What are the chance from 0 to 10 that Fields win the job as starter in week 1?

The chances are better that last week for me

    about fair.

Fields has still much better chance to win the job for week 1 that Rudolph or Pickett had back in 2022

You maybe right. I think Fields is on the same level as Rudolph or KP he doesn't excite me for some reason. that's just my opinion.

Russ isnt making it through the whole season so Fields will get playing time. Really don’t think either will be the answer though. Russ because of his age and decline and Fields because of his inconsistency and processing.

    it's a PICTURE

    come on man, come on.

He is a SEASONED VET - does not need that first preseason game.

Get him healthy. He can play the first half of 1st Q of games 2 and 3.

this Offense will take some time get its rhythm.

The mystery is why was Russ Wilson pushing a blocking sled? Was it part of camp workouts or him wanting to be one of the boys? If it was the former someone needs to be brought behind the woodshed. Why would you have a QB doing that? Could have cost him the season.

personally I don't believe its a battle. Wilson will be the starter.

Very few expected the steelers to sign Wilson, trading Pickett or trading for Fields in the offseason.Of course it was a surprise(even for the steelers) to have Wilson AND Fields but if it would been just one of the 2,it would still been a surprise by many even if the steelers were the favorite for Wilson and among the favorite for Fields. Many expected to have Rudolph and Pickett again

So,the steelers could surprise us again on that....I don't said that it will happen, but I don't agree that the chance that Fields is the starter is at 0 if Wilson is Healthy and ready.Adam Schefter is very credible and he was right in march when he said before the steelers trade for him that the steelers love Justin Fields.

If Fields continues to shine in preseason the way he has in camp, I don’t see how they don’t give him the job. Tomlin loves him and he would run Smiths system much better if they are looking to build the offense around him like Ravens do for Jackson.

Some analyst raised some eyebrows about a month back predicting Wilson as a surprise cut and received some backlash for it but one reason I can see why that could happen is if he isn’t starting. No proof but it was speculated he was told he would be the starter when Pickett was still here, if they did and then renegade on that, I could see Wilson being pissed enough to want out.

you don't see.....but soon you will see.

some of you guys......just amazing, really. there will be no "Wilson cut"

Fields is a place holder for now until Wilson is OK to get back under center.

    just calm down everyone.

We know that TOMLIN has NO IDEA how to run an offense. No one cares what or who Tomlin loves. He is on the hot seat. Fields is the backup this year......UNLESS he MUST be the starter

Wilson has so much more experience at reading defenses and making good decisions than fields that he will be the starter if healthy so 0.

if Fields has to come in i hope he can do a Rudolph and string together a few wins.

I'm optimistic about Wilson, He's proven himself. Fields has done nothing yet to get me excited.

So in the scenario I outlined they will make the same mistake they did with starting Trubisky. Cool cool.

If Fields shines he should start. Has so much more upside and long term possibilities.

People tend to forget that Fields wasn't just some talentless hack who came outta nowhere. @mac daddyo@mac daddyo could likely tell it better than I could. What I do know is that Justin Fields was a wire to wire five star recruit out of high school and the number one dual threat in the country. Goes to Georgia but doesn't win the job; Stetson Bennet of all people actually holding him off. Heads to Ohio State and wins the B1G Championship in 2019 and does very well despite a COVID-19 shortened year.

Yes, I concur with many here; his time in Chicago is definitely something he will want to forget; much of the same all of us. Despite this, much of that raw talent that made him a top 10 pick was still there at Chicago despite... literally everything that was happening in Chicago. For that matter, for two seasons, Fields had little to nothing to rely on. Fast forward to 2023 and he finally has a number one wideout in DJ Moore; a DJ Moore who is now one of the top earners among WR in the game. People tend to forget that his final year in Chicago was his best overall.

Now, with all of this said, do I believe that Justin Fields is going to win the job in Pittsburgh?! No... at least.. not for now. I do though envision a point in time in which Justin Fields continually improving and impressing to such an extent that Tomlin and Smith both will have no choice but to place him in... much like @Blast Furnace@Blast Furnace alluded to. However, the only way something like this happens isn't going to be just all on Fields as it equally will depend on Wilson's health.

Once again, this is training camp. KFP had a perfect passer rating in preseason last year. How did that work out?
