You basically have same problems with Fields as you did with KFP. Trouble going through progressions, no pocket presence . I will give you this, Fields can move running the ball better than KFP. Other than that they are just the same. One is in his 4 year, the other his 3 year.

They have a new S&C staff I think they probably had Wilson pushing a sled.

A Training Camp with Matt Canada; massive difference in comparison to Arthur Smith.

Regardless though, you'd be correct. While much of the blame is to be on Canada, Pickett didn't escape unscathed himself either.

Fields has more talent in his little pinky then Pickets entire body. He was a massive reach and should have been drafted in the 3rd where the other QBs started to go in that draft.

Fields may never become consistent enough to be a successful starter but come on man, he is very talented.

Kind of contradictive to say he might not be a successful starter, but is very talented? And I never said KFP was better, they both present same set of problems. Also lets add all the turnovers Fields had. Yeah way more successful.

I heard that it was part of the conditioning test. They have new conditioning staff changing things up. Also why they changed practice time during camp.

Fields is better than Pickett in some areas and worse in others. Both of them have issues that they need to improve on. Pickett's biggest issue was seeing the field imo. Fields biggest issue is ball security imo.

I think that ball security is an easier problem to fix than seeing the field. I also think that Fields is more mature mentally.

Time will tell who is better..... maybe. We may never really be able to tell which one is better. If Fields gets some play time and has a better year than Kenny did, I'm sure that a lot of that will be attributed to an improved offensive line and an offensive coordinator that is not Matt Canada.....lol

I'm not sure that it's working out that well so far. Our theoretical starting quarterback has been injured the entire time and the guy who should have been our number two wide receiver has a bum ankle now. I know that injuries happen and you can only do so much to prevent them. But it really sucks that two guys who should have been at the top of the pyramid are now walking around the pyramid waiting to heal.

Pickett's maturity/leadership was a HUGE LETDOWN for me. Coming into the league and even through his rookie year I considered that a strength. I have zero clue what happened in-between his rookie year and second year as well as playing during the second year. I'm actually dumbfounded on how someone could regress in this area. It's like he simply stopped caring at some point.

I am not against Wilson but I'll be happier if they go with Fields....He's very explosive and he's still young, if the steelers use Fields like Lamar Jackson early in his career he might surprise you...of course not as good as Lamar but still good.

The potential is there for Fields, just need good OC who plays to his strengths and hopefully Smith is the answer. The ceiling is higher with Fields, the floor is higher with Wilson...I prefer the ceiling and if Fields is our answer, he's going to be our QB of the future, which is not the case for Wilson because of his age

I agree with your assessment at the NFL level however they were vastly different if you review their college stats. Fields had much more success. Fields is a better scrambler. Closer to Lamar Jackson then Kenny Pickett but hey its too early to tell. I thought KFP was the real deal until he wasn't

I don't have faith in Fields as a long term answer at QB. Obviously there are exceptions, but usually you have a pretty good idea of what you have in a QB after 40 starts.

How many QB's, who's trajectory suggests a career as decent 2nd string type QB/journeyman, suddenly become awesome after 40 or so starts? That's a really rare phenomenon.

Obviously, they can look decent early, but never get any better than decent, or regress for whatever reason. However, when it comes to the greats, you can usually recognize the potential fairly early in their starting career. Of course, even some guys that tease greatness early, ultimately come back to earth well within 40 starts if they aren't truly exceptional.

Drew Brees is an example of this. He was mediocre starter for Chargers and became a top 5 QB with Saints.

OK, that's one. I said it's very rare, which is why I don't have much faith in a storybook ending.

Sort of, but not really. In career starts 28-42 (year 3), Brees was a pro bowl QB with an 11-4 record and a 104.8 QB rating. Fields has already had 3 seasons as a starter. Josh Allen also really blossomed in year 3 (also beginning with career start #28).

Directionally I agree with your point, but I think you should know who that QB is sooner than 40 starts. I can’t think offhand of anyone who became a franchise QB after 40+ starts going back to Rich Gannon.

The thing is that Fields was able to show his talent in some occasion, as he had over 1000 rushing yards in one year but his W-L record was very poor because the Bears had the worst defense in the league in 2022

Of course, 2 things he needs to improve... Consistency and being better in the 4th quarter, 2 crucial things but if Arthur Smith is able to play to the strength of Fields, who knows what can happen

Wilson and Trubisky should not be mentioned in the same sentence.

I did it, but I should not have. ;)

you / we ALL should have learned from last PRE SEASON you bank NOTHING on PRE SEASON.

KP looked like the 2nd coming of TB12.

I don't think that talking about how much a quarterback ran is a good way to showcase his skill as a quarterback.....lol

When a quarterback runs that much, the OC is either leaning too much on quarterback runs (a bad move for what is usually the highest paid player on your team) or the passing game sucks for some reason. To put that in proper perspective, in 2023, 12 running backs had a 1000 yard plus season.

I do agree with you about the areas where fields needs to improve. And I hope that the Steelers can finally start playing to the strength of their players rather than telling them to try harder on a crappy play design.

This is a asset when a QB can do both. The Chase Claypool experience did not help too for Fields and the bears.I could be 100% wrong on Fields but I believe with a OC he could be very good for us using his strengths...Not as good as Lamar in Baltimore but still very good

I agree with you, but I would rather the QB was 80-85 percent pass and 15ish percent run. Enough to force a defense to cover it and to be a part of the game plan, but not so much that your quarterback is out running the running backs. Running backs don't last very long in the league because they take a beating. You don't want your highest skill position to be taking that kind of a beating on 25% plus of the plays...... Not counting the sacks and knockdowns that a quarterback already faces when passing.
