced passing stats show in 2023 that Fields had an intended air yards of 8.0, Pickett 7.0. In 2022 Fields 9.1 and Pickett 7.5. This would indicate that the average intended pass by Pickett was less down field than Fields. Actually Fields was 5th and 11th respectively in 2022 and 2023 among starters in intended air yards. Pickett 21 and 27.

The reason why your stats don't tell the same story as the advanced passing stats is because of pass attempts behind the LOS and pass attempts 20+. Fields averaged 28 attempts a game in 2023 and Pickett 27 attempts per game. You have 18 passes accounted for with Pickett and nearly 17 for Fields. That means that the remaining 10 passes come from passes behind the LOS and passes more than 20 yards downfield. The only way the advanced passing numbers match up with your stats is if Pickett threw many more passes behind the LOS and Fields threw more passes per game over 20+ yards in air.

So to answer your question... you're just missing the whole picture. You have part of it with the passes between 0-10 and the passes between 11-20 but missed out on the other 35% of passes thrown by each player.

he has 3 weeks to get into camp, get some reps and get comfortable. He is a seasoned vet. SHOULD be able to do that.....
